Playing Child of Alara vs. Bruna and Oona. This particular Oona deck is notorious for having a small number of combos and a large number of tutors.
I've got Child in play, but no sac outlet. Bruna has two Totem Armor enchantments plus Eldrazi Conscription. I have Glacial Chasm to protect myself from Bruna and the 20+ tokens Oona has generated. Bruna swings at me, I sacrifice Child and Heliod to the annihilator and sweep the board of everything, but not before Oona generates infinite mana and exiles our decks. My turn comes around, during my upkeep I put Child on top of my deck with Volrath's Stronghold, re-cast her, pump her with Xenagos, and smack the Oona player for 12 general damage.
I pass to Bruna, who has no means to save himself, and loses. Oona untaps, drops grand Architect, and passes. My untap, I use Volrath's Stronghold to put Heliod on top of my empty library. I'm out of creatures in my graveyard and have no sac outlets, so this is my last turn. Fortunately, with Xenagos+Child, I can get 9 general damage through the lone blocker, to reach lethal general damage on the guy with more life than social niceties (he's kind of a jerk).
I then got stupid and greedy, casting Domineering Will to try to steal his board for an epic free swing but he Fork'd it his resolved first, targeting the Genesis Hydra, Hornet Queen, and 1 hornet token. I just targeted the same creatures when mine resolved
FYI, you have to pick targets when you cast the spell, long before your opponent even responded with Fork
Playing Karn, drop out Unwinding Clock, Clock of Omens, and Pyxis of Pandemonium. Shaving off something like 9 cards from everyone's deck per turn. In the end, I cracked Pyxis open to create the most confusing boardstate, and the two people still in the game were fighting over an ever-growing stack trying to figure out how to win during the end step.
Fortunately, my opponent had infinite mana and infinite life loss pointed at me... but I had infinite mana, infinite life gain, and infinite damage. And since he was the active player, he had to stop his infinite first.
Actually, I think you just... died. Spiritualize is a triggered ability, which means it triggers when taking the damage. You die with all the triggers on the stack. It would be different if it gave lifelink, though, as the latter is a static ability.
If that is indeed the case, that'd be painful...still, I had Dramatic Rescue on hand, I'd have been fine anyway, but it's good to know.
Stuff like this is why I'm not a judge.
theflow is correct. You don't gain the life from Spiritualize until after the trigger resolves, and you would have been dead long before then if that's what you were relying on to live. Picking up half your deck with Ink-Treader in play should have given you plenty of options for answers, though, so I wouldn't sweat it too much, and just try to remember for next time..
Playing Gaddock Teeg today against a balls-to-the-wall Oona combo deck (plus Azusa and Thraximundar).
T1: Land
T2: Land, Teeg (Oona played Mana Vault T1, so hoping to slow him down)
T3: Land, Rule of Law (cutting Oona's speed in half if not more)
T4: Land, Loxodon Gatekeeper (Oona gets infinite colorless T4, but not enough colored mana to win)
T5: Land, Linvala, great big middle finger at Oona and make great friends with both other players.
Later I exiled Oona's Blightsteel (in response to Thrax trying to clone it with Mizzium Transreliquat), Azusa and I worked together to get rid of Oona's infinite mana, and I shut down Oona's Staff of Domination with Damping Matrix. At least five times during the game, Oona was ready to combo win on his next turn, and I dropped a card that just said "no". Three of us were laughing our heads off. (Well, Thrax was sad about losing all of his artifacts to Kataki).
Eventually Oona tutored up Necropotence and Laboratory Maniac, exiled his deck and cast Kozilek for the win, but I made him work for that victory, and the game managed to go for over an hour, where it would have otherwise been over in minutes.
I went from 0 creatures, to Wort and 2 goblin warrior tokens, to 8 tokens, to 32 tokens, to 32 goblins and 20 snakes, to 288 goblins and 180 snakes.
Parallel Evolution is Dee You Ehm DUMB in Wort. Even better, my opponents were playing Ghave and Purphoros token decks, but neither had any tokens in play at the time.
Valkyrie targets Titan.
Sacrifice Titan to Tower (BBB floating), bringing back Titan with Valkyrie's delayed trigger and a cc < 3 permanent with Titan's trigger (I was using Strip Mine, but there are a lot of potentials here). Untap Valkyrie.
Activate Temple (BB floating) targeting Tower, triggering Rings. Pay for the Rings trigger and target Temple (no mana floating).
Board state has been returned to the beginning, plus whatever Sun Titan recurred.
