The elf turned to Snake with a sly smile that was somehow unphased by the orochi's distinct looks. "Yes, I am-" Darragh's speech trailed off and his smile faded as he caught Snake's gaze. "Oh, dreadfully sorry. I do not know what came over me... Yes, Darragh is I."
"Violence, wizardry, jibber-jab, so long as you can control yourself and your talents, you will have a place on this voyage." He was careful not to look Snake in the eyes again. "No Elexian has set foot on Alkhum in over half a century. There is no telling what we may encounter."
"What purpose? You come without first learning of our cause? Truly, you are mercenary. Alkhum island had once been an island resort for many of Elexia's noble houses and ruling parties. Elexia being what it was, a political scandal involving the Millerium family was uncovered by the clerics. The fallout followed them to their mansion on Alkhum, where... Oh, I apologize. I doubt you are here for for a query into our city's history. I forget that such cultured aspirations for not for all. The long and short of it is that the island is now under the influence of whichever brigands saw fit to make it their seat, and the nobles would like to have it back."
Snake smirked very slightly at the man's pompous remarks but if he was offended that was the only indication.
Snake - "Clean up it is then... Has there been any contact with the island at all? Any way that they might know we're coming? I prefer t the element of surprise."
The elf lost his composure at the newcomer's sudden arrival, and resorted to pulling a handkerchief from a pocket to dab at the sweat on his brow. "Indeed, we are ambushing bandits. We hope it will be an ambush, at the least. We have had no communication between us and the island, so far as anyone is aware. Or admitting. It is an impossible job to convince any of the families and parties to surrender what secret knowledge they might have."
"Our primary sources are maps. Outdated, unfortunately, but that is all we have aside from piracy reports. We will discuss our intelligence and course of action in two days, when we will hold council with all of our numbers before setting sail." Darragh produced a pair of modest purses and handed one to each of the adventurers. "Here is sufficient gold to pay for lodging and food until that time. Assuming you find a modest lodge, of course."
**A disheveled beast of a man steady approaches the group, staring deep into Darragh's eyes as he does so. He stops about two yards away before calmly proclaiming-**
Yack - "Joining."
**Another voice, this one asking "Are we going to fight another big snake, papa?", rings out from the young harpy that flies around the group. The landshark at the man's side is silent, at least.**
Darragh's head jerked back as Yack addressed him, his curving brows hinting at what thoughts were passing through his mind. Without a word, he pulled out a purse and made a point to toss it to the sentinel rather than hand it over.
**He catches the purse and slides it away. After a moment's pause he calls the harpy to him with a particularly loud clattering of his finger-claws, waiting for her to fly over to him before turning towards the city.**
Darragh's smile suddenly appeared much more natural. "That would be greatly appreciated. Although, it would be best if I were not to learn where this information has come from..."
Not long after Snake had left the docks, a young Kindir man wearing a dark cloak walked forward to Darragh. Behind him stood a strange beast that was very similar to the Giant Gila of the young man's home in the Alogean's. The creature's red eyes stared straight at Darragh and the white fur along its neck, spine, and front legs seemed to be standing on end in contrast to its flat black scales.
Approaching a short distance behind the creature and its master was a wild-haired man dressed in a silver coat and spectacles, and enforcer's sigil clipped to the garment's large collar.
Darragh tensed as Falthor first approached, but sighed in relief as he noticed the sigil at his collar. "You are here for Alkhum mission as well, I hope?"
"Yes, it..." The elf narrowed his eyes. "It has been a ruin in the hands of villains for more than fifty years. You must have visited some other isle. My'kurr, perhaps. They are not easy to confuse, but I can understand how the common stock may make the mistake."
Snake - "I've heard you're looking for those with a gift for violence."

Odd - You still in need of mercenaries?
Come on and check it out. You know you want to.
Falthor- Alkhum was a beautiful island. Can't have it destroyed by criminals.
Falthor- My mistake. Still, can't be letting them continue on unchecked.
