Some people treat certain summons as if they were pets...others throw them in front of oncoming Big Bad Nasties as the poor little things protest. It's a matter of preference.
I could possibly see a character making such a friend through RP, but I don't think it should be something just anyone can grab as a matter of course.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

I don't like either options for the familiar or the mount. But that's just me.
I gotta agree here. Especially since as it's posed at this time, Red and Blue gain access to free spells. To be frank, the LAST thing either needs is to be further unbalanced.
Mayhaps at a higher level, say 7ish, a player may choose a single card from outside the current format to add to his satchel. Sort of like a customization option. I know in PC we discusses custom cards but what about this. At level 7 and every 3 levels after that. Provided the card meets WPL approval.

I'll support it being made Legacy.
That means that you'll have to be level 9+ to access it. You have to choose it as one of your sets before you can access it (kicking the minimum up to level 10) and you'll have to quest for it.
And I get to write the quest.

I think it'd be a fun quest, I'd do it in some sort of alternate forum for kicks.
Lyre's bazaar quest to Alternate dominaria.
It'd be all twilight zoney and such. (GRAMMAR RULES!)
But in all seriousness, I think that it'd be fun to see someone go on an impossible quest lead by Ti'rin.
I can see it now . . .
The person has to run along a poorly-lit path over a deep chasm. There are swinging blades over the path, and you can only judge where they are by sound . . .
And at the far end, there is an angry red mage with every variant on player-targeting lightning-themed direct-damage spells I can find, and he shoots them at the character.
And that's just one part of the whole thing.

just because I wanted to get the following abilities okayed (I already sent a slew of PM's about them and posted the ideas in my profile under "not officially approved, yet still theoretical ideas") I would like to see what everyone thinks of them:
Draconic Senses: He has the ability (once trained for it) to sense things at a much heightened level. This means he effectively has a perception bonus equal to his level.
Dragon Breath: Prior to training he has the ability to freeze small objects. With a decent amount of training he will have the ability to use his breath as a full fledged weapon. Treated as the same damage as a Incinerate spell with the same mana cost, and also uses one casting. However there is a limit to exactly how much ice he can breath in a given day. He can probably only expel ice a grand total of twice per day without resting his throat.
Limited Flight: With a bit of muscular training, he would be able to gain the power to fly. However he would be unable to carry anyone with him if he were to fly. Additionally he would be unable to fly for longer than perhaps 50 meters multiplied by his level. So it certainly would not be a replacement for transportation based spells of any sort.
Claws: His claws are as sharp as daggers, and effectively as hard as steel. He can use them as weapons if he so wishes. Though he must constantly be filing them (usually on a diamond edged file or granite) in order to keep them at a managable length...
Gliding: Because of his wings, Tharian is capable of catching an thermal updraft, or jumping from incredible heights, and effectively gliding for incredible distances. He can only glide indefinitely if he has caught an thermal updraft. However he can still glide for a relatively long time if he has jumped from at least 200 feet in the sky. He can usually glide for approximately three times the distance that he jumped for, unless he catches an updraft, in which case he can glide for approximately as long as he remains inside the confines of the thermal updraft. He can carry up to 3/4ths his own body weight as well as his clothes, and his satchel. But anything beyond this weight limit will put strain on him and he will be unable to glide.
As I understand it, the last two were kind of approved when my character was approved, just not the nitty gritty details on what gliding actually does for my character... so I wanted to see what everyone has to say regarding this issue. Especially what the WPL's have to say regarding this issue....

