The sun was sinking. In the sky, that is. The muscular gentleman shifted his weight upon the rock as he pondered the meaning of it all. Would the sun still sink in that distant land? Or perhaps it would move from side to side. Would that be so odd a sight in the horrid land he was about to set out for?
...He decides it would. Even in that land, the sun would still sink. Perhaps sight unseen, but he could at least trust in the sun. A comforting thought. The sun, and in those he was about to meet.
Dr. Smalls glances at the list of names once more, and smiles.
Emille checked with Dr. Smalls to make sure her name was on the list of brave souls, then launched a shower of embers high above her as to show off her prowess to the other adventurers--especially Laghairt.
Dr. Smalls - "Quite the display there, Emille! And it's good to see you again Laghairt. You're on the list as well, which is the only test there will be this time. The book was quite explicit in its instructions, you see. Since it was quite vague when answering most of the other questions I can only imagine this means we have little margin for error when it comes to the Yue-Yue!"
OOC: Yeah, that's fine. As long as the bought stuff doesn't cause earlier stuff to not make any sense you can bring it in anytime.
Kage seemed to walk out of a nearby tree. Choosing to shift his suit to be a casual black tunic with a sash for Kaia to sit in as she was 'sheathed'. "Good afternoon Dr. Ready to head out as soon as I saw your flyer. Been waiting for the next part of your adventure. They have so far only brought me greatness." He said with a lazy smile and a stretch.
Laghairt looked for a few moments at Emile before he heard Kage and Olus. He turned to his friends and waved as he made the rest of his way to Dr. Smalls. Gigan hissed happily at the sight of Pharaoh.
**A fur-covered man, gruff and quivering with rage, stomps his way towards Dr. Smalls from deeper in the woods. A very tired looking dryad, armored in red and possessing both bow and floating shield, follows.**
Dr. Smalls - "Have you had any luck, Javert?"
Esyllt(Dryad) - "We haven't fou-"
Javert - "No trace of Greta! I haven't even found Ollie's fool ex-apprentice or that loud-mouthed bird of hers! If I knew of anyplace else to look I wouldn't be wasting my time here!"
Esyllt - "We contacted Javert's brother, he should be at the coast to pick us up soon."
Javert - "Fat lot that will do us."
**The furious trapper leans against a tree, carefully pulling up the long case he had been hauling into both hands. He doesn't open it, however.**
Alexis - The name is Alexis and it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I hear you are in need of some...
Alexis paused and watched the transaction between the good Dr, Eslyyt, and Javert. Her eyes never left the scenario. As she finished with the Dr. her eyes remained fixated on the long case.
"Doctor, this is quite the lot," Emille commented on the number of people involved in this excursion, across a variety of personality types and races. She took the time to introduce herself to the others.

A mere ten days after the Mending, a young knight of Valeron and a young ranger of Eos made a discovery that would change Alara forever.
Javert, to Laghairt - "My daughter! She was kidnapped last night."
Dr.Smalls - "I believe the kidnappers are headed to the same locat-"
**Javert groans in frustration as he clutches his forehead in one hand.**
Javert - "What am I doing here. This is insane. After we meet with my brother I'm staying here to fully conduct a sane search for my little girl. I've wasted enough of my life chasing that fairytale."
**Javert maneuvers the case beneath one arm and heads into the forest, apparently taking a woodland path to the coast.**
Dr.Smalls - "I.. Hrm." **Looks back at the paper, then smiles as he briefly resumes his chat with Alexis** "Indeed we are! The pleasure is mutual. I think it's about time we headed towards the coast though- **Turns to address the entire group** Thank you all for coming! There is a town near the coast not far from here, if no one minds I would like to begin heading over there while describing what exactly this task entails - I wouldn't want anyone to agree to this without knowing what they are getting themselves into. Esyllt, did you see where Tratorious went off to?"
Esyllt - "I saw him talking to some traveling merchants in the town. At least, I think he was talking to them."
Kage spoke up, "Please Dr., do tell of the tale we are to tel this time. My book could use some new chapters." He said with a grin as he walked on quiet paws.
**The group sets off! The forest air is pleasantly cool, the forest is neither too loud nor eerily silent.**
Dr. Smalls - "Long ago there existed a type of magical bird known as the 'passage crow'. They had numerous powers and were known both for their intelligence and their shepherding of the dead. I haven't found any evidence that they actually shepherd the dead, although some works in the-"
Esyllt - "We'll likely be seeing them in the frozen wastes, right Dr.?"
