Now that the TOC and TOU eliminations are over, we have our winners! Congratulations to each of the final four of the TOC and the TOU. With that, the tournaments have officially come to a close… but that doesn’t prevent us from having some “Bonus Matches” to find out who the best of the best really are.
This set of Bonus Matches wants to find out: If we pit the finalists of the TOC and TOU against each other, who would win?
Team "Justice For All" - Gideon Jura and Captain America
vs.
Team "Disney Villains" - Sorcerer Jafar and Maleficent
The members of both teams are transported to a different dimension with all information about their opponents “uploaded” into their minds. They have 30 minutes to prepare and talk to each other (they don’t know anything about each other as teammates, save for any experience from previous matches of this same tournament), and will also have full access to any technology, magic, weaponry, resources, etc. which they would routinely be able to use from their respective universes. Teammates may share resources with each other. Afterwards, both teams are teleported to the randomly chosen plane, which has mystically sealed off so that none of them can escape the battlefield in any way. The team that manages to knock out and/or kill both members of the opposing team will be declared the winner. There is no time limit.
Write ups for both teams:
Team "Justice For All" - Gideon Jura and Captain America
Gideon Jura is a Magic The Gathering Planeswalker who also happens to be a gifted Hieromancer, the magic of Order. He is a stalwart man of honor and justice, always looking to bring order to the world through his strength and holy magic. Only after allying himself with a fiery personality in Chandra did he realize that the order he worked for might not be all it's cracked up to be, and has decided now to fight in the name of what order and morality truly stand for, and to protect those in need.
Both are believers in true justice, are kind souls that can't stand to see an innocent get persecuted while the guilty roam free. And both will always fight for what is right, even if it defies the wishes of their orders/government.
Team "Disney Villains" - Sorcerer Jafar and Maleficent
Two of the most well-known of the Disney Villains, this is Jafar after the Genie granted him his second wish, to become the most powerful sorcerer in the world. Maleficent, on the other hand, is the mistress of all evil. Together, the two of them have attempted to ruin the resolution of many a fairy tale, and will stop at nothing to make sure the others don't get their happy endings.
How do I vote for the team I like? Well, I'm glad you asked...
This tournament uses a “Dual-Voting System” in which every user on MTGS may vote twice, once on the poll of the thread, and once by posting on the thread itself (by explicitly stating “I vote for team *insert name* because *insert reason*” in a post on the thread). You may spread these votes as you wish (you can vote anonymously on the poll for one team, but express your vote publicly through a post for another), or use them both to vote for the same team, or only vote once (using either method). In the end, the total of both "poll" and "post" votes will be used to determine a winner. In the event of a tie between total votes, the team with the most votes posted publicly on the thread itself shall be declared the winner, and move on to the next round. You only have one week to vote (two weeks for the semi-finals and finals), and the poll automatically closes on Sunday, 12MN (GMT +1). Only posts that occur before that time will be counted as valid votes.
Now, who wins this match? Root for your favorites now!

I have personally killed several bears in the course of this challenge, with the use of snares and other traps.
Well the argument that Maleficent can't take damage isn't going to work due to her pure and noble competition so this match could actually be pretty close but I'm going to vote for team Justice for All for now just because Gideon was regularly 1v1ing eldrazi so he's used to fighting enemies the size of buildings.
Gotta agree with Warp778, the Pure intentions of her enemies will be her undoing. Gideon is a beacon for Justice, his White Magic will be her downfall. Plus, Captain America imbued with White Magic is a deadly foe...
Voting for Team: Justice for All

Classic good VS evil, but HARD CORE style none of this disney plot is save the day! I am going to side with Good here. I think Captin America is a LOT stronger than Jafar, and I think after they dispose of him, it would be a GOOD fight against Malicicent. they have a soild shot at winning since they are basicly the enbodyment of her weakness
Jafar's casting speed would probably give Gideon a lot of trouble, and Maleficent is arguably on Liliana's level, so I think this will be a fascinating match that can go either way. Captain America's shield could be enchanted by some "pure light" infused spell by Gideon, but if Jafar and Maleficent see this coming (and they should), Jafar should use his magic to dispel it.

