Laroc - "She seems like she can handle herself. And she's carrying enough magical equipment for an arsenal. Honestly if it comes down to it, you'd probably be better off hiding behind her than the other way around."
How it was that a bird was able to express uncertainty without any mutable facial features will remain a mystery for the ages. Lauren had found a dip in the earth near the tree, after a moment's hesitation she walked into the dip, disappearing beneath earth.
As was probably evident the patch of earth was some sort of illusion, covering a stone staircase which descend in a spiral, eventually opening out into a white-stone foyer type area.
Ahead of the entrance were five pillars. Four in a line engraved with a flower, a leaf, a sun and a snowflake. One stood alone before them, engraved with the image of a scroll. In each of the four corners of the room were wooden doors, firmly closed.
Lauren- Well, this is it.
Lauren shifted off to one side and pulled from the void purse she was carrying a folded steel contraption. With a flick of her wrist it became a vaguely chair shaped object, onto which she threw a number of cushions as she continued to pull from the purse.
The engraving seemed perfectly ordinary, preserved remarkably well considering the supposed age of the temple. Those who looked at it closely felt a strange urge to reach out and touch it.
**Laroc considered that for a moment. Clearly magical, clearly trying to compel him. But.......eh. This was what they'd come here for, after all. With that in mind, the atarin reached out and lightly touched the scroll.**
**Celia waited patiently as Laroc was testing the fifth pillar. She had studied each of the other four pillars in turn, and surmised that they were essentially locks for the doors, at least that seemed apparent. Figuring out how they opened was the key. So she waited to see what touching the scroll would accomplish.**
As Laroc touched the pillar the engraving glowed faintly white, everyone gathered in the room became aware of the following words, each in their native tongue.
You stand before the Crucible of Ages. The watcher of days, seasons and stars.
Below you lie twelve chambers, kept in balance and monitored closely by another.
Should you wish to alter the balance, you must bear a Force of Ages.
Go ahead and run, you'll only die tired.
Those who might never meet are pooled together
To live is to hope, and while we breathe, we hope and live.

Arl - "I promise I won't recklessly do things to prove myself or my courage."
**Cee appears to feel somewhat iffy about Arl's choice of words.**

She finally got her cushions lined up and plumped down in the chair with a sigh.

**Arl looks at the flower pedestal. If nothing happens from her verbal agreement, she touches the flower.**
