In the dark heart of Sylvan, there stands tall a building that was once a symbol for faith, comfort, and reaching out to your fellow citizens in a time of need. Now, thanks to the influence of one Count Thomas Tesla, this rectory has been repurposed and now represents, to most people, the unfeeling march of progress, cold industry, a faceless organization bent on achieving its whims without care to cost.
The rectory is surrounded by metal poles and wires, and constantly shines from inside and out with electrical power, and artificial light. Several extremely tall poles stand at the top, often attracting lightning to the annoyance of nearby citizens.
No one replied because the quirky girl was all alone. The only reply was zappy noises as arcs of electricity jumped freely from tremendous metal cylinders attached to the walls, ceiling, and floor, in places where the pews had been intermittently ripped out.
(but keep investigating, Tesla is in here somewhere)
And a quite small person of indeterminate gender comes up behind her rather swiftly, looking at the building in wonder. More interested in that than his task here... For the moment, at least. Then he casts around for someone to talk to, to sign up for this job. Given that this area seems to be empty... He looks up. Hrm. Staircases or something? Lightning comes from up, right?
It's quite lucky that Nes is quite short. The blade whizzes over his head harmlessly. Nes himself didn't so much as flinch. He had been looking at the staircase.
After a second or so he glances over at the blade-wielding maniac, registers what just happened, and idly comments, "You should be careful with those, you could hurt somebody." And then heads for the staircase to go upstairs.
At the mezzanine, he stops and starts to look around. Hrm.
"I don't know much about the machinists... But I hear lightning hits the highest point anywhere around, and it looks like they like lightning here. So I'd assume anyone working here would want to be high up."
Soon, the duo reached the top of the stairs, adjacent to a tremendous bell circled in lengths of copper wire. As the duo passed the bell, they soon entered what could only be a laboratory, what with the chemical mixtures bubbling in beakers, the low fog, the large instruments, and quite clearly a cadaver on a slab in the very center, hooked up to an array of wires.
The shabbily dressed gentleman at the control panel took his hands off the controls when he saw the people, and rushed to the slab, covering the corpse with a sheet.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!?!" he screamed, "THIS IS PRIVATE PROPERTY!!!"
The man, wearing overlarge goggles and dressed in a white coat over what was apparently a tuxedo that may never have been removed in years, visibly relaxed.
"Yes. Yes I did ask for assistance in that dreadful Papyrus. Indeed. Pardon my rudeness, I am not accustomed to visitors. I am Count Thomas Tesla, and I do require someone to tend to a matter at my estate. Come, this way."
The Count walked briskly to Nes' left, and stepped outside of the building onto some rafters.
There's a raised eyebrow over the eyes that follow Tesla. Slowly shaking his head before he follows along with the eccentric. Somehow, this job doesn't seem like such a good idea. Especially when they start walking onto rafters.
"One would hope that we're at no risk for lightning out here. Open. Exposed as we are."
"Don't be foolish! We are at no risk whatsoever!" announced Tesla, as he was illuminated by a straybolt of electricity from the roof to the railing. he continued as though he didn't notice. "You'll need this equipment!" Tesla continued to a barely together shack on the roof, and fiddled with some large metal keys in the lock to open it. Once inside, he produced two bulky metal pieces of equipment, with straps so they could be harnessed on the back.
"Just the one! I think there's been a cross-geographical transference divergence event, causing a deceased pirate to appear in my mansion. I need you to vacuum it up using these spectral encapsulation devices!"
Amaya studies the device to hopefully learn a bit about it. Her eyes jumping around the intricate work, not too pretty but the do dads go to the he haws and such, which is fascinating to a girl like Amaya. Then she grabs the other hunk of metal and pulls out her tools. installing a set of makeshift wheels for her new comrade since he would have a hard time carrying it.
"better?" she said as she offered the slightly modified contraption to Nes
"Oh come on, it's not that bad..." Jebidiah said as he half dragged Voli towards the building. As they arrived they caught sight of the people on the roof with the contraptions thanks to the lightning that kept striking there. "Tesla isn't that bad of a guy...just a little odd and very dedicated to his studies." He said thinking back on what he knew of the Sylvan leader of the machinists...
All the while he was half dragging half carrying Voli up to where they were on the rafters, ignoring Voli's protestations. "Hi there! I hear you need some help with a ghost and some tests?"