I'm surprised you guys think this will be close. Sure, force for good and all that - but they're still up against a huge black dragon and a sorcerer who can basically do anything on a whim.
... Gideon was regularly 1v1ing eldrazi so he's used to fighting enemies the size of buildings.
This is not true. Gideon fought some Eldrazi spawn, once, with an entire fort's worth of archers supporting him. He drew the spawn to him to buy the archers time to take down the rest.
Then he saw Emrakul float by, crapped his pants and ran.
The way I see this going down...
Captain America, enchanted with everything Gideon has to offer, runs at the giant black dragon while Gideon holds her down with an Arrest. Jafar, originally planning on dispelling the Captain's enchantments out of the gates, changes his mind and dispels the bonds holding Maleficent instead. A quick golf-club-swing later, and Jafar has sent Gideon flying all the way to Jamuraa, but not quite in time to stop Cap from getting a solid hit on Maleficent's chin with his enchanted shield. She lets out an awful shriek of pain and rage as she reels back, her face smoking with holy fire.
Cap jumps up, catches his shield and turns to Jafar in one smooth motion, ready to block whatever spells he might throw, but instead Jafar reverts back to plan and just dispels everything surrounding him. Back down to size, Captain America charges Jafar, blocking a fire bolt, smashing through a conjured wall of glass and dodging a flying scimitar before hurling his shield at Jafar, knocking the staff from his hand and him off his feet.
Jafar scrambles for his staff, Captain America catches his sheild and is about ready to end this fight when the jaws of a giant black dragon close around him, snapping him up from behind. Jafar retrieves his staff and turns, ready to fight, but instead just sees Maleficent swallow.

Great write up, Stardust.
Acutally, I find it a bit strange. You're the first one to officially post vote for Disney Villains, but they're leading the poll with double the votes. Hmmmm...
How would the Disney Villains hold up against Gideon's magically induced invulnerability, I wonder? Could Captain America's shield absorb magic? These are still some interesting questions that I think could still be discussed for this match.

The villains are going to take this in a surprise victory if no one speaks up for the forces of good.
Which is poetic, because "evil triumphs when good men do nothing".
Still two days left to vote. I'm also still deciding if we're going to have further bonus matches. I have a few ideas lined up, but I also think that now that the tourney is concluded, we should probably give it a break. Comments welcome.

I've never been much for how much people have OPified Gideon in general. In the case of Bolas, at least the guy has earned his title as most powerful planeswalker over the many centuries of his existence with all that knowledge, galactic-level scheming and planning, and the ability to readily manipulate others, including entire races/planets on occasion.
All that said though, Its true that Gideon is no slouch.
In this case though you have two powerful magic users vs one and a superhuman with a super-shield, but still just a human. Both sorcerer's tag-team to take out Gideon immediately, and then poor cap gets knocked out/eaten/otherwise :p. I just see them as being too much for Justice for all.

Vote: Team Disney Villains.
I disagree with that assumption, Remember, Gideon has the ability to kill a tapped creature in game, which would translate to kill an attacking foe in his universe. So I think Gideon could easily take out one of the opposing team when they try to "gang up" on him, Ganging up on a Hieromancer is generally a very BAD idea... Divine Verdicts are very unpleasant.
Also, Gideon could enchant Captain or his shield with some kind of Hieromantic ENchantment so that whenever he blocks an attack with the shield, the attacker faces recoil damage or gets slowed down for a period of time. Plus, an Item imbued with White Magic would be prime pickings to slay Maleficient.
This isn't just a one sided landslide in favor of Disney villains, not when Gideon has such powerful magics available. I'm not saying he has every spell available to him, but when he is referenced using such a spell, you gotta give it to him. Like in the case of Celestial Flare which is in the same line of hieromancy as Divine Verdict and Gideon's Lawkeeper.

I think it's safe to say the TOU clean-sweeped the entire set of bonus matches. Funny how these tournaments work.
With my upcoming military service, I've been busy these past few weeks with logistical matters, gathering documents, and otherwise getting fit, so apologies for not updating you all. Come december, I will no longer be a frequent poster on MTGS (but I'll try), but it was a fun little run with you all while the TOC/TOU lasted.
That said, thank you all for participating, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
