That was definitely more promising, the scuff marks led to a matching pair on the opposite roof and a trail of soot leading down to the ground. No sign of the assailant, however.
It was a lower roof and Dan made the jump easily. From the other roof he could see a smudge of soot on the opposite wall where Golt had presumably slid downwards.
Dan darted to the soot on the opposite edge of the roof and looked at the street level below him, seeing if there were any signs of the thief and if his descent to the ground could be made safely.
Dan could easily make the descent to the street, already having traveled half the distance by using the sloping roof. He could, however, find no obvious clues pointing out what direction his quarry had fled.
Dan hopped off the roof and looked around the outside of the building to see if there were any obvious signs that someone had forced an entry as of late.
