Had another guy Block me for hardcasting an Okiba Gang Shinobi because "discard has no place in casual". Funny since most discard cards are designed with casual in mind. sounds like someone who encountered a ruling or discussion on a creature with "as comes into play" or "comes into play with" and was confused. All the modular in Mirrodin can likely be to blame. Resolutions may be a good idea to leave out of Core set...or at least with reminder text (This is a resolution effect and does not use the stack)
its like any other ability. you can respond to that ability but it does go onto the stack. unless stifled or voidslimed it still happens.
plaxmanta comes into play.

cannot target triggers if no valid target it fizzles if there is a valid target then it targets that creature.
same with vampire. it still comes into play and its ability goes on the stack. you can kill the vampire but they will still get the tokens because it still came into play. they just cannot regenerate it.
had to look. they are both triggered abilities. you can respond but that doesn't stop the ability from resolving off the stack. since they both met the requirements of coming into play.
so you could kill the plaxmanta before hand.

Plaxmanta hadn't resolved yet. It was still on the stack, so its ability hadn't triggered yet. Had it said "AS Plaxmanta comes into play...", then responding w/ a Gasp wouldn't work.

It gets very, very confusing.
Apparently.
Plaxmanta had resolved, and its ability had triggered, but the ability had not resolved. Thus, the Plaxmanta was still targetable (since it's the ability's resolution that makes it untargetable.)
If Plaxmanta itself was still on the stack, it couldn't be targeted with Last Gasp. At that point, the Plaxmanta is not a creature, but a creature spell.

I still don't quite understand why that works. The abilities don't seem to have anything that says the creature needs to stay in play. Godo comes into play and his ability triggers. Then something kills him and his ability suddenly goes away? Why does combat damage remain independant of the source but the triggered ability of the creature doesn't. I could easily see it if there was some if clause saying "when Godo comes into play, if it is in play, ...", but it isn't worded like that.

402.6. Once activated or triggered, an ability exists independently of its source as an ability on the stack. Destruction or removal of the source after that time won’t affect the ability. Note that some abilities cause a source to do something (for example, “Prodigal Sorcerer deals 1 damage to target creature or player”) rather than the ability doing anything directly. In these cases, any activated or triggered ability that references information about the source because the effect needs to be divided checks that information when the ability is put onto the stack. Otherwise, it will check that information when it resolves. In both instances, if the source is no longer in play, its last known information is used.
