Winter Festival has come! Though the chill is biting the festivities are exciting! Be you peasant or mage you are sure to have a grand time in the stands of the Arena. Festival is the time honored tradition of the Houses gathering all of their mages for an honorable tournament designed to simply test each other.
Everyone knows that Festival is intended for the mages and their honorable combat. Knowing this doesn't stop the peasants and occasional merchants from betting on the outcomes. Some frown on this gambling but everyone enjoys the Arena matches. Especially the peasants as they have their favorites among the Houses and are always excited to see what new spells their champions have learned since the last Festival.
Even though the Arena tournament in the Festival is a testing of skill and honor, the House leaders still like to give their mages incentives for doing well by offering gems. Some of the leaders do this in hopes of showing their strength to the other Houses. Other House leaders provide this reward to their own simply to draw out the potential in their mages.
Regardless the reasons the rewards always draw the best and unfortunately the worst in some of the mages. The result is a spectacular Festival for all of Estark and the surrounding towns to talk about until the next Festival comes!

What is Festival?
A: Festival is an event we, the WPLs, want to give to the players. Everyone likes the Arena aspect of the project. Recent attempts at a massive tournament have failed though. So the Festival is our event that everyone can participate in.
Wait I can participate in Festival even if I'm on a quest!?
A: Yes, this is because of the way our project works. Events are always happening at different times with quests and we have no in game time. Festival is a planned event that every character is aware of in game. So what's happening is that when your character returns from their most recent quest their in game time becomes the events that transpire during Festival.
What? Time travel?
A: Sort of. The smoothest way we could come up with to include this event for everyone to enjoy was to say, "Okay, Festival is happening at this date in game. Every quest that ends will be ending at the start of Festival with in game time. All the events that transpire in Festival happen before any of the events that take place after you return to Estark from your quest."
Whaaaa!?! I'm still confused! A: Okay. That's understandable so here is an example, Bunny is a player character. Bunny is out on a quest. Festival is happening. Bunny continues questing in the main project forum. But Festival is an event happening at a certain point of in game time. So Bunny will be there for Festival when he returns to Estark from the quest. This makes Bunny happy because he gets to participate in the Festival. Hip hip hooray for Bunny! Bunny role plays in his quest and the Festival event. Bunny happens to finish the Festival before his quest. Bunny is awesome like that. Bunny has all of his rewards from Festival but he doesn't get them yet until he finishes his current quest! Guess what happened? Bunny finished his quest! Bunny collects his quest rewards and heads back to Estark where the Festival events occur and he collects his Festival rewards. Hooray for Bunny! Now Bunny gets to pick up in the main forums of Estark as Festival has passed. Bunny is cool that way.
Yeah we know Bunny is amazing but when do I get my fat loot?
A: ...
After you finish your quest and your real time for your character catches up to your Festival character.
Your character time line is: Quest character -> Festival Event Character -> Active Character in Estark.
That's a nifty trick and all but what if I'm not on a quest? A: Then events in the Estark forum switch to the Festival forum for you. The Festival becomes Estark's in game time until the event is over. If you're already in Estark when the Event starts then Festival is occurring as a real time event for you!
I still have some questions that don't seem to be answered here, or your silly questions and answers have only confused me more! What should I do?
A: Use the discussion thread! We'll be happy to explain it for you!

Eligible characters are those that were defeated in combat, have excellent role playing, and did the best they could with the satchel they have. This one may be given out to multiple players. Though your fans may have lost a little coin from your last match they were able to scrape enough together to buy you a common full cast gem from Standard.

Festival Arena Tournament layout:
Satchels will be locked in at the start of the actual tournament. There is a registration period at your respective tent where you must register to participate. Festival is an event that occurs in game time during a couple days. Because this is an event that everyone plans for it takes place in the future as a Holiday that everyone is in Estark for. Due to the nature of this event and satchels being locked in you cannot go to Frankies to sell part of your satchel for new spells. However sideboards are available to your character from the Houses. This does mean that whatever gold you have at the time can be used for purchasing spells, scrolls, and items for use in the tournament. You must however make these changes before you register and any changes will effect your character after the event has passed.
Arena Matches will be single elimination. Sideboard and satchel changes will be locked in at the start of the tournament. We will place notices for the satchel lock in by giving a date in the House tents/Registration tents.
-----
Experience from this Event:
For each match, defeating a mage of equal or lower level than you grants you .5 experience. Defeating a mage of a higher level grants you 1 experience. Losing does not effect your experience.
This is a special event designed to teach every mage about their own strengths and weaknesses. Because of this every character will receive 1 experience point when they are knocked out of the tournament. Yes, this means whoever comes in first will not receive this bonus experience. This is because they will have already earned their experience through their victories.
Again, rewards including experience are not available to your character until they return from their quests to Estark. This is due to Festival having not happened for the character yet. If you're already in Estark when the Festival occurs then you get all of your rewards immediately.
-----
That should be everything. If you have any questions then please ask them in the discussion thread!
Remember- When you role play in the tent of your house or your cause to register there. When you register you must send a PM with the final state of your satchel for the tournament to be locked in. The subject of the PM should be in this form:
-----
Satchel Lock-In/Registration is currently planned for 12/17. You have by then to register and sign up for the tournament.
Strict posting will be enforced for these Arena matches due to the sheer size of this tournament. Must post every day when you are in a match. Two days can be acceptable more needs approval ahead of time. The idea is to hopefully finish the Festival Arena Tournament by the end of January. Undoubtedly cases will arise where we need to manage this but please let's try and keep this flowing. Thanks in advance!

Edit - 12/18/09 - I completely forgot to post the Tournament Match details:
* Starting life totals will be 20. Healers are on stand-by in case mages are too stubborn to acknowledge defeat before the finishing blow would land.
* Life cap is 30.
* Satchels will have time to recharge in between matches.
* Again, death matches are allowed but strongly discouraged and will be vetoed if there is no character reason behind the two players agreeing to the death match. Shouldn't need to be said as there aren't that many cases where I could even see two mages wanting a death match.
