To be fair, most of the stupidly overpowered stuff in starwars stems from bad writing. But the same is probably true of 40k.
Like the Galaxy Gun and World Devestators. And Palpatine's ability to clone himself and then possess the clone to become pseudo-immortal. And Centerpoint Station. And however many more Death Stars got built so authors could keep telling the same story over and over...
40k's entire gimmick is how over the top it is. That's basically what the game is sold on. There's not many universes that can out stupid 40k (aside from superhero ones)
40k's entire gimmick is how over the top it is. That's basically what the game is sold on. There's not many universes that can out stupid 40k (aside from superhero ones)
Except Star wars, you realize how much stupid there is in the EU for star wars? Plenty...
The Multiple Death Stars, the Palpatine Clones (yet they all somehow must be deformed like him?) The invincible sun-destroying fighter...
And how there apparently are lots of Jedi/Sith when the films established that Vader, PAlpatine, and Luke were the last... They just all magically pop up from the ground whenever it seems appropriate... How come they didn't assist the rebellion? Pfft. At least 40K canon makes sense, SW just recons things as they see fit... only 3 Jedi/Sith? Let's make another one pop up for this story! Need something stupidly overpowered for a story? Invincible Fighter with a sun-killing weapon! Wanna retell the run on the Death Star? They made another one!
At least there's SOME continuity in 40K that they relatively stick to... The Emperah isn't coming back to life magically and slaying daemons, then get's re-injured... OR made a clone of himself, etc...
And the magic properties of 40K are a lot better explained than "Use the force!" I'm really supposed to believe germs give jedi/sith those powers?
At least there's a drawback for using it in 40K... Star Wars is so full of fail in that department... You're telling me these germs won't kill the Jedi/Sith over time/use? At least with Psykers there's a very high chance of either killing yourself, killing billions of people, or becoming possessed by a Warp-Entity/Daemon.
I just don't buy the Jedi thing, or the tiny fighter that is indestructible, is it X-Men level Adamantium?!
Sorry if I seem to be
Argh, my head hurts...
I'll admit, there's some OTT stuff in 40K, but not nearly as out of nowhere as the stuff SW comes up with...

Actually at least with the dark side of the force, it DOES kill the Sith in question, force lightning in particular is an attack that causes such horrible physical deterioration. Also Xmen adamanite is only 10x harder than dimond and CAN be broken (hulk did it!)

Having spent close to 4 hours reading the Wikipedia entires on Wahmmher $40k (I had no idea there was that much material on that game- wow), and a lifetime of Star Wars Fanboydom, I'm gonna have to give this to the Imperium and the Emperor of Man. Jedi have nothing on psykers, and they don't have the numbers or uber-battle tech to deal with the Imperium. Plus, one on one, Palps has NO game at all vs the Emperor of Mankind - no way.

Also lets not forget the Sisters of Battle they can channel the Power of The Golden Throne of Terra itself and what does the Empire have 2 power weilders Jedi an order of 10k nothing compared to the untold billions that The Emperor controlls also how many armies does the galactic empire have 1 last time I checked which is mostly troopers
The imperium has if you include the Holy Inquisition 4
Also Jedi and Sith have to concentrate their minds where as The Emperor can just twist his hand then to the warp the Empire goes
Also his mind is so feared that it can actually slow down a Tyrannid advance Dawn of War 2
The only thing the Jedi and Sith have close to 40k warhammer is a push still thats weak 6/7/2014 10:38:12 AM
This is a quote from The Emperor of Mankind talking about the creation of The Space Marines telling about how great and powerful they are
They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me. Like clay I shall mould them, and in the furnace of war forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, strategies and machines so that no foe can best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines and they shall know no fear.

Also the super weapons of both are awesome but the Exterminatus Extremis gets my votw because it has three types
1 Orbital Bombardment your ordinary burn the planet to a infernal fire ball
2 Flesh eating virus. Does exactly what the name says it does
3 Cyclonic Torpedoes destabilizing the planets core in a two stage blast The first torpedo penatrates the layers of the planet then eitherraises the cores temperature or lowers it then the Second torpedo ends the cores suffering
But The Galactic Empire only has This Death Star that ome moves anvery slowly and two has a weakness or needs a shield to protect it

Also what has Palpatine done for his Empire he didnt die for his people The Emperor did.
He didn't use his own genetic Holy Gene to create his Gods of War The Emperor did.
He didnt fight thousands if not millions of battles and after his ascendtion to the immaterium fight the Dark Gods of Chaos The Emperor did
And what doe sPalpatine do just sit on his Throne while The Emperor of Mankind actually did things that made The Imperium whole like accept the Inquisition but not make it a part of The Imperium
So The Emperor is The Great Pysker, Shield and Defender, Strategic thinker and the thing is He didnt even want to be a God because he thought that it would make him seem like a God of Chaos
Seriously though, one guy starting a profile on sally devoted only to this thread and the Emperor by means of one big necro.
Dang, he's like both Emperors combined when it comes to a will/means to fight death
It's perfectly clear in the edit of the OP this is AFTER the Horus Heresy, that picture of the Emperor of Man depicts him BEFORE the Horus Heresy, i.e. Palpatine wins at the least in looks because of this:
Well yeah, however, Palpatine couldn't even get close enough to the Emperor to do anything to him Adeptus Custodes would Pwn him and anything that tried to get to the emperor.

