Lord Varel - "That's a story that I've done my best to avoid telling for many years... Felix was the sort of man that was well liked by any who met him. Strong and brave, but good tempered as well. My sweet sister Celest quickly became enamored with him and infatuation eventually grew into a deep love as Felix's previous wife had died of sickness. Felix became akin to family to us. After a particularly eventful adventure Felix came back changed... The best word for it I can think of is haunted. It hadn't gone well you see. He'd lost friends. A few weeks later a man, a powerful mage came after him seeking vengeance. He orchestrated the capture of my sister. Felix and I set out to rescue her and it was more dangerous than I could have imagined. We did battle with the mage and his minions. In the end when the mage knew he would be defeated he cast a deadly spell towards Celest. Felix jumped in front of the spell sacrificing himself to save her. I avenged his death as best I could by ending the mage's life... But nothing could replace his presence in our lives. Perhaps The Wood Witch blames us for his death... And rightly so... If only I had been faster..."
Miko - "Odd. The wood witch is under the impression that Celest personally sacrificed him. If we could gather proof that she wasn't the one responsible convincing the witch to end the curse might not be difficult. Is there anything in her diary about this?"
Peter - well this may help her realize that it's not your sister's fault but, it does not help us cure this curse on your sister. Where did you kill this Mage at, I fear this Mage could have become something more devious.
Lord Varel - "A valid concern in many circumstances, I can be certain that it's not an issue in this case. I pulled the life force from the mage's body myself and consumed it. You can believe that he is dead. I didn't even allow his spirit to escape me."
The butler was clearly flustered at her forward approach. He led the group to the main sitting room, muttering something about ruffians.
Lord Varel - "I'll admit I did not expect you to come Wood Witch."
The woman scowled at him.
WW - "You may call me Pythia... I had to come and do what I could to reverse the damage that I caused... I've introduced her to a slumber parasite. I'll need to send these people into her mind to battle it."
Lord Varel - "I will be the one to venture in and battle the beast!"
Pythia - "Don't be a fool, I can't maintain the connection and manifest a damn scion! Your mercenaries must suffice!"
The scion turned to the group of gathered adventurers.
Lord Varel - "I'm sorry that I must ask you to extend your services my friends."
