Wynn walks in, slightly shivering. She didn't like the weather, but she would survive. With a small bow to her opponent, the girl started preparing her mind and body for the upcoming battle

Wynn lets her body relax as she draws mana from the surroundings, but its effects are changed, pervaded by the frosty air enveloping them. The mana it contained still worked as normal, as the Senator let the warm energy sweep about her body before coalecsing into a wolf. With a burst of thought, the girl took a ring off one finger and channeled energy into it, revealing an ornate staff, green crystal pulsing with energy.

Dodaer returns the bow out of respect. Unaffected by his surroundings, Dodaer calls mana to him, mana that is not shaped by the cold. A dark aura appears around Dodaer. The aura dwindles as Dodaer makes a rising motion with his hand. At the same time, a dark blob rises up from the ground and dissipates leaving behind a small undead goblin. Dodaer brings out his dagger and waits to recharge.
Wynn frowns as she sees the zombiefied goblin, she's been around long enough to know that's bad news. Still, she summons more mana and summons a brilliant knight, its armor gleaming. If the other mage didn't have any other tricks, this could be an easy fight.

If Dodaer was feeling any worry, he didn't show it in his motions. Dodaer's aura grows. A faint image of a shadow can be seen appearing on the arena floor. The shadow squirms a bit and then shoots straight toward Wynn.
Wynn holds up her staff and calls up a gust of wind, her magic forming it into a blade that slices through the spirit, but not until after it had struck her. It was only a glancing blow, so she shrugged it off as she drew more mana, this one a frozen orb of ice. She needed a plan, and she figured she had one.
Grasping at the air above her, the girl's hands were enveloped in a warm light, granting her another sensation of soothing warmth as she collected her thoughts. a beam of light blasted the goblin, although the detritus remained engulfed and suffocated her wolf. She saw it coming though, and summoned an airborne griffen while directing her knight to charge in.

Shrugging off the attack, Dodaer regains his footing. This is looking bleak... Dodaer's aura grows, its prescence obvious now. Dodaer shapes the mana with one hand. Thin, black lines shot from Dodaer's outstretched hand and connected with Wynn's head. Using the connection, Dodaer took the oppurtunity to peer into Wynn's immediate mind, searched through her thoughts and spells, and found the one that had decimated his goblin. Dodaer allowed the mana strings to seep into Wynn's mind and attach to the spells and forcefully ripped them out of her memory. He knew she would get them back, but not before the end of this battle. With that deed done, Dodaer summoned another shadow to his side. This one however, didn't immediately shoot towards Wynn.
Wynn wasn't expecting that kind of magic. Her mind and body screamed in agony as the spell was forcibly ripped from her mind. She was panting as she returned to the present...but she knew that she had to win this. She had the advantage, she needed to press it. Summoning a soft, warming breeze, the girl took a step back and relaxed. With a nod to the judge that she was still able to continue, she took a step back forward.
That shade would be problematic, she figured. It was weak, but she had nothing that could block it from attacking her. So she'd have to outrace them, and she had a few ideas as to how.
Drawing another orb of hail, Wynn takes out her signet necklace and channels mana into it, enough so that she could use the ingrained mana it contained for any number of things. Any more spellcasting would wait until after her opponent had made a move, but she sent her summons to attack, both out of reach of the shade.

OOC: Dear god I'm screwed.
IC: Dodaer took the hit. It was only a matter of time before he started to bleed and he knew it. He also knew, from the brief moment inside Wynn's head, that he had little chance in the match. I'll see her next move first... After that...we'll see..."You know, from those spells you know, it appears you like to have things under control. I never get to hear opinions from someone like that. What do you think of magic? Is it just a tool to you? These creatures, are they there simply to do your bidding?" Dodaer started off on a train of thought, trying to whip up a conversation about possibly the only thing they had in common. As he spoke, Dodaer whipped up more mana and darkened his aura. "I always have treated it as a tool." Dodaer threw his dagger with precision straight at the griffin. After observing it as it hit him, Dodaer had found its weak point. The dagger ripped right through the griffin and, with the help of some dark magic, returned to Dodaer's hand. "Sometimes, however, I wonder if I should instead treat it with reverance. Would you care to share your thoughts?" While making up small talk, Dodaer endowed his shadow with dark energy, causing it to grow. The now enlarged shadow hurtled itself straight towards Wynn.
OOC: I took a guess at what you'd do in response to these actions and role played accordingly, but there are actually a couple of choices you could do, and for the record, all the events will stay the same (meaning even if you don't do what I think you'll do, I'm still attacking and playing all those spells, etc.)

Sig credited to my basic GIMP skills.
There's something about a homemade avvy that makes you feel proud no matter how much it sucks.
Wynn reacts as she launches a bolt of blue magic, sending the dagger back to its owner's waiting hand. She absorbed an attack from the shadowy spirit but knew she was still in control. And then...conversation. So the man wasn't as corrupted by his own mana as she would have thought. That was good, so she answered his question as well as she could.
"Magic is what you make of it. My magic is suited for negotiations, not wars and destruction. That's not to say I can't hold my own, but I prefer peaceful discussion over barbaric destruction. I think magic is not to be feared or revered as much as respected. Does that answer your question?"
Back to the fight, Wynn knew what needed to be done, so she just went and did so. More mana was gathered and her creatures charged again, but the blows were ablated and broad hits as opposed to stabs and raking claws. She didn't see a need for bloodshed if it could be avoided, the man was certainly reasonable and not terribly threatening. She saw that now, he acted how he did because he wanted to win. No malice, no deathlust, just determination. And she could respect that, so she would try to end this as peacably as possible.
"We both know it's only a matter of time before my magic overwhelms yours. You've been a good challenge, and I don't want to see you more injured than you already are. Please yield and we can go our seperate ways."

Wynn released her mana bonds and thanked both the judge and her opponent for the match. After which, she caught up with the man and pulled him over to one side.
"Listen...I can tell that you're a bit new, so here's some friendly advice: Find a theme and plan the spells you wish to learn around that. You were trying to do several entirely different things at once and they didn't work well. I'm only trying to do two things: keep my creatures out of reach, and [card=cancel]keep me protected from the most dangerous spells I face. Focus doing 1 or 2 things well, instead of doing 5 or 6 things poorly."
She looked at the man, smiling kindly as she left. Even though she wasn't badly wounded, there was nothing wrong with resting before her next match...

The judge quickly signalled Wynn as the winner before moving to report the match.
Wynn gains .5 exp for winning to be awarded when Wynn returns to Estark. Dodaer gains 1 exp to be awarded when he returns to Estark for participating in the Festival.

IC: Well, I guess she isn't easily distracted... I guess this means my arena losing streak is yet to be broken...
"That was a thorough enough answer. Thank you for your opinion."
As the creatures swiped at him, he noticed they weren't out for blood. Hmm, maybe that little chat wasn't wasted...
"I was thinking the same thing. We might as well not waste any more time, huh?"
