"Aw ya!" he smiles with this small victory, about to use a pokeball, he pauses, remembering something his father had taught him about capturing pokemon. Even if they are asleep when you use a pokeball on them, if no actual combat has been had, a pokemons natural energies and survival instincts could allow it to still break out of a pokeball early.
It does cause him to sigh a bit, having not wanted to do this, but feeling as though he must, "Sage, lets weaken it up a bit now with... a tackle attack."
The Hoothoot doesn't quiet understand why, but complies, flying into the sleeping Oddish with a winged tackle.
"Hmm, well it seems really asleep... alright, lets risk it!" He pulls out his pokeball, "Oddish, you're mine! Go Pokeball!" Throws it in an attempt to catch the pokemon.
The trainer blinks, heading over and picking up the pokeball, "... that was far easier then I expected..." he then smiled, "Lucky day it has been," he chuckles a bit, looking to Sage, "Well done my friend, first battle with full success, now take a rest," he returns the Hoothoot.
Derick smiles a bit, he is starting to get a bit tired, but he is sure he can find out where to go easily enough. He approaches the other trainer, "Oh, hello there, Hope I am not bothering you, I was actually wondering where the nearest city is.... a-and if you would maybe be interested in... a battle?" he asks, not the most socially active person.
He does pull out Kings Pokeball in preparation for battle.
Derick smiles, "Alright then, King!" he opens the pokeball, King appears in front of him, "Peck!" He commands, feeling a bit more confidant in battle, opening his PokeTool to record.
King pops out of the pokeball pumped for combat, "Nido!" it cries out as it charges the Machop.
"Let it close, then toss it!" Nidoran charged in at the Machop, who took the peck and proceeded to grab hold of some of the spikes on Nidoran's back and overhead-slam it into the ground. (Seismic toss)
King cried out in pain as it hit the ground, and actually sticks a bit, kicking the air in a panic, kind of a sitting duck.
Derick cringes a bit at the impact, "... Sorry King," he says, feeling he should have warned his pokemon or something, "I think your done for now," Uses pokeball to return him before he can get hit in a position like that. He puts the pokeball away, and pulls out another, "I hope you have better luck, come on out, Sage!" throws the pokeball, releasing the Hoothoot, "Try starting off with a Hypnosis Attack!" He commands, the Hoothoots eyes glow in an attempt, though still a good distance away.
The Hoothoot stops its assault, moving a bit back, the leer effecting it a bit more noticeable then normal. Derick speaks up, "Its almost down Sage, go for the final hit!" he calls out to his Bird pokemon, who shakes off its feeling of dread enough to attempt another tackle attack.
The attack connects with Machop, and it is knocked into a nearby dumpster. Barry recalls Machop, and concees to Derick. "Well fought. You earned this."
Congrats! You defeated Black Belt Barry and his Machop! Hoothoot gains +7 experience, and you receive $80.
He thanks the blackbelt, and learns the directions to town. Derick thanks him for that and the battle and heads off happily with his more experienced Hoothoot and more filled wallet.
Iron walks towards the Phanpy, bellowing a greeting. The Phanpy replies with its own trumpeting greeting. They seem to be getting off to a good start, however as the conversation continues, Iron apparently says something that the Phanpy takes offense to. It gets very angry and starts swinging its trunk at Iron, ready to attack... (OCC: My WPL Dice roll beat yours, that means you'll have to either fight or get chased off by a little elephant, to great embarrassment. If it wasn't obvious, Phanpy is attacking Iron.)
Phanpy is attacking...
What do you do?
Derick's eyes widened, "Iron, Harden, then follow up with Metal Claw!" He orders before the little elephant can strike his pokemon.
Iron reacts as ordered, hunkering down, his armor glowing as he activates his harden to absorb the first blow of the trunk. Then he retaliates with a Metal Claw attack to the Phanpy.
The claw attack rolls Phanpy away from Aron . . . but the Phanpy turns the momentum into an attack, and starts rolling around, occasionally rolling toward Aron! (Rollout . . . they see me rollin', they hatin')
(ooc: Rollout, the bane of most trainers, even more so if you don't have a way of stopping it!... like me D=)
Derick's eyes widen, somewhat moving to hide out of the way while watching, "Iron! Harden again..." an idea coming to him, he opens his PokeTool, running some quick calculations, "Iron, Use Harden and dig into the ground, angle your head up," he orders, if the angle is right...
(OOC: Time to ramp into a wall if possible, lets see how tough this Phanpy is when its own attack is turned against it.... if it works... should I roll?)
Derick frowned a bit, this wasn't working as well as he could have. He quickly whistles to call back Iron, taking out his pokeball, "Alright, good luck my friend, Go!" throws the pokeball, appearing behind the rolling Phanpy is a pokemon that has yet to see action with Derick, the Oddish, the trainer does smile a bit, "Alright Oddish, Sweet Scent to throw it off guard!"
The female plant pokemon chimes in "Oddish!" as a cloud of pleasant scent suddenly fills the air around it, hopefully it would be enough to somewhat calm down the long nosed foe.

Derick smiles, arm pumping, "Now, follow it up with a Tackle Sage!" He orders, swing of things again.
Sage hoots a bit, taking off and flying right at the Machop at full speed.

The tackle rocks Machop into the ground, wher eit proceeded to still snooze. . . . and drool a little bit, for some reason. (still asleep)
The Hoothoot continues its flying tackle onslaught, bopping the sleeping Machop again.