Of course, you can do the same thing with any creature besides Sun Titan, and get their ETB/LTB triggers. If the creature ETB or LTB and generates mana, you get infinite mana. If the creature generates 2 mana, you can replace Phyrexian Tower+Deserted Temple with Ashnod's Altar. If the creature generates 3 mana, you can replace Tower+Temple with Phyrexian Altar. If the creature generates 4+ mana, you can replace Tower+Temple with any sac outlet.
If you remove the Mana Flare (or similar "doubling" effect), it's not infinite, but it effectively costs to graveyard-blink a creature.
Playing my new Melek storm combo deck vs. Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius and Rakdos, Lord of Riots.
I've been pretty much mana flooded all game, but Niv and Rakdos have been preoccupied with each other (though Niv and I have worked together to keep Rakdos himself off the field; Rakdos only untapped once). Oona's Grace let me basically loot away some of those extra lands, though, so it wasn't all downside.
Niv ends up killing Rakdos. I'm at 20, and Rakdos retaliates against Niv before his death by knocking Niv down to 7. Niv will be able to deal 20+ damage to me once he untaps, so I have a single turn to live. My hand is Force of Will, Haze of Rage, and Ignite Memories. I have 14 mana, including a Riptide Laboratory.
I cast Haze of Rage with buyback (storm=1, 10 mana open), then I re-cast it without buyback (storm=2, 8 mana open). I cast Ignite Memories from my hand (3 mana open, including a blue mana and Riptide Laboratory).
Niv-Mizzet tries to counter one of my Ignite Memories copies, and I respond by bouncing Melek with Riptide Laboratory, then pitching him to Force of Will. Niv-Mizzet has Leyline of Anticipation in play, so he then tries dumping his most expensive cards onto the battlefield to avoid the Ignite Memories damage.
The first IM resolves, dealing 2 damage.
The second IM resolves, dealing 2 damage.
At this point, Niv reveals to me that there's one card in his hand that costs 4, and I infer that it's the only thing he can reveal that will win me the game.
The final IM resolves, revealing... Niv's 4-drop.
Pure. Blind. Luck.
(What makes the story even better is that in a previous 1v1 game against the same Niv player, I was in a similar position of having a single turn to win. I hit storm=5 and cast Ignite Memories off the top of my deck with Melek in play, dealing 21 damage when Niv was at 20, and neatly avoiding ever revealing the land that was in his hand.)
Slobad's relevant board is Slobad and Pithing Needle (naming Jaya; sadface). Slobad has also had Mind's Eye for several turns along with Reliquary Tower, and he's got a huge grip of cards (12). Slobad is also shutting down the counterspells from the two blue players with Defense Grid copied by Sculpting Steel.
Lazav's relevant board is Lazav (copying Magus of the Future) and Solemn Simulacrum. Lazav swings at Slobad for 2 damage, the first damage Slobad has taken all game.
I play and equip the second Sword, making Jaya a 6/6 pro red, white, and blue. I swing at Slobad.
12 general damage from Jaya.
4 damage from Fire.
24 damage from War.
40 damage total, from swinging what by all rights ought to be a vanilla 2/2 thanks to Pithing Needle.
Made my freaking night.
Lazav ended up hitting Living Death, because Lazav and Niv were both afraid of Jaya by that point; while most of the 40 came from Slobad having a huge hand, Jaya could use her abilities again, and Inferno every turn cycle until someone died. Niv and Lazav both had a number of creatures in their 'yard at the time, while I had none. So, I took a beating. But that one combat phase was glorious.
Game I had tonight, me playing Ghave vs. Mayael and Darien.
My turn 4 (I played first), Darien was the only player with any board presence. I dropped Garruk Wildspeaker and created a Beast token to block with; My hand was full of 5 and 6-drops, and I didn't have a 5th land -- I needed Garruk to live to my next turn, badly (one of my 5-drops was Mirari's Wake, so I would only need him desperately once).
Darien swings at me with Ballyrush Banneret, a Kithkin Soldier token, and creates a second Kithkin Soldier with Militia's Pride, also swinging at me. He's also got some anthem effect in play, but none of the creatures are pointed at Garruk. I trade my beast with his Banneret and breathe a sigh of relief.
So:
T5 Mirari's Wake
T6 Doubling Season, untap two lands with Garruk (Darien held back, afraid Mayael might have haste), Vraska the Unseen, ultimate Vraska for 6 Assassin tokens
T7 Finally hit my 5th land, start running away with the game.
