This is getting stupid. I thought Goku was the king of crazy feats, but I see that superman also has his. This is WAY too inconsistent. You see Goku SS1 beat a dude who's destroyed galaxies on screen. Yet he apparently can't move planets (I think I've heard that from some superfanboys) and superman's power are also as inconsistant. I've seen him get beaten up by some guy throwing him around, and he was put into a "healing coma" from that guy beating him enough. In other ones, he essentially has the closest thing to a big bang punch ever (don't ask about the physics of it though).
Superman can't be fought. His very abilities make no sense. Goku, with the ki and all that still try to bring logic into it, superman just takes cool sounding things to make everything stupid. First, the FTL travel, how do we measure that? Do we allow it? Or ignore it? If we do what happens? As soon as one tries to go ftl they both lose as the universe breaks? What about the Octillion punch? Do we go "it says it works, so it works" or do we go by actual physics and go "he gets they idea, tries it and everything goes to hell". At least Goku has semi realistic powers.
I don't know what to do with Superman, I don't even know what to base myself off of, he was beaten by a big mummy. He can apparently withstand the end of the universe.
Being in contact with Kriptonite almost kills him. Actually it does nothing to him, he just is slightly weakened like a minor annoyance.
Red sun is bad for him. Nah he's fine. He can go into a yellow sun become super baws, or go in a red sun and ignore it entirely, what ever.
At least Goku had only 1 author :/
What the ****?
The red sun and kryptonite issues have only a handful of times been toyed with; All-Star Superman had Superman get overcharged with Sunlight, and he got a form of cancer that was killing him. It also changed how his powers worked for a time, but that wasn't a mainstream story for the character.
Superman isn't weak to Red Sunlight; it is the yellow sun that grants him his abilities, the red sunlight simply takes them away. If Goku did manage to figure it out and get them there, Superman would lose his powers.
Kryptonite has been pretty consistent as well; it weakens him horribly and it can kill him. Goku would have to know about it, and then get some.
Dragon Ball was largely written by Akira Toriyama, but he was not the only writer involved, and when GT happened he only oversaw parts, other writers like Aya Matsui (who wrote the story for GT) played larger roles when it came to the story.
Regardless, it is a really difficult argument; people are often bias one way or the other, and since they weren't created in the same type of world, it is very difficult to say who would outright win. Especially if they don't have any knowledge of each others weaknesses.
Did you not read the thread?
I can't really argue with you as anything you disagree with just becomes non canon for some reason.
But on the intelligence thing, Goku is innocent, not stupid. He may not be the brightest pencil in the shed but he shows to learn while fighting. And it seems kinda weird that we can't decide on a "version". We all agree that Superman Prime beats Goku, but we decided not to use it. I dunno, I'm distracted. Superman as I've seen in movies/youtube loses. I guess if you go by comics/stuff I haven't seen it might be closer.
But you seem to be way underestimating Goku.
Explain how I am underestimating Goku. And explain how the youtube link in my previous post doesn't dispell the "Brolly destroyed a galaxy in a single instant" argument.
Supes has this one in the bag. Goku burns energy too quickly and, after seeing superman peel outta the smoke cloud of several attacks without harm, would up the ante very quickly. After seeing supes' near invulberability in action, not even goku could summon enough energy to take out the man of steel. Not to mention the beating he would take in the meantime.
This assumes, of course, that they are both competent fighters.
I am no fan boy. I am biased to the goku side of things. But he has no chance here without kryptonite or a red sun. Barring prep time, neither of those things will be relevant to the fight.
That doesn't make me feel enlightened it just worries me that fanboys can be so dense
Batman is a normal human being he is fairly easy to kill and tbh if he faced any superhero be it wolverine or the hulk , they would wipe the floor with him.
Doesn't seem like you looked up "prep-time Batman" at all, then, considering Batman's beaten guys far beyond Wolverine's power level. It's not fanboys blowing up Batman's capabilities. Prep-time Batman's just that potent. Blame Batman's popularity. That forces writers to have Batman win absurdly overwhelming scenarios just cause he's Batman.
Also back on topic. Goku destroys the sun or uses instant translocation to teleport superman to a galaxy with red sun, this fights over.
You're assuming that 1. Goku can grab Superman and concentrate long enough to pull off an instant transmission, 2. Superman's gonna just let Goku charge up long enough to blast the sun, 3. Goku has any knowledge about Superman's weaknesses, 4. Goku, would act out of character and deprive an entire solar system of a basic necessity.