Well, the sad part is, one vortex Grenade on the death star would destroy it. in the canon, vortex grenades have swallowed up entire battlefields before. leaving nothing but a gaping hole in the planet. They're a mighty dangerous piece of tech, and just about every section of the Imperium's military has access to them.
Not to mention even low tier psykers can wreak devastation on a global scale.

Well, the interesting part is, one Termal Detonator on the Golden Throne would destroy it. In the canon, Termal Detonators have swallowed up entire armies/Trade Federation ships before. While a DeathStar leaves nothing but rubble of the planet. They're a mighty dangerous piece of tech, and at the least two of them were accessable to Palpatine.
Not to mention even Darth Vader can wreak devastation on a global scale.
I fixed that for you
Lol, wut? That's insane dude, oh, palpatine has two of them? big whoop, it's not gonna do much when there's an army of vortex grenade wielding supermen dropping them on your battlestation before it even gets to Holy Terra.
Space Marines can survive in a vacuum, can anyone in the Empire do that? One Terminator could take on and destroy an AT-AT, Chainfists love to chew through steel. It's like tissue to them.
Not to mention the Death Star can't travel that fast, so the Imperium could just Exterminatus the planet with the DS shield on it, and then virus bomb the death star, killing every living thing on the station. It takes what, twenty years to build a Death Star? lol
Any experienced Psyker could mindflay Palpatine and make Darth Vader commit hara-kiri with his lightsaber.

Ok so what about The Exterminatus Extremis
And the 3 types I mentioned earlier
Versus
PALPATINES
DEATH STAR
You mean the 2 types of Exterminatus that are not Exterminatus and the third where the ship has to cruise in under sublight engines from the star systems edge?
And you are seriously trying to compare it to one that can be dropped into the planets orbit, nuke the planet within 10 minutes then leave?
If the Deathstar gets any where near Earths orbit, which is likely as the Imperium can't knock it out of hyperspace, the Emperor and the golden throne are atomised long before the Emperor can rebuild much of his shattered psyche.

Umm, the Death Star can't travel at hyperspace... There's no evidence in canon to suggest is, and EU has been nullified.
It Most definitely would not reach Holy Terra, and even if it did, you have to get through the defenses in place in the rest of the solar system.
If it can't how did it leave the system it was built in, travel to Alderaan and from there to Yavin?
As for Sols defences as it can drop out of hyperspace at roughly Luna's orbit it has successfully bypassed pretty much all of them. Unlike the ships of the Imperium which would have to come out of warp out past Pluto.

Or, you know, the psykers could just overload the Death Star's power core and make it explode en route.
I'm sure the Inquisition has no qualms about unleashing a horde of daemons to devour the station either.
Or, ya know, The Mechanicus tribes of Mars could stop it.
Or, since the Chaos Gods know that the Emperor is their sole reason to come in to the phycial world, Tzeentch conjurs a Warpstorm around the deathstar and obliterates it.
Not fun to tick off a Chaos God bro. Defeating the Emperor is their job. Tzeentch, the all knowing, all seeing God he is, would've seen you coming toward Terra, and destroyed you.

Seriously could the pair of you please stop using the throw ***** at the wall and see if some miniscule part of it sticks technique and actually base your arguments on the Games Workshop produced material.
The Death Star is capable of dropping out of hyperspace in Earth orbit, on the other side of the planet to the moon, blow the planet up within 10 minutes of achieving orbit and then leave before the Imperium can counter it. That then unfortunately means that no Imperial ship can safely use the warp.

Again, show me, on film, where the Death star moves in hyperspace. I see no propulsion on that station, plus, there's a reason stations don't move that fast. It's not physically possible.

Would you care to try again with a little more logic? Like if it has no means of propulsion how did it leave Alderaan orbit. Also if it has no means of super-luminal travel which in Star-Wars is Hyperspace how did it travel between systems fast enough so that the crew are still alive.
For the last consider that it takes light 1 year to travel ~100 trillion kilometers so unless the distances involved in Star Wars are several orders of Magnitude smaller than that, which they aren't, the Death Star has to travel at super-luminal speeds to get between star systems in a time period less than Decades/Centuries.

Right, you're using information from outside of canon to justify your argument.
I'm using known psyker abilities against you and you claim you need citation? There are COUNTLESS stories of Psykers mind-raping the entire populace of a planet. You really think they're going to let some OTHER Corpse lay claim to the galaxy? In their opinion, it'd be better to take you out while you're weaker (haven't destroyed terra, etc.) before you try to claim the galaxy for your own.
Palpatine and his empire's mere Presence in the 40K universe would have everyone gunning for him. Hell, even the Eldar would want him dead.
Plus, Emperor, most powerful psyker in the galaxy. You really don't think there's a chance the death star could make it to terra, do you?