Ghave came out at some point along with Blood Artist. Blood Artist did most of the killing and Ghave ended up somewhere around 30/30. Mayael eventually flipped into Terastodon, destroying Mirari's Wake and Doubling Season, but by then the damage was done. Mayael was at 25, Darien was at 6, I was at 50+, and I had more than plenty Saprolings and mana by that point. Near the end, I hit Garruk's ultimate and Mayael hit Fog to slow me down... but Garruk still had 5 Loyalty, so I just decided to wait a turn cycle.
I never bothered to swing with the Assassins once, and none of them died the whole game.
T1: Overgrown Tomb
T2: Forest, Demonic Tutor (get Fertilid)
T3: Forest, Fertilid
T4: Swamp (EOT use up Fertilid for 2x Plains)
T5: Phyrexian Tower, Krosan Grip targeting a Mimic Vat (EOT Worldly Tutor for Academy Rector)
T6: Academy Rector, sacrifice Academy Rector to Phyrexian Tower (:symb::symb: floating), put Mirari's Wake into play, tap Overgrown Tomb (BBBB floating), cast Geralf's Messenger (:symb: floating), tap Forest (BGG), cast Scavenging Ooze (:symg:), exile Mimic Vat from the graveyard.
> Never plays another land
> Wins off of non-infinite Ghave+Messenger
Playing Maelstrom Wanderer against Karador, Jaya Ballard, and Azusa. I've hit Azusa for 16 general damage.
Azusa casts Avenger of Zendikar then plays a land, hoping to block the incoming Maelstrom Wanderer (enchanted with Bear Umbra), then passes.
EOT, I activate Erratic Portal to bounce Eternal Witness. At my upkeep, I turn Vesuvan Shapeshifter (currently a Woodfall Primus) face down. I unmorph Shapeshifter, copying Jaya Ballard, preventing her from Pyroblasting Wanderer.
I cast E.Wit, getting Sun Quan back from my graveyard, and cast him. I swing Maelstrom Wanderer at the Azusa player, and E.Wit at Jaya's Tibalt (2 Loyalty). Untap my lands thanks to Bear Umbra.
Before blockers, Karador casts Victim of Night targeting Sun Quan, in order to let Azusa block Wanderer. Still in Declare Attackers step, I cast Long-Term Plans searching for Cyclonic Rift. I activate Sensei's Top to put Rift on the top of the deck, then draw Rift with Sensei's Top. Still during Declare Attackers, I overload Rift to clear away Azusa's blockers and get there with Wanderer.
Yup. RUG just cast an instant-speed Diabolic Tutor for 3U.
(My next turn ends up the last turn of a timed game, so I end up using E.Wit again for Worldly Tutor to get Hellkite Charger to get infinite attack phases and take out Karador and Jaya on the very last turn of the game.)
T1: Murmuring Bosk
T2: Overgrown Tomb
T3: Reflecting Pool, Geralf's Messenger -- still on Isle of Vesuva, target Vela for 4 lifeloss
T3,Vela: Declaration of Naught naming Ghave
T4: Land, Parallel Lives -- my Messengers are still the only creatures on the board, swing at Vela for 6
T4,Vela: Vela rolls chaos, destroying my Messengers. Messenger undies and I get 2 tokens, target Vela for 6 lifeloss
T5: Land, Doubling Season -- my Messengers are still the only creatures in play, swing at Vela for 10
T5,Sol'Kanar: Mana Flare, Roll chaos, destroying my Messengers
T5,Vela: Silent-Blade Oni, copied by Isle of Vesuva
T6: Duplicant, copied x4, exiling the Onis
T6,Sol'Kanar: Roll chaos, destroying my Duplicants

etc. We didn't get away from Isle of Vesuva until T10 or thereabouts, by which point Sol'Kanar had Spellshock and Impatience. I rolled to Goldmeadow (Landfall: make three 0/1 white Goats, Chaos: Make a 0/1 white Goat), hit Impatience and Declaration of Naught with Return to Dust, then played some fetchlands and Gavony Township, and started making huge numbers of huge goats.
Sol'Kanar and Vela were served up defeat at the hooves of an army of goats from Gavony.
These are the cards I used to cast Rude Awakening five times in a single turn last night. Along with the other spells I cast off the mana I kept untapping, I brought my storm count up to 17. Then I cast my hidden card off Mosswort Bridge - Mind's Desire. And thanks to the ramp I'd been doing earlier that game, I only hit 5 lands off of it. Yeah, that was fun
