Dr. Smalls - The book itself is an ancient artifact that can see into the past, present, and future. It is not omniscient, but its power is legendary all the same. Any who reach the book may ask it one question. I wouldn't worry about the wording, the records of those who survived the trials suggest it is an unusually understanding and helpful for an ancient artifact of untold power.
After each attempt the entrance fades into a choking mist, only to appear at another location years later. It seems that the trial rooms are likewise connected via some sort of teleportation.
Mr. Plum - Yes, which trial rooms are used appear to change from attempt to attempt. The memoirs we found from some those who succeeded in the past spoke of puzzles, various combats, deadly obstacle courses, and some sort of terrible city. Both sets of memoirs seem to mention that last place, but the most recent had tears ruin the ink and too much of the other memoir was eaten by insects over the ages. No spiders though.
Tratorius - If the last group didn't get themselves killed we'd have better information. But no, they were a bunch of squabbling children that probably killed each other!
Dr.Smalls - We aren't sure the attempt eighty years ago ended like that Tratorius. Although I admit what records we have of the them suggest that was the case.
"Hmmm trial rooms" Laz said quietly to himself, feeling more confident in his abilities to be able to help, not just hinder due to his non muscular body.
"I have only one question, and my question is about the question in question." He stopped a moment to chuckle at his word play. "You said those who reach the tome may ask a question... Does that mean we must all agree on a single question?"
Dr. Smalls - Good question! No, it is one question per person. There is a limit to how big a group can make the attempt, but it is more than the ten of us present here.
Tratorius emerges from the tent with two backpacks that he unceremoniously tosses in front of Dr. Smalls before going back into the tent for more. One pack is labeled "Metal-free".
Dr. Smalls - I've prepared some basic survival packs for the journey. Feel free to look through them. I'll be expecting anything we don't use back at the end, although if you want to keep some of it as part of the non-question loot that is fine.
The voidpacks contain the following:
> Flintlock Pistol or Shortbow (If no-metal)
> Ammo
> Collapsible Ten Foot Pole
> 2x Lesser Bandage
> 2 flash pellets (Creates flash of light)
> Fireworks for signaling
> Torches
> Anything else that might have been reasonable for Dr. Smalls to put in a survival pack. Like say, a toothbrush or a basic tool. Blankets, nets, what have you. Nothing that would be obviously more valuable than anything in the above list.

Tratorius continues to bring out packs. Tratorius - The last group didn't come back at all! If they made it to that city room they'll at least be good looting.
Dr. Smalls - I see what he means. Another great question. We're not sure. None of the records of past groups I've unearthed so much as mention an attempt to take the book. I believe some sort of blood oath must be made in the entrance to begin the trials - that might be why.
Kage takes note of the supplies and grabs a metal-free pack. "You sure are prepared for most circumstances..." He said as he pulled out a full tea set, raised an eyebrow, then put it back.

Olus simply shrugs "Nothing in this world lasts that long on the honor system... Perhaps attempting to remove the book is a death sentence, perhaps the reason so many don't live to tell the tale eh?"
Dr. Smalls - I meant the magic ritual sort of blood oath. I believe the dungeon is rife with spirit magics, although I have consider Olus' hypothesis as well. As for the questions of past groups, most involved locating something, figuring out what path to take to achieve some end, or learning some secret that had been kept from them.
Mr. Plum - The most recent memoir was written by a man that asked how to put his life back together and convince his family to forgive him.
Laghairt grabs one of the unmarked survival packs and inspects the 10' collapsible pole.
Laghairt - So this book will answer practically any question we could think to ask it, and even takes into consideration what we actually mean when we ask it? Sounds impossible, but I'm in.
The Ogofta takes the pole and begins to thump it hard against the ground.
Olus slings the pack over his shoulders after loosening the straps to fit his massive girth. "I am also in. I have no particular question in mind, but the adventure will be enough for me... And I'm sure I'll think of something along the way to make it worth my while." He said with a grin.
Mr. Plum gives Kage a confused look as though there is nothing at all odd about bringing a full tea set on a quest. Tratorius roles his eyes as he tosses a pack to his violet-garbed companion.
The pole is quite sturdy.
Dr. Smalls shines a wide grin towards the two Orgafta Dr. Smalls - Ahah, that's the spirit! I had intended to head off first thing tomorrow morning but it would not be amiss if we were to reach the entrance tonight and rest before entering the dungeon itself. How about it?
Mr. Plum - After eating of course.
Dr. Smalls - Of course. If that stew tastes is as good as it smells we may need to convince Miss Wydberg to travel with us more often.
Olus went over to the pot and took a big whiff. "I've never turned down a home cooked meal in my life and I don't intend to break tradition now!" he said with his customary grin. Pharaoh vocalized his agreement with a happy barking like sound.

Allona rolled up the cuffs of her pants and allowed the ointment to be applied to soothe her burning wounds. She eyed the remaining unmarked pack, assuming it hers and was more than happy when she saw her comrades pulling pistols out of they're satchels.
"If your cooking is anything like your other hospitable forms of greeting volunteers, I'm sure were all in for a treat."
Dr. Smalls - I assure you the food isn't going to fight back. The cook used more.. traditional cooking techniques.
Tratorius - We tried using the altar to cook stuff once... awful idea.
Dr. Smalls - But an amusing one! I wager Olus here would have enjoyed the experience.
Mr. Plum enters the wagon and starts talking to someone as the group partakes of the stew. The aroma speaks of beef, potatoes, and various other vegetables cooked with a delightful array of herbs and spices. Tasting the stew proves the aroma to be an honest one, although the stew has a bit of a kick to it.
Dr. Smalls - So, how about it? Is everyone okay with leaving tonight?
