Yeah, I'm not a fan of how he is running it either. I pledged to sign up for champion, and several days later he still hadn't activated it for my account. I emailed him about it, and he didn't reply until after I sent him an email a few days later letting him know I cancelled the pledge. You would think that he would have the time to put a little bit of effort into this project considering he is making roughly $1800 a month from it.
Nope, but it doesn't provide any value to you until turn 4, and that is assuming you wasted turn 3 fetching for a basic. If you are wasting your third turn to fix your mana, the game is probably going very poorly for you.
I mostly just want enough artifacts to make Glassdust Hulk playable in some sort of artifact / flicker deck, and maybe Cranial Plating. If they print some other good payoff cards that would be cool too. Definitely looking forward to what Kaladesh has to offer.
On a more general note, at this point, I hope artifacts gets some help soon; as the rest of the cardpool has become much more streamlined in the last couple of years, the artifact section really hasn't kept up. I'm hoping that with Kaladesh being an artifact-heavy plane that we get some more support here.
This is part of why I play Bottle Gnomes (and I admit its a bit of a pet card for me). I really want to see a non parasitic minor artifact theme in cube. Even if that isn't likely to happen, at the very least we need some more good artifacts that aren't equipment.
The problem with comparing Temple Acolyte and Vampire Envoy to Bottle Gnomes is that Bottle Gnomes will be played in significantly more decks than those two because its colorless.
As for hexproof, there are a few good evasion "aura's" that are playable on their own, such as:
- Wingcrafter
- Hyena Umbra
- Ethereal Armor
- Nimbus Naiad
- Spectral Flight
- Hanweir Lancer
- Madcap Skills
- Kitesail
- Aqueous Forms (maybe)
And in addition to this, auras that pump their toughness remove their biggest weakness. I don't think you need to go too deep on evasion aura's to make this viable.
Why does it matter that somebody decides to include one pet card that isn't a common? The point of cube is to have fun after all, and if playing Worldnit enchances the cube experience, I see no problem with it.
I used to allow uncommons in my cube that have functional equivalents at common. A simple example of this (which is now irrelevant) is allowing Mistral Charger because we have Stormfront Pegasus. A more extreme example being allowing Calciderm because we have Blastoderm. I do think that without any clear cuttoff for what is / isn't allowed you are going to have the 'slippery slope' issue when determining what is legal. If I were you, I would just make a peasant cube, but make it play in a similar style to a pauper cube. This would mean not running most of the peasant staples, despite them technically being legal. Also, considering pauper cubes don't really have many strong 1 drops, I would be careful as to what 1 drops you add.
I agree with Humphrey. I don't get the hate against protection creatures. I don't think I will include the emissary after all, but I wouldn't exclude a card just because it has protection from a given color.
In my extremely limited experience, Sparkmage's Gambit has been solid, Corpse Churn and Clutch of Currents have been decent, and Ghoulcaller's Apprentice has been mediocre. I have yet to play with or against Valakut Predator, but it looks good on paper. Any thoughts?
I don't think that Lightning Bolt is that problematic when removing strictly worse cards. I don't run any burn spells in my cube that are strictly worse than Lightning Bolt; however, there are very few burn spells I would pick over Lightning Bolt. I think Rolling Thunder is the only one I would consider P1P1 over Bolt. Incinerate does come really close to being strictly worse than Lightning Bolt, as regeneration only matters in extreme corner cases.