No offense to you DC, this is more general and not geared toward you, but I have seen it a few times, and it is starting to annoy me.
Re special abilities, here is the rule I am proposing: Do note that this is not official or else it would be in RLA(Rules list/annoucnements), and I want to see what people think about it.
I would like to ask that we stop letting players choose their special abilities. If they have a suggestion, they can send it to us, but I just want things like "I want to be able to breathe fire" or something. We will craft it and if they deserve it through RPing, they can have the ability. You must learn abilities from a level 10+ mage, so good luck finding one. Finally, if you RP this smartly, I will like it better. (see below) In other words, do not expect to have special abilities. Have no planned special abilities. We will give them to you when necessary.
Ex.
Good:
Dear videojuegos,
My character comes from Bant. I was wondering if there was some way I could get an exalted-like ability for when my creatures attack alone?
Bad;
Dear videojuegos,
My character comes from Grixis. Therefore, I think I should be able to Unearth all my creatures for there casting cost at a one life penalty. I should be limited to once per turn, and 5 times per match. By the way, I'm a level one mage.
Good:
NPC: "Oh, I came from that mage school where they taught use to breath ice."
Player: "Oh, wow, that is cool. Do you think you could take me there sometime. I'd love to learn how to do that"
NPC: "Sure, but first...."
(a side note: don't force it)
Bad:
Gariexix returned from his quest to the volcano, entered his house, found Azusa and asked, 'Could you teach me to summon plants"
So, yeah, dont expect special abilities, but they might come if your lucky. [/rant]
PS: Stop propoing abilities like "I get +2 to stealth rolls in jungles. The Pen and Paper Inn is that way <<<<<
okay... in that case what about the gliding and using his claws as weapons... seeing as how I mentioned those in his character approval request and no one seemed to have a problem with those... will those be a problem? (I will take out the other proposed abilities for now and wait till either approval for those or other abilities comes along) But I would like to know about the abilities I mentioned regarding his very nature that were mentioned in his character creation request.

Claws: Perfectly OK. I would not even call it an ability, I would just put on your profile "Weapon: Claws 1/0" instead of dagger.
Gliding: Due to the fact that a good 30% of quests are based of of traveling great distances, I think it would be an unfair advantage. If you want to be able to glide, you can, but it wouldn't be much faster than walking and your wouldnt be able to go very high. Sorry.

Basically, I do not see his gliding as a means of transportation per say. Except perhaps if he is somehow able to get up into the jet stream's Thermal Updrafts. Only then would he be truely capable of "flight" per say, but seeing as how only true dragons, and angels, and perhaps Sphinxes are able of getting that high, I do not think he will be getting such flight any time soon.
I do see it as his prefered form of transportation, but it is more of a short distance form of transportation than it would be a long distance form of transportation. Basically I view it as working like this: He can only glide a distance equal to the hight above the ground that his gliding starts at... or if he manages to get into a thermal updraft such as those found over mountains or the ocean, he can glide for however long he wants so long as he remains within those thermal updrafts or does not fall asleep in flight... cause he does need to sleep just like a normal human sleeps and thus cannot glide while asleep.
So basically I do not see him gliding exceedingly long distances or gliding any longer than maybe a few hundred feet at a time depending on how high the object he jumps off of happens to be. Seeing as how the only true sky scrapers are in Ravnica, I do not think he will be jumping off of any thousand foot tall buildings any time soon either.
As for speed. I do think the speed of his glides could be considered closer to that of a galloping Horse and still not be too fast, but it is certainly not as fast as say an Ornithopter or even a full fledged Dragon.
So I had this thought that if you were going to join a second guild, would it be possible to join a shard instead. If it would be too much of a hassle for the WPLs to create institutions like that I can see, but just a thought since some of the guilds have opposing ideas but share a common color amongst them.

I had that thought a while ago, but seeing that the third set of the Alara block is called Alara Reborn Five worlds die, one world is reborn, I want to wait to see what happens. Also, it will be a while before anyone is at level 7.
Had this idea bouncing around in my head: The ability to "ground" a flying creature. You can ground or unground a creature only once per turn cycle, unless it has summoning sickness. You can also summon a flying creature in the grounded state. Basically, it reads "This creature can't block creatures with flying. This creature can be blocked by creatures without flying or reach."
It's just a flavor thing, but I think it could have its uses. Plus, it doesn't actually lose flying, so it can be targeted by things that look for "target creature with flying" and it still can't block through a Dust Corona.
It could be a possibility, however the problem is that many creature's with flying gain their strength in combat (Power) from the advantages that flying gives. Do you think it is plausible to see a faerie landing to fight an opponent 10 times as big as itself on the ground without getting a serious disadvantage? For many flying creatures, landing would mean disadvantage to them in combat, which should give them something like -1/-0 or -2/-0 if they are on the ground.
I could possibly see a character making such a friend through RP, but I don't think it should be something just anyone can grab as a matter of course.
That's just my two cents, though.
