Theron took one his sturdiest picks and wedged it in next to the loose brick. Using his finger tips and a little leverage from the pick, the thief did his best to pull the brick free from the wall.
The wall in front of him creaked softly and twisted on a center pivot revealing a pitch black corridor with stairs leading down. There was a lever on the other side.
Well, that definitely bears in investigating. Theron stepped inside and pulled the lever, before summoning a blazing aura of light around his hands in order to cast light into the darkness.
The wall slid back into place leaving Theron alone in the hallway. There was a thick layer of dust coating the stairs and railings. It appeared to be an old servants passage, but it was clear it hadn't seen much use in years.
Remembering the path he took to get here, Theron moved forward, trying to confirm that the path lead towards the house. If he felt that it did he continued onwards. The guard unconscious outside would point to an external breach so if he was caught, this passage might save his life.
Theron pushed himself close to the wall, listening out for any signs of movement or conversation. He then pulled back and gave the wall a quick thermal scan. If all seemed clear he pulled the lever.
He heard some distant noise but his thermal vision didn't show anything. upon pulling the lever, the wall in front of him pivoted like the one in the guest house opening into what appeared to be a janitor's closet. there were brooms and mops scattered about. The one door in the room was closed.
If he need to use this exit it would likely be in at least a little hurry. Instead of using the crank to close the passage he instead moved the mops about so that they naturally drew the eye towards the front of the cupboard rather than the back, making a point to rest one of them so that if the door were opened hastily, it would fall out.
With that done, Theron quietly opened the door and snuck out into what he assumed would be a main hallway of some sort.
The door did in fact open into an empty hallway, he could go right towards the back of the house or left towards the front. There were doors all along the hallway in either direction.
Theron closed the door slowly behind him then ducked down and tucked a fake coin under one corner of the door, just barely visible when one was looking for it. If he was in a hurry he should be able to see the coin but it was hopefully not so obvious that it would draw the attention of anyone passing by.
Theron headed right, trying to determine if there were any stairs heading up nearby.
The room he entered seemed to be a guest bedroom that was luckily uninhabited. He heard the heavy footsteps pass his door and continue on down the hallway.
The hallway opened into a small sitting room. There was a small closet to his left. And around the corner he could see that the only other door led to the entryway.
The small closet held a few fine coats, the small heat source came from behind the coats, it was probably a button, but he would have to step inside to reach it.
