Yea im stoked she's real, its funny because i honestly think she's way stronger then any other creature in the set. This set is absolute garbage imo.
It's kinda funny that they switched to this 2 set format because they felt like they could never really hit a 3 set block out of the park and the result is that the first 2 set block is suffering as a result of the sudden development change.
Hopefully the set is opened enough that Drana ends up being bulk-mythic cheap.
Hangarback Walker is a good card, but it is awful in this deck. It's a one time use creature in this deck (it's a 0/0 when Marchesa reanimates it), so you get some tokens out of it once and that's it. It's not even close to being worthy of inclusion here.
If you want to make Marton Stromgald math more silly, there's the fixed non-legendary version of Marton: Hero of Oxid Ridge. He'd be a better choice than Kolaghan because he pumps everyone but himself.
I was at my LGS looking for a Marton Stromgald (finally got one!) and I mentioned to the guy there that I was making a Marchesa deck and he said he had one himself. He mentioned a creature that I hadn't heard of before, Summoner's Egg, which will let you cheat in uncounterable creatures when coupled with a sac outlet. It's not as awesome as Sneak Attack, but it's also not as expensive.
I'm excited to play with a Jokulhaups, I've never had one before. Pucatrade helped a lot to build this deck. I don't have Mikaeus just yet, but he's in the mail. I got Kiki, Sakashima, and Scourge all that way. I also upgraded the manabase a lot. I previously had loads of CIPT lands, but now I have the Odyssey filters, Tainted lands, and Reflecting Pool. It's a shame that I'm still missing Marton Stromgald, but he's below the value where people want to send off a single card on there.
I had noticed that the Baboons are mandatory and that I might have to blow up my own land sometimes. I feel like it might not be too hard to play around it, if I'm careful when I play it or kill it. As long as I don't have Mikaeus out, I could only have to destroy one of my lands and then kill it permanently.
I think for now I do want to try sac'ing Scuttling Doom for 6 to the face and filling the board with the tokens from Wurmcoil. It's surely christmasland, but with Mikaeus, Marchesa, and Flayer, Scuttling Doom Engine does 25 damage divided up as 6, 7, 6, 6.
I don't have a Preyseizer Dragon, only the Scourge. I feel like High Market and Phyrexian Tower might be wiser choices to get before it, though? Or maybe put off the Tower and get Preyseizer and some pain lands?
I know that some people don't like Jokulhaups, and I'd likely swap it out for something else in a less competitive game. However, a few stores near me run an EDH tournament at the end of the month and I think Jokulhaups is a solid "game over, I win" spell for that atmosphere. Ravenous Baboons is in there to deal with offensive lands like Gaea's Cradle, Cabal Coffers, Maze of Ith, etc. If someone's crapping out 30 mana from one land or they're hiding behind their pillowfort, they have no reason to complain when that land gets blown up.
I put High Market and Phyrexian Tower on my want list, so I'm at the mercy of someone deciding to ship them to me. At least the list of people who want those two is much shorter than the list of people who want Steam Vents. A Miren, the Moaning Well is on it's way now and also a Phyrexian Arena.
Do Scuttling Doom Engine and Wurmcoil Engine seem like they'll function as strong beaters late?
This is what I'm building right now. I've assembled most of it via pucatrade, and now I'm down to "what do I need to add next". I know I need a Steam Vents but that would take forever on pucatrade, so I'll just buy one before too long. Should my next two acquisitions be something like Phyrexian Tower and Phyrexian Altar? Any suggestions on the manabase?
