One way or another a package finds its way to the adventures that had braved the trials of the book of knowledge with Dr. Smalls. The letter inside was slightly different for each of them, but the following is the general gist of its contents:
Hello <Name>! How have you been doing? I’m sorry if my writing is a bit archaic, I’m told the standards changed a bit over the centuries. I’m almost done with my book though! You might have heard about it – “2,513 ways to eat Mushrooms: A comprehensive guide by Esyllt Glistendew”. A couple of chefs Dr. Smalls knows in sylvan think it’ll be a must-have in the culinary circuit! I enclosed a copy of it with this letter, tell me what you think.
Also enclosed in this letter is an invitation to Mr. Plum’s wedding! I know, I’m using far too many exclamation points, but I’ve had a lot to be excited about since leaving the dungeon! I had forgotten how beautiful the world is. Anyway, he and Charsi would love to have you all show up if you can. Feel free to bring your friends, this is going to be a fairly large affair. Dr. Smalls claims he’ll try his hardest to make it, but the instructions the book of knowledge gave him are running him ragged. He can only assume that the extremely specific instructions he was given mean that finding the compass was truly a long shot (Most of the other answers the book gave were far less complete – it probably only said as much as it had to). In anycase, he and Tratorius are currently looking for a pauper’s grave across the sea. Something about skull head pins. The Doctor says next real challenge will be coming up soon. He also said only some of you will be joining up with him for this one – the book gave him a precise list of names – but I didn’t ask who. You’re all heroes to me. This is only the first step towards the compass anyway. Apparently the artifact he’ll be after this time is called the “Crowd Key”. He’d actually never heard of the key before! I guess even Dr.Small’s doesn’t know everything. He had heard the legend of where it is, however. I’m somewhat concerned about going there, but it’ll be a chance to help an untold number of people even if we don’t find the key.
I do hope to see you at the party though! Please make it if you can!
Dearest thanks,
Esyllt Glistendew
**Even those who did not receive a letter have heard of the upcoming wedding between Mr. Plum and Charsi. Charsi in particular was quite the social butterfly, and it would be no surprise if an adventure or two found themselves to be a friend of a friend…**
Daring Group Needed for Excessively Dangerous Mission! - Do you have a love for adventure? A dire need to face death in the face and punch it most vigorously? Do you want to put an end to an ancient evil across the sea that has killed an untold number of individuals over the course of several millennia? If so, this quest may be for you! I, Dr. Bartholomew Smalls, am in need of several brave souls to aid me in putting an end to this evil and collecting an artifact lost by one of the many previous groups that dared oppose it! Meet me at the southern forest at *description of location*. There will be a test at the location, but it will not be like the previous tests I conducted for certain other excursions.
NOTE: Circumstances have required that we leave immediately; a life may depend on it. Please come by this very night! We apologize for rushing you.
*The later note looks like it was quickly sprawled on the various papers, in a variety of handwritings*
NOTE: This quest is semi-out-of-timeline. It occurs after Violet Pavilion, which Occurs after Wild Tag, which occurs after the Quest for the Book of Knowledge. However, those on this quest may be on one other thing at the same time since it is both very long and sorta needs to start ASAP.
HELP NEEDED - A Dwarven village right outside of the Scionic Mountains has been invaded by a group of thugs. A few capable fighters and/or casters should be able to handle the matter, but more are welcome. We please just ask you to lend your aid and you will be rewarded. Ask for Barrow Dragheel at Tom o' Bedlams in Sylvan for more details.
Four large tears are easily visible at the bottom of the note along with four holes in the board behind it.
Papers hung up in various taverns, rent houses and even a couple of guild houses read as follows:
Vivian deBourgh is looking to recruit one or two capable fellows to help him on with an excursion to the Epicrin colony of Vinterheim, in the northern tundra. Those dependent on magic or averse to extreme cold need not concern themselves. Vivian will take tea with potential recruits at his shop in Sylvan.
Word has spread around Elexia calling for warriors and mercenaries, and when word spreads in Elexia it spreads in circles both low and high. Several noble houses are gathering a force to retake Alkhum Island from what outlaw presence currently holds it, and are looking to any sort and breed of person for help. Those interested should seek out the elf Darragh at the Passenger Docks.
The Mountain Vault of Ash would like to announce a special Adventurer's Auction.
Rather than the usual rare oil paintings and ancient crockery that normally pass for lots in our auctions we have recently come in to possession of a number of items more suited to the adventurous and gold-laden citizens of Bakara. These items include but aren't limited to magical serums, inks and paints, rare creatures and even weapons.
So come up to the Mountain Vault to participate in the auction process. We will also be offering quick and easy liquidation to auction participants to help them make accurate bids.
Woman seeks help putting down the monster that killed her lover - Alswana Mekodash requests aid in taking down the fire-breathing shape-shifting reptile that murdered her gentle lover. Specialists welcome. The beast is highly intelligent and is very, very dangerous. If interested, see Alswana at the Drunken Ass in Epicrin for more details.
A group of competent individuals are requested to aid in a matter important to the running of the Night City of Sylvan. The group should comprise a mage, a machinist and at least two individuals capable of defending said same.
Please meet with Madame Rochev outside the House of Lords immediately if interested.
From a wandering bard in every city, word is spread and notices handed out:
"Sir Sepi seeks those with a penchant for wealth at the expense of their own personal safety. If you are such a person, then please report to Sir Sepi's Manor! It has come to his attention that he is in possession of several lost and forgotten works of magical prowess, but lacks the means to physically get them back himself. Upon helping him get the item he specifically wants, everything else you find along the way will be yours to keep! Imagine what you could do with some forgotten magic!"
**Very Official, but impromptu notices are seemingly posted over night, and read as follows**:
House Ancien is seeking the assistance of able-bodied adventurers in the return of a very important state possession, on behalf of Lady Sefirat Riven-Tremontaine acting seat of House Ancien, please seek the Lady Cassandra de Montferrat at The Bedlam for further direction. ~ This mission is of a highly sensitive nature and possibly extremely dangerous. Take that in mind.
HAPPY HUNTING, Sefirat Leontine Marie Riven-Tremontaine
