I see... Well I guess I know what I'm going to go with then.
Already knew about Gatherer but didn't know it could actually search 10th edition...
With the Advanced Search, you can search for just about any criteria you wish. Just set the filters however you need. (In the case of Xth edition, you'd just set "Tenth Edition" as the Expansion filter you want. If you wanted to expand on that by only selecting certain colors, you could do that as well.)
how does your experience with a color affect your ability to use it? can i not cast spells of any color till level 3 when i learn from a house?
does being an artificer strictly forbid the use of colored mana? or can i gain the ability to use, say, blue and white?
Missed these in my last response.
Initially players start off with being familiar with only one color. That color grants you access to the relevant Houses. You are only able to use spells within your color as well as the mana of your color. This means you cannot cast multicolor spells until level 3 at the earliest which is when you gain another color should you choose to do so.
Joining a house is free. House training simply provides the listed bonus.
Initially being an artificer prohibits you from manipulating colored mana. However there is artificer training which allows you to 'notice' the difference between the colors of mana. Each time you take artificer training you learn how to manipulate two more colors. However that colored mana may only come from artifact sources (In this way an artificer can utilize colored artifacts as well as activated abilities on artifacts that require colored mana).
EDIT: See the rules thread for an announcement concerning the update of character sheets with the WPLs. Thank You

Does this allow the use of colored spells as well? Say, if I chose blue as one of my artificer colors, could I then use Counterspell to protect my artifacts?

Unfortunately not. You will need actual training in the color to utilize the colored spells that are not artifacts.
This allows an artificer to gain all 5 colors by level 9 (four of the colors are for artifacts only and 1 is for all of that color. This is done through artificer specialization two times and training in a color one time at levels 3, 6, and 9. Though the training could be done in any order say, artificer specialization, color training, and then artificer specialization to finish up for the last two colors).
Definitely a balance, I think. It makes sense, considering I doubt you want everyone running around with all five colors at half the speed of the traditional methods (Yolin/etc.).
Now I'm torn, though, between two directions - either the artificer's route to gain access to the mana for things like Cranial Plating, or the color route to gain access to blue (probably by far the strongest color in this RPG, I'd imagine, since full access to every card in your satchel at any time strongly favors control players). Shucks.
Also, a random question - do we have any plans towards unlocking any of the other sets anytime soon? Or if not, are "player-created" quests allowed to help facilitate these unlockings? The main reason why I ask is because there are several cards I'd really like to get my hands on in M11 and Scars of Mirrodin, and I'm sure others have their own sets they've been eyeing.
I imagine when the revitalization project is somewhat closed and finished, we could approach this topic...? I don't really mind running one if it's a matter of being short on manpower. Not really in a rush for it, but it seems like if we still haven't unlocked M11, we're a little bit behind in terms of keeping up with the times...:p (Which I guess makes sense, since this is a slow-paced RPG anyways, but still.)
Red is highly dangerous as well for burn reasons. I know black can pull some nasty stuff, and green has a stupidly high level of land-acceleration. I'm not too sure on what white's good at in this.
You may wish to take a look at the planes the quest threads are on.
Here's the link to the limitations for player-made quests.

I take it some of them have some of the expansions? Heh. I didn't read them indepth yet, but I'll take a closer look.
Also, I feel stupid for not noticing the "Guild Entry, ..., unlocking Expansion quests only by WPLs" segment. I swear, I do read things, but I miss some of the most obvious things. >.<
working on my character xD, hard to come up with a backstory i haven't used in an rp before :/, hard to decide between mature or slightly insane...
i think ima stick with artifacts xD, cus they're cool xD.
though making a burn deck in this format is highly, highly tempting
I'd like to see a mature character if you're going the artificer route. I find insane characters are entertaining for awhile, but then they tend to get boring. That's just me though.
I will note that there have been interesting results with an insane character, which may or may not have included other characters wanting to kill them.
Just chiming in on my end on what will be going on with characters that aren't already in the four major threads. I've been waiting since the 8th to finalize my purchase with no reply...:3 I know, the RPG goes slow and all, but since I've seen consistent updates in the RP threads, I didn't know if my waiting was due to a certain purpose (if Saffi's busy keeping the portals open, for example, and there's no one else to attend to the shop) or if something else was going on (say, no quest threads for newer players).
Don't mean to be a pest, just curious about happenings.

Sorry, I've been in hotels with 14 hour days for the past two weeks. I also have a lot of stuff that needs doing now that I'm back, and I'll get to my backlog as I can.
This is primarily because I've been the main person in charge of new characters and things like that.
I'm alive. I've simply been overwhelmed with my studies at the moment. Currently I'm planning a unit of instruction on Viruses and Bacteria with Exponential & Logarithmic functions as well as a week long project focusing around blood splatter. Next week I have three Upper Level math tests. I may only be able to update 2-3 times a week now, most likely on Friday and Saturday with a random weekday from time to time.
Just curious if there's still been any word on us newer players yet...I have no problems with waiting; just curious if we're in limbo until the threads finish or there'll be anything to tide us over mini-quest wise while the new quests are finishing up.
Or if this place is just on its last legs...which would be very sad indeed This RPG seems fun as $%#@.
