From a completely character-only based standpoint, I'd say this is merely supposed to be an exhibition of the power that you may be needing to face as the story progresses. The only way you'd die is if you did something completely stupid. What that is... I'm assuming that's up to gfx.
EDIT: For clarification, I don't think that's happened quite yet.

After discussing some things with qfx, the following addendum will be placed in the rules:
You may encounter some spells over the course of some quests that are not specifically placed in multi-use gems. Some spells will only be able to be used once, and then disappear forever, and some gems may only be used a certain number of times per combat (as opposed to the 4-of gems that everyone has right now). These will be clearly marked when discovered. Spells that may only be used once and then disappear hereafter are given the official term "scrolls". Scrolls and all other such gems take up a normal slot in a satchel.

While you were talking about ripple it reminded me of a few other coldsnap cards, namely Sound the Call, Kjeldoran War Cry, Feast of Flesh, Rune Snag, and Rite of Flame. Rite of Flame seems the most abusable since by your rules it sounds like you can generate RRRRRRRRRRR on turn one and then Blaze for 10.
K once Falnir and company gets back from their mission (pending that they actually survive or at the very least don't kill each other) I am wondering if there would be 2 other people who would be game for a 2 on 2 arena battle you know like the 2 headed giant format. Let me know.

Q4E. I tried to exploit a loophole, bit now it looks like I'm gonna have to rely on a d20 roll or a "scroll" that Aragus intro'd.
aura of silence of tempest of light is what I'd need with the cantrip, so I'm not liking the odds...
EDIT: upon checking the gatherer, I'd need a 10 or 15 for tempest and aura, repsectivly. also, 18 (paladin en-vec with pro-red) and 20 (story circle) might be good enough to get us out of the jam. I'm just gonna have to hope for the best...

I've already noticed There is a reason that early on there is a restriction to cards only from Xth. Red spells in the current standard aren't heavily in abundance, and in general I'm trying to figure out what to do about it when we get to Rite of Flame. My guess is you will likely find them either in Lesser Gems or Scrolls. (In fact, this is one of the reasons I introduced such things to the system, after talking to qfx)

Charm_Master don't worry about it. Falnir will probably hate Wynn for quite some time and make sure to settle a score later but personally i have nothing against you. And as Grappler said this early in the game dieing isn't all that tragic.
Oh and before i forget on another note i am floored with the whole attack for 100+ trample damage that Wrath of Dog is doing in his quest. I never realized how dangerous of a combo it was to have mana producing elves and overrun. very nice.

They're not just mana producing elves. They're free Untamed Wilds on a turnly basis for each elf. That's big. To be completely honest, I'm surprised that nothing stopped those elves from producing
It's not broken, but this is what happens when colors can go undisrupted in this game, especially Green.

Just a question. So if someone summons a creature and holds it back can we tell our creatures to attack those held back creatures or do we have to attack the player.

I checked the entire topic but didn't find anything, how do you counter a spell? I just see a situation where Player A casts a couple spells in a row where he wouldn't have played them if the first had been countered. If Player B wants to Cancel his first spell can he say "Rewind back to when you played that first spell as I am countering it with <insert card>"?

Honestly, if this were to happen, I'd expect it to happen only once. If you have a counterspell, the likely thing to happen is that you can roll back and stop the spell from being played. It is fairly rare here that either by the time you CAN counter something, that you'll be countering one of a chain. Once it's established that you have the counter, the player will likely then ask if you wish to counter it, or will notice you won't have the mana open to play the spell when you cast it.
In a sense, I feel this problem will resolve itself, but qfx provides the official ruling.

Question: how do trading of spell gems work? If I have a gem of Shock and my friend has a gem of Raging Goblin for example, could you break up the spell uses? Or does trading of a gem require the whole spell and all of it's uses is traded?
I think I might accidentally refer to Crovax as Lord Vader in one of my posts. That's the vibe I'm getting.

Simple. Both of you PM us with the gem you wish to exchange. You can't split up the casts if it is a full gem, just like you don't want to just cut the thing in half and give it to your partner.

A question has come up about traveling to places, by starting a new thread and asking others to join you on your way from one place to another. Doing this is fine, however please note that doing this so that you can get a land is not the best tactic. As you level up to the point where you can join a Guild. You will be sent on missions to the places named on cards so that you may gain access to them. I say this because while you may have a land that lets you get 2 colors, you Mage doesn't understand how to get the off color mana from the land as they haven't learned how to until you join a Guild and are taught.
Post post up on this thread what lands other then the Pain lands, as those are obvious ones that are wanted, you guys would want to gain access to.
I'm going to assume your talking about me and Fenris right?
Well, I was thinking of getting one or two of the "black" legendary lands like Tomb of Urami, Volrath's Stronghold, Urborg, Urborg, Tomb of Yagmoth, and Lake of the Dead.
I don't know about Fenris though.
I didn't want Duels quite yet... not til Roger joins a guild anyway.
As an update, I'm still in the process of getting some things communicated... can't wait to start running some quests
