So I've got a double motive here ... first, I'm posting this to get a rebate on my purchase of this sweet "down and out" TV mount from dynamic mounting. It really is awesome, and you can check out my posts on youtube and twitter that show this bad boy in action. It basically allows you to have your TV mounted really high and above an object that comes off your wall (fireplace probably most common) but pull the TV down for a better viewing angle when you're watching. Couldn't find anything else out there like this when I was seeking this kind of mount ... and I'd buy it again for sure.
My second motive is to seek advice for how to deal with a cable run issue ... The previous owner of my home had an HDMI cable ran behind the wall through some insulation from down where I have my equipment up to where the TV is mounted. The cable ran is unfortunately too short to support my new mount ... so I tried to pull a new one through by attaching it to the old cable. No Go. There is something in the middle of the wall that the cables are just stuck hard on. I've tried several different methods of attaching the cables together to pull them through, but no matter what it just gets stuck in the middle. The cables actually come out with what looks like dirt on the cable ... which is super weird because this wall is backed up to the brick side of our house and I assume the original cable was run through insulation.
I've done a bunch of google research on this but based on the particular issue I'm having it seems like I may just need to cut my wall open sort of in the middle and try to identify the issue visually. I'd really like to avoid that if possible ... wondering if anyone has expertise and could ask some probing questions and/or point me in the right direction for a solution that won't involve cutting my wall open.
Please be gentle ... this is the first time I have strayed from the MTG section of the forums.

Expertise says you have to open up the walls. If the previous owner ran it trought insulation, risks are that he didn't do it right. He might have cut where he shouldn't have, drilled where drilling was dangerous and wired the wire where a short could be caused.
Here's what you can do: First, make a small hole, 6 inch by 6 inch wide square. That's easy to patch up (any good hardware store is going to sell you patches that fit that size). Don't throw away the square if you like the paint color cause you are going to request the paint department to recreate the color.
Now that you have the hole made, look around with a small hand miror and a flashlight. If the acient owner was inteligent, wire was put in some protective tubing and the tubing is surounded by insulation. If he didn't do it like that, then he might have caused more damages than you believe.
Once you've assessed the quantity of work you need to do, you either do it yourself, if there's nothing to be repaired, or you hire a contractor to repair the damages and make your home safe. Making your home safe is more important than the HDMI wire.
I'm going to link you to some more professional advice: Mike Holmes's page. He can tell you everything you need to watch out for (you can contact him on twitter). http://makeitright.ca/ I know it's Canadian, but he's the right man to ask.
By the way, is the wire a straight line down or does it have a bend in it somewhere?

Casual crazy magic player, otaku maniac, unrully cosplayer, what did you expect me to be?
Thanks for the top notch advice. I'll see what Mike can tell me.
It seems like it should be straight down ... but there is a little ledge halfway down the run and I suspect the wire somehow bends there which is where it is getting stuck. Can't confirm though.