Despite the fact that I love Goku more than Superman, the Screwattack video or whatever it's called that analyses both fighters shows pretty convincingly from a purely mathematical perspective how much force both fighters can output, how fast they are, and how much damage they could realistically sustain towards the end.
And Supermans math blows Goku's out of the water, sadly.
The biggest flaw that they do in the video is that when Superman and Goku both deliver their ultimate punches it explodes the entire earth, which is extremely out of character for both fighters.
If either one of them came close to an assault that risked blowing up the entire earth just to use each others ultimate moves, they would move the fight to a place far away from earth. The video even states that Superman values entire buildings of metropolis not being damaged over his own physical safety, and Goku of course would never purposefully destroy the earth, even to win a fight.
So Goku realistically suggest to Superman that they instant transmission to one of the faraway planets in order to not risk the safety of the earth, which both people agree to for obvious reasons.
From there it's a crapshoot depending on where Goku transports them. He doesn't know to go to a red sun area, but in case he does, Superman is screwed. If not, and it's a perfectly normal yellow sun, then Superman beats Goku still due to math. Probably without even the need for destroying an entire planet.
Because Superman is mathematically faster, stronger and tougher than Goku. Special attacks probably don't even have time to be used.
Goku just put up as much of a fight as he did in the video because if Superman just squashed him immediately like what would most likely happen then the DBZ fans probably would of contracted Anonymous to ddos destroy the Screwattack website out of pure rage.
See, the thing with Superman is, they've kept powering him up over the years. He used to not be able to fly, only leap over tall buildings. They gave him the heat beam eyes, the frost breath, the celefame wrap S, among every other ability he has gained.
The funny part is to me, on his home plant no one else seemed to have any of these powers. If they did, they'd all basically be gods and would have survived their own planet's destruction by flying through space to find a new home.
I didn't say it doesn't happen, I said it's stupid and I don't understand why people think it's in anyway realistic. That's why I loved the Arkham city/asylum games as they were batman in a realistic capacity not batman able to beat anything through the magic of popularity and an idiotic audience.
@4: It's out of character for them to fight in first place.
Goku and Superman fighting makes no sense and sadly the superman people keep wanting to use prime superman despite original post stating not to. (we all know superman prime jumped the shark into godhood).
Just for myself, I want to make sure it was pointed out that I NEVER ONCE indicated I was talking about Prime. No one has directly responded to any of my arguments, so it may just be that you are talking about other people, but again, I never mentioned Prime. Standard Superman is all you need to kick the **** out of Goku.
@DarthVedik - I don't even know where to start with what you said, so I will just focus on the part about his home planet. Superman's home world Krypton revolved around a red sun, not a yellow one. No one on his planet had powers because they weren't exposed to the right radiation source, that is, the light from a yellow sun.
General Zod is a Kryptonian, as are Faora and Quex-Ul, to name just a few. Those three visited earth and gained powers when they did. So did Supergirl, so does every Kryptonian that comes to Earth.
Ah, see, I didn't know that. But under a red sun, they should still have some sort of power, right?
Our Sun emits 44888000900 kg of radiation gas a month. Rao, was a Red Supergiant. Red giants are many times more luminous than the Sun because of their large size. Red giant branch stars have luminosities about a hundred to several hundred times the sun. A Red Supergiant would still give off a massive amount of radiation. So the fact that he and everyone else on the planet don't have the same type of powers is just dumb and is misproven by science itself.
But even still, Superman is basically a god. Or... he's become one. Back when he first came about, he didn't fly, he didn't have any other ridiculous super powers. He was simply faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a freight train, and could leap buildings with a single bound. That was it.
Now he can spin the world around backwards to turn back time if he wants. It seemed like they just gave him that ability so the writers could get around their plot hole.
I guess what I'm trying to say here is that over the years they've ruined Superman. Just watch Superman III where he turns 'evil'.
At least the character of Goku has a reason he gets stronger and stronger. It's just what his race does if they get defeated and live, they come back more powerful.
I can honestly say I've never liked the 'boy scout'.
that ins an interesting point, So lets take this down to basic level,
KID GOKU VS OLD SCHOOL SUPERMAN!
