I was going to the subway so that I could get home from my volunteer work at a performing arts center. I went to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, and after paying my fare, I passed a table that said, "Free Stress Tests." I saw a strange device on the table, and I said to the guy behind the table (while I was listening to my iPod), "Tell me that's not what I think it is." So I waited for the subway, and I realized that I was going to be there a while. So I decided to confirm my suspicions by going up to the place where I paid my fare, and on the table were books about Diatenics. And that confirmed it: these guys were Scientologists! Here in the subway! So I walked up to a guy that was waiting near the table, and he offered me a stress test. So I says to him, "Do I have to join your stupid-ass cult?" and I run off, and he shouts "Get him!" But that wasn't all. After seeing another train go by, I came back upstairs, stood a distance away from the "stress tests," and shouted, "HAIL XENU!!!" I then ran off. I don't know if they heard me, though. Then I got the idea of writing "Hail Xenu" on the back of The Onion that I had taken earlier in the day with a Sharpie. So I asked three people for Sharpies, and they didn't have them. Then I realized that the trains that I were waiting for were going downtown, not uptown. So I took an uptown train and was on my way.
Alas, there was a sad part to this story. I saw a big guy in a Brett Favre jersey sitting in one of the chairs, using an E-Meter. And sitting next to him was a little boy, his son. I felt so sad for the boy, realizing if his dad falls for this cult, he'll be in the poorhouse. I had half a mind to tell him that he should tell his dad that Scientology is a cult, but I decided against it.
This might go in controversial issues, but every religion could seem like a cult in its own way. It is that pratices agasint people are not seen everywhere the same way as it was decades or centuries ago unless you live in the middle east and blow up each others masques.
Since some ideas cause violence, wouldn't we be better off if we didn't have the idea that leads to violence? That would be too easy, knowledge was meant to be understood, not eliminated.
not every religion is a cult..... christianity is very much not so.... unless it is the tv evangelist youve seen on tv....
Not to start anything here, thats for Debate, but I would humbly suggest that you look up cult in the dictionary and then tell me that Christianity was not a cult at the time of the Romans, for nearly a century after Christ's death. The same can be said of almost any religion at its begining.

Evry true.
Only difference between a cult and a religeon is how accepted it is.
"One skilled at battle takes a stand in the ground of no defeat
And so does not lose the enemy's defeat.
Therefore, the victorious military is first victorious and after that does battle.
The defeated military first does battle and after that seeks victory."
Those who are scientologists now probably don't want to give up their ideas simply because they've devoted so much time and money to the cause, particularly the now brainwashed "upper level" scientologists.
And funny how a flash movie can change so many people's perspectives on such things, but mere reports cannot.

Not to start anything but it's too late. I did mention social acceptablity in one of those contro issues thread on a forum somewhere...
but I kid because I lov..
At this moment it could only be measured at six billion or less, there's new religions as they say forming each day. But I'm sure it can be boiled down to just a few ideas...and literally.
People need to belong. Scientology is easy to "belong" with in todays day and age. They teach selfishness and ask only for money. They are a vindictive and paranoid lot. Their teaching tell to meet critisism with more critisism and attack with a stronger attack. They also teach that if you cannot find a truth to use against an enemy to fabricate a lie. People in general are like this to begin with, making it very easy to work within the cults boundaries.
How dare you guys insult my faith? I will sooo sue you!!!
Psych, I am not a Scientologist. I'm Christian. I went on a date with a girl last year, and we had dinner with her parents. As the evening wore on, the topic of religion came up. Now, this girl was really cute, so I assumed she was a Christian like me. I said I was a Christian, and they looked at me condescendingly. I was like "WTF?" and they informed me that they were Scientologists. I stood up and walked out the door without another word. I never spoke to that girl again.

one time, these scientologists brought me into their church and had me watch a video on their faith. i was totally ****ed up on klonopin at the time, so i went along with it as a joke. it was great. and a little creepy. they're really scary, man.
Yeah. It is what they believe, too. The general public isn't supposed to know about it, though. They keep it a secret until some initiation thing, and then you have to keep it a secret.
I thought for sure they were gonna kill Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
So, you rejected this girl because of her and her family's religious beliefs.
Nice display of tolerance.
Are you sure you're really a Christian ?
Interesting query, K. On the one hand, his reaction is actually very historically "Christian," what with the rejection of someone with differing beliefs solely because of those beliefs. Even today the so-called "proper Christians" (I refuse to say good Christian) are rather intolerant even while screaming about tolerance. Just look at many's reaction to Muslims and gays. Even MD's statements are intolerant and ignorant:

What, cute girls can't be Muslim/Jewish/Pagan/whatever?
Although, to be fair, it does sound like the relationship was dead in the water with their reaction to MD's Christianity.

No, I'd attest that MD is looking after his religious beliefs because Scientology is pretty much an anti-religion cult. They believe that people who believe in stuff like Christianity are under control of alien spirits or something like that. As intolerant as Christians might be of other religious beliefs, in Scientology that's a cornerstone of the cult.

While obviously not all cute girls are Christian, and that is definitely a stereotype, you are bringing a lot of loaded language in here. First off, how do Christians "reject" non-Christians? Do they refuse to acknowledge them? Tell me how this word applies. Tell me, what are the Christian reactions to Muslims and gays? Hm? The "good" Christians are the ones that preach love and tolerance, and for myself and other "good" Christians (I am not trying to put myself on a pedastal, for I know I have many faults) we still love homosexuals as humans. And what about Muslims? I haven't heard any Christians saying anything bad about them.

Hey, you! Yeah, you behind the computer screen! You're unconstitutional.
Basically Scientology is a "religion" made up by a person who said that he was going to make up a religion to see if he can do it. I believe that they say that there are evil things in your body, and that is why people are bad, but they will sell you "cleansing", hence why people lose so much money in it. Basically it's the only "religion" I know of that tells people that with enough money they can be good.

While netdecking and testing VileHorror i thought about Biorhythm. Sure its really expensive, off-color and crappy but still you're always the one with creatures while playing VH. That made me think.

Religious Beliefs? Okay Aliens being strapped to volcanoes and thier spirts haunting us is not a religion..its a science fiction story. I wouldnt have walked out like that but there is no way I could ever seriously be in a relationship with a scientologist. Any religion that makes a Virgin Birth, Resurection of the dead, and the turning of water into wine seem par for the course isnt one for me.
He did show a lack of respect for those people (especailly the girl) and did nothing more then further thier beliefs that all christians are douchebags.
But Theres no way I would go back for dinner again to thier home.

Hubbard himself said so years ago. He confirmed he created it as an excerise and an experiment to see if he could create a religeon.
There are a few solid precepts in Scientology, however they are drenched in mumbo jumbo and can be found in any book on psychology.

the first 3 chapters of dianetics are good and then the rest is a piece of crape.

see what i mean.
Is that the one where they have that big "THIS IS WHAT SCIENTOLOGISTS ACTUALLY BELIEVE" on the screen during the story?
I thought for sure they were gonna kill Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
I will edit this post later and reveal the unfunny truth about Isaac Hayes.
