THREE THINGS.
1)IcariiFA, I have fixed your score.
2)I am sorry about the erratic posting times. There have been some complications in my personal life that I do not wish to discuss. I attempt to post around 10:00pm EST the night before. From now on I will check the previous thread, the next morning as well, and if someone posted before lets say 11, I will edit them in.
3)I know I'm FAR from the best host of this thread, but if you think you can do a better job, by all means contact me or stoner about joining the host crew. We will work you into the schedule.
1) Thank you.
2) That sounds fine. I haven't participated in DCC in a while and was trying to figure out what the "goal" for the next day cut off was, and it made it harder to plan/keep up with entries. I just couldn't tell what time was being aimed for. If the goal is to have the thread up by sometime after 10pm EST and anything posted after that is just a lucky break I personally don't have a problem with that.
3) I realize I put you on blast in way by reqouting myself. I'm sorry that I was overly blunt, I tend to be picky about punctuality. I could of pmed you first. That said, the DCC discussion thread needs to be paid attention to and I did originally quote your scoreboard there which would give you a notification. When you went ahead and posted the next day without saying anything or fixing the issue, I felt I/this thread was being ignored.
I have no interest in running the DCC. Just in the rules being clear and communication being likewise clear.
Dammit i was in the middle of posting! Why is the 9th early?

Oh well. But is there set time when this is supposed to start the next day? It seems the start time has been moving up each day since the beginning of the month.
Today's scoring is incorrect. acheron_xl and I both received 5 votes, which means we tied and both should get 6 points today. There should be no 7/5 split between us.
That's fine and all, I just want some consistency. I really appreciate you taking the time to do it, but I think it would be great if there was an official time that it was "ok" to start posting the thread. I've only been playing for the past couple months, so I'd gotten used to the idea of having up until about noon my time to post, so it's just been a bit of jeer with the turn over the past week.
Can we please set a time for when it's ok to start the thread each day? It's been getting earlier and earlier, and I don't like missing days over it. Last one wasn't even up for a full day.
I must be an oddity, then. I rate cards about 70% on playability/spikeness, and try as much as possible not to let something like difficulty of implementation/wordiness/non-intuitiveness affect my votes.
Maybe you are, and that's fine.
An important thing to consider as a designer is mass appeal. The demographic that is interested in playability/spike factors is but one group of many among magic players, and it isn't even the largest. Think of it in terms of a marketing campaign trying to sell a new product and the card's rule text as slogans/ad space. Are most people going to buy into your idea if they don't get your slogan/ad on the first read? No, they're not. If they have to figure it out, it makes them feel stupid, and you can bet people don't like to feel stupid. They'll just move on. The same thing happens with cards. That's why New World Order and the like came to be in the first place: to increase mass appeal by lowering complexity at entry level magic (commons.) Magic popularity has grown instead of declined every year since.
But here is the kicker: You can make a card the is extremely playable/spike oriented and STILL make it intuitive and brief. Often the best designs appeal to many audiences, not just one. In a competition like this it makes sense to design cards that cover many demographics since, despite us as group being rather niche as designers, we all have certain bias to different demographics.
I've noticed that usually when I win the day/get many votes, my card has a very short effect. Interesting.
Yup. Grokability is something everyone on this board naturally leans toward, because a card you have to read more than once to understand is less like to be considered by a person in the first place. Short and sweet typically make things grokable. I know for me if I have to read your card more than once to get what it's trying to do, chances are slim I'm voting for it.
I tend to vote pretty highly based on creativity and elegance. Is it a card that intersects between new territory and I get all I need to know out of one read? That's what I like to vote for. I don't vote based on standings, but I admit, certain people design more to my standards than others, and I tend to vote for those people. You can tell a lot about what people prioritize based on their own designs strengths and weaknesses over the month.
A lot of my entries here are also spontaneous. I may take the time today and tomorrow to actually plan some entries in advanced. Knock Flatty off the throne.
1) Thank you.

Winner of the day gets +2 added to their votes, correct? If so, I should have +7 for today.

Who? Haha
I don't threaten idly. You're gonna have to fight for that crown this month.
