I've got to say, we've had some fun rounds. I thought that looking up all the round threads and copy/pasting them and looking back through the discussion thread to find the winners would be somewhat awful. But it was actually 100% delightful. Hooray for fun games.
I added the Feb '12 winner and fixed a spoiler tag, but mostly I just wanted to go back and look at the side boob from my Dec '09 winning render.
Best MCCs have an ongoing theme (all bears, numbers, rarities, stories) that keep you guessing at what the next round will be. But yes, crisp restrictions are also good, and you have to hit the sweet spot with bonus points, which I think is generally making it hard enough that a couple of people will skip one of the restrictions, but that there are printable designs that conform to all of them. Like how DARKING would always put up an existing card that fills the restrictions as his placeholder.
Woa, thanks! Good thing I got an avatar now, so people can remember me!
I guess those little nifty trophies under the name don't get handed out anymore?
Correct, but you will be qualified for the Winter Custom Card Pro Tour, which should occur next month. Winner of that gets a trophy. More details in the Pro Tour sticky thread.
Yay
I mean my avatar is a pirate so I feel like I had an unfair advantage here.
That was the most successful Homelands throwback in recent memory.
Good run to all my competitors, especially Oculus, as agreed upon I will make a slightly worse card than yours in the finals of the next floating-eyeball-themed MCC.
Thanks judges!
What I thought contests were designed to give me the most points possible
That's an interesting perspective, although I'm not sure if the "name recognition" factor is exactly the same issue as the randomness due to pairings. In my example above, I think Player D (the one who would get cut due to pairings despite having a better card than A and B) could be a first-time participant just as well as a 5-year veteran.
There are a number of other contests that work purely on pairing and elimination (like Battle Factory or Creator's Clash), so I suppose it isn't too much of a problem, just a slightly different way to do it. If we perceive some benefit from it, it's fine as is.

Anyway these could be used for a much worse sequel MCC, like how Never Say Never Again was just Thunderball again from a different studio