Dr. Smalls - "Indeed we shall!"
**Javert suddenly calls out from his position at the front of the group - he had, to his dismay, failed to keep ahead of them.**
Javert - "And then we'll dance with the earwax fairy, will we?"
Dr. Smalls - "Sadly not!"
Esyllt - "I believe you are actually somewhat of an expert on this legend, Javert, perhaps you could share it with those gathered here?"
Javert - "Tch, not expert enough for you to believe me when I say it's nothing but tall tales. But fine, better than having Smalls tell it like it's as solid as the color of the leaves."
**He clears his throat and begins to speak, his pace not slowing a single step as he does so. He even speeds up a bit.**
Javert - "Long ago there were a race of spirit-crows that helped the dead pass on to the afterlife and such. One of these crows, some tales say he was the king 'cause everyone is royalty in such tales, was twisted by the ancient arts and turned into some kind of monster. Or twisted himself. Or ate a god of chaos. Or lost a bet with the sky. Stories vary.
**Another breath, another quickening of his pace.**
Javert - "So the king of crows became the Yue-Yue, the Yue-Yue bound the other crows to a frozen waste - either they rebelled, or he did it by accident, again the tales vary - at the heart of which lies the city of Notawhere. Notawhere, city of monsters, mecca of the boogeymen, den of all manner of creeps and crawlers, etc., etc. Legend has it that the denizens of Notawhere sneak out from the icy wastes and kidnap the young and the homeless for their foul purpos- ANYWAY, it's just a tale. I spent a year trying to find the place with my brother, and he's spent many more than that!
Dr. Smalls - "I dare say finding the city is a task that could take several lifetimes and still end in failure - the book was far more specific when it came to this leg of the my quest for the compass than any other. But it did detail the path, and what we need to do to slay a monster thought to be unslayable. To this end we will meet up with Javert's brother, sail across the sea, cross the frozen waste, pass through the mist-shrouded mountains that surround the city itself, infiltrate the monstrous city of Notawhere, acquire passage through the suzerain barrier - the book specifically noted we shouldn't try to brute force it, and finally sneak into the mountain citadel of the Yue-Yue and slay it. Any questions?"
Alexis - Dr. I am happy to escort you wherever we may go. You seem to be a noble man with a lawful purpose. I must ask though, do you really believe these children's stories? If we are to rescue a Greta, we may have more luck searching through city records for recently released sex criminals than listening to tales of magical birds.
Javert - "No. I heard her scream from inside the house and ran in to find her gone. I heard some more noises in my bedroom, **Clutches the case under his arm more tightly** but there wasn't anything there when I charged in either. Myself and a friend of my daughter ran around the forest to find the trail but we didn't find so much as a single footprint!"
Esyllt - "She isn't the only child to have vanished along the coast, there have been 5 other kidnappings in the past month, six if Greta's missing friend was also taken."
Alexis placed her left hand on Javert's shoulder, her right hand displayed an open cigarette case suggestively pointed at the man.
Alexis - Look you seem like a decent man but these stories you tell seem so... absurd. Most of the time young girls are taken by someone they know. Was there anyone staying at the house when his occurred? Anyone who seemed to have a special interest in Gretchen?
When the man met Alexis in the eyes, she gazed into his soul.
Laghairt held his hand which held the scale out between Alexis and Javert's faces to show them both.
Laghairt - You see this, it came from a giant reptile with metal bones. It had wings and could fly. It could also shoot lightning from it's mouth. I've never heard of a Yue-Yue, but I've seen magical creatures many times in my life. Why would a whole city filled with monsters ruled by a magical bird be outside the realm of possibility? So if Dr. Smalls says the book told him how to get there and he believes that Greta and the other children are there, then we should make our way there quickly.
Alexis - This world is filled with fantastical beasts, this I do not dispute. The magical properties corroborating some kind of afterlife and a propensity to kidnap children? These fantastical properties are beyond belief. They sound too attenuated to the ways of wild beasts and more akin to the wild stories and evil nature of man.
...He decides it would. Even in that land, the sun would still sink. Perhaps sight unseen, but he could at least trust in the sun. A comforting thought. The sun, and in those he was about to meet.