This way their abilitys are clearly defined both have been beaten physicaly before, and both have clear cut restrictions on abilitys. no questions about further cannon, no questions about "gods fighting gods" just two young powerful people duking it out.
that ins an interesting point, So lets take this down to basic level,

Goku would probably win with a couple of whacks of the magic stick.
Goku is not unbeatable and has very clear limits.
Superman has no limits. He is as strong as he needs to be.
People give too much credit to Goku.
I have seen people saying stuff like ''Goku defeated enemies who could destroy planets/more in a blink of an eye.''
People, that NEVER happened! The only two foes who would destroy a planet were Fireza and Buu, and it was not in a blink of an eye.
I hate Superman, but even I can see that this battle is one sided. Goku has faced powerful opponents, but never an opponent as strong as Superman. I am sorry, it is not even close.
I think I agree that super will win, but you are grossly underestimating Goku, Vegeta destroyed a planet before coming to earth. By that extention, they only fought two people who were strong enough to do it. Raditz, and Nappa (not sure about Nappa).
Frieza destroyed a planet with 1 finger way before the series started and it was pretty instantaneous. Buu destroyed solar systems just as fast. During the cell games, every 5 seconds a "careful you'll blow up the earth" was thrown around.
But when you go into metamagic (I vibrate really close to the speed of light so my punch hurts more) super wins. However, if you go into that logic, I doubt goku wouldn't be able to do the same.
Also if Goku had decades of power creep like Super did, I'm sure he'd have the edge. But the Magic Man takes the lead.
Frieza destryoing a planet with 1 finger is not canon so I don't want to use that as an argument. The only non canon thing I would use is SS4 because we need Goku in his prime for this battle.
And "careful you'll blow up the earth" is a mistranslation. It is said only once in the manga(can't remember when).
But Vegeta and Nappa at the beginning of the Saiyan Saga were able to destroy the planet Arlia very easily. And that was at the beginning of the show.
That was before Goku became a Super Saiyan, a Super Saiyan 2, Super Saiyan 3, Super Saiyan 4. That's before training in the hyperbolic time chamber, and that's before a lot of the villains that Goku defeated even existed yet.
I personally think Goku would win. People put too much emphasis on pure strength, and not enough on fighting capabilities. Who would win in a fight? The worlds strongest man? Or the worlds greatest fighter? Goku is a much better fighter than Superman, even if Superman is stronger.
Ah, see, I didn't know that. But under a red sun, they should still have some sort of power, right?

You can't really try to force reality into fantasy.
The general idea behind the light is that it isn't the radiation output, it is literally the type of sunlight. Krypton was a world bathed in red light, our planet is different with the yellow sunlight. You can't look at the hard science when you are talking about imaginary characters unless those characters came preprogrammed in with it.
Also you seem to mostly be focused on the movie versions of Superman, I'd err more on the side of the comic book version.
Regardless, this topic has been beaten to death. Clearly the general consensus is that Goku somehow through some sort of miracle defeats Superman. I think we can all agree that they are both incredibly powerful entities; who wins is a matter of opinion.
Everyone needs to watch the screw attack video before commenting. Holy crap is it good.
Without anyone to stop them? It would be relatively simple to have a kind of depth charge effect
Is that what was linked before?
It was utter crap.
The only good thing about it, is it told me what I should google.
Goku's feats were stupid. It was like I tried to compare us both in a bike race and go. At age 4, you went 100M in 30 seconds in sprint. And we say you can go twice as fast as you run while biking, and another twice as fast when you have a racing bike. So your speed as an adult on a racing bike is 800m/minute.
Conveniently forgetting the fact that from kid to adult, you'd get faster as well. In addition, they take the early (as in dragon ball, not dragon ball z) stuff as goku's "abilities" the stupid staff? What? That's like saying Super still can't fly and can only jump over buildings, cause we are using first iteration things. And then you can tell they know nothing about goku when they start the kaioken within SSJ thing. It was terrible.
Are you referring to the bomb that they used to extrapolate Goku's durability?
If everything was multiplicative after that point, then it makes sense to do so. I'm pretty sure they just used the dbz encyclopedia that was referenced for all the multiplicative stuff
Where did they multiple from dragon ball, where your child comparison might work?
Silver Age Superman uses time travel to save lil timmies cat from a tree.
Silver Age Superman goes back in time and kills Goku before he is immortal or more in line with a duel, he keeps pressing the reset button untill he defeats Goku.

