The big dudes in the background remind me of the Nature God in Hellboy 2.
Looking forward to learning more about this set as I'm pretty much over Zendikar. (earlier than usual)
edit: The Lovecraftian thing is intriguing. Ohhhhh that would be sooooo cool if they actually go in that direction. (Not explicitly HPL, obv, but highly reminscent.) = Joygasm.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to go with Eldrazi. This pic makes it seem that Eldrazi are just a name given to a bunch of Horror/Golem looking creatures, rather than an actual race.
LOL I'm having bad 80's movie flashbacks from this image "Krull" anyone? All they need now is that weird throwing star thing from the movie and the pic would be complete lol.

The fact that they don't look like a uniformed race gives more credence to the speculation that they the MTG version of Lovecraft's Old Ones. I like that they all don't have the same look.
Lovecraftian horrors and polyhedrons make sense. If anyone's ever read HPL's "At the Mountains of Madness," they'd recognize the blasphemous geometries in the structures of the Elder's city.
Also, much exploring, dungeon-delving, ancient writings of ultra-powerful Elder races, and freakish ooze-horrors in that short story. Though, I was unimpressed by the writing.
I love the pic. And the Eldrazi really do have that whole Lovecraftian "cosmic horror" feel to them.
Speculation time!
My guess is that, like Sorin and Nissa, that they're black-aligned. This is not to say that they share the interests of either planeswalker.
Whereas we have a strong sense of community and interconnectedness when it comes to the mortal races of Zendikar (what with all the allies, adventurers, and the whole sword and sorcery motif), I'd imagine that the Eldrazi are quite the opposite: immensely powerful, self-serving beings who see those beneath them as miserable insects at best.
Then it becomes a question of who really owns this world. It's clear that the Eldrazi are the progenitors (or at least the inheritors) of the ancient civilization that once covered Zendikar. Whatever their plans are, they've probably give little thought to Zendikar's mortal inhabitants.
So, has anybody here ever actually SEEN Lovecraft's creatures?
I'm sorry, but only the one in the middle looks vaguely Lovecraftian. The others? Pokeymanz or Yugiohz.
The leftand middle attachment are real Lovecraftian things. The ones you describe as being from the world of Arkham, Innsmouth and Dunwich look more like the right picture.
Damn poseurs.

[I was permabanned and all I got to show for it was .... well, nothing.]
My Lovecraft knowledge is limited to the boardgame Arkham Horror. Seems to be enough to know that the dude on the right does not resemble anything from the mythos.
Amazing artwork! Also, good to know that Rise of the Eldrazi is the real name. Those Eldrazi do vaguely remind me of Pokemon, specifically the Regi line.

Horrors are supposed to look horrible aren't they?