This video does a good job of breaking down each guy's power and facing them against each other. They also take each guy's personality and the way they normally fight into account. They have Superman winning, but barely and not until they've destroyed the earth in the process.
Against regular super man ? Goku without a shred of doubt. Reasons:
* Vegeta could destroy earth with his special attack before he even dream of becoming a SS1 and Goku's kame proved to be stronger. A SS4 can probably wipe a solar system with a avarage energy ball.
* Goku can easilly destroy the nearest sun, leaving super man without a energy source. As the fight goes own he would spend energy without recovering it.
* Goku's attacks are magical (they are spiritual energy) and would probably hurt sups.
* Goku is the greatest martial artist of his universe. In a fight with beings of similar scale of strength, speed and endurance, that really counts.
* The amount of energy needed to wound Goku is completely out of Superman's league. In SS4 a attack strong enough to destroy earth wouldn't move a hair.
Anything goku can do is "badly translated crap". Where as superman has had so many writers, and anything any of them say counts as canon. The guy who said "That was like 15 supernovas to the face" did not even damage the moon. His "15 supernovas to the face" did not even noticeably heat up the air within 20 meters of him. The best part, the show where that came from shows super getting whoooooooped. But people ignore that, and just go with the "15 supernovas to the face".
Here's the video. You might say "He was faking it." Fake blood too? And fake popped eye vessel? If the power to destroy a solar system would kill Goku, then how come the "15 supernovas to the face" did not kill all the humans standing within like 30 meters?
This proves this fight is futile. The Goku side is "OMG, Goku is so strong, here's what he can do" and the superman side is "I'm going to ignore that."
Ok, I will take your points and give you canon arguments to why Superman would win
* Superman survived 15 supernova's to the face. In case you did not know, that is a much stronger froce than one needed to destroy the Earth. MUCH stronger force. Goku can wipe a solar system with a single energy ball? I will soon show you how foolish you are.
* Goku destroying a sun or an entire solar system is just your fanfic. Also, he would get obliterated by the explosion(YES, he would. Not a single being in DBZ can survive the heath of the Sun)...oh, and Goku can't breathe in space. No, Goku can't IT away from the explosion since it requiers a lot of concentration(read the manga, ignore poorly translated anime).
* No, DBZ manga makes this very clear. Ki is not magic. There is magic in the DB universe, but there were only a few users. Once again, Goku uses Ki which is not magic.
* Yes, that counts However, Superman is stronger and faster and he is an expert in pressure point combat.
* Let me explain the Superman is stronger and faster part here. First, destroy the Earth thing is your fanfic...note that Omega Shenron almost murdered SS4 Goku. So what, each of his attacks is like one exploding Earth? Logic, I fail to see you. Now, about Supes. He can move planets, he held a black hole in his hand, he sruvived 15 supernovas to the face, he obliterated a planet with his heath vision and all that and even more aside...he can use the infinite mass punch which more less destroys an entire planet. Superman gains power from the yellow sun meaning that as long as he is in a system which has a yellow sun his power is limitless(although he would have to charge inside the sun for some periods of time to become stronger).
However...
Since I really hate Superman and I grew up with DBZ, I hope this new Super Saiyan God form will be enough to take Superman down.
In order to do so Goku must gain:
-An unlimited amount of ki
-A strength, speed and durability boost...a omfg wtf ffs kind of boost.
Superman can always gain more power therefor Goku must also gain unlimited amount of ki so that he wouldn't spend it all during the battle.
Goku CAN destory the sun. Hell, perfect Cell had enough power to destory the solar system.
However super man always wins because of loads of writers doing whatever the hell they please. Especially when people start bringing out silver-age supes where he destroyed a galaxy with a sneeze or starting juggling planets for a party.
It seems to me this all comes down to personal preference. Both have enough power to destroy plants and stars and such. Both are tough enough to withstand that kind of force. Strength and speed are up for debate. Superman needs a yellow star (actually any star bigger than a red one) to power himself but Goku has to breathe and can't survive the vacuum of space. So yeah, it's either a tie or the winner is the one you like best.
The red sun and kryptonite issues have only a handful of times been toyed with; All-Star Superman had Superman get overcharged with Sunlight, and he got a form of cancer that was killing him. It also changed how his powers worked for a time, but that wasn't a mainstream story for the character.
