"Well, sadly, the best I could do right now, is to see if I can sense any mana that matches the type our enemies used during their assault. If I remember right, I heard that they had used both black and red magics. The main problem that I'll have, is that I won't be able to tell the difference between their mana and that of this place's. My own abilities are currently new to me because of these." As Hróðvitnir says the last sentence he points at the brand on his chest and then the brand on his back, both of which have the appearance a strange runic collar. "But if I am able to pick anything noticeable up, I can definitely use my natural senses to hunt whatever it is down." Once he has finished up his explanation, Hróðvitnir begins to reach out at the realms most basic building blocks, the five forces of magic, and see if he is able to pick out any of them individually.
Hearing his companion's comment, Hróðvitnir replies, "I should still be able separate out a specific energy source if I've been around it for a while, or if its source is close by. So I should be able to separate you out from the rest, hopefully." The wolfir went back to trying to find any sign of red or black mana, excluding Deth's specific connection to the swamps. "I think that it would be best to keep up your connection. We might need it."
As they trek towards the burned section of the forest, it becomes clearer that the destruction isn't as recent as one would think at first glance. It's more recent than the chopped-down trees, but it's still from a while back.
This is corroborated by Hróðvitnir's senses, which gives him a faded impression of red mana from the burned trees, and an even more faded impression of some other type of mana from the chopped-down ones.
Deth doesn't feel any strain yet, though that may be because of the small amount of mana or because of the time. It hasn't been that long yet, after all.
Deth sees the trees are older, and begins to look around for the type of damage a black mage may have done. He looks for corruption in nature, unnatural weakness; signs this place had seen corruption power can make.
He also looks for signs of who could have done it, such as a piece of cloth left behind, or a broken rusty weapon. Just a quick search wont hurt he thinks to himself.

"Hey, Deth and Erin, I've pick up on some old red mana from the burnt section of the forest and another type, older than the red coming from there," as he says the last part Hróðvitnir points toward the chopped trees, "I can't figure out what type though, but I think its safe to say it that it was a mighty powerful force." Hróðvitnir starts to think that he might not be ready for a mission of this magnitude, but he stays calm. "Hey, is it just me or is it really quite? I mean I haven't heard anything other then us, and I've got these." The wolfir points at his ears, both of which move trying to pick up the faintest sounds of anything, but he hears nothing. Hróðvitnir quickly pulls forth an image of a dark tree filled area from his home. As he does, a green rune shaped like the one on his chest appears on his forearm.
OOC: Putting into Play a Forest, if that is okay. Loved the use of eerily quite btw.
Erin's brow furrows as she looks around. It's obvious this is an old problem. This forest had its issues longer ago than their rogue mage. She puts her hand to her forehead and scans around for an idea of where to go. Where this guy may have gone.
Realizing Hróðvitnir has finished his search, deth stops his examination. It wouldn't do to waste any more time then they already had, for the trail could go cold, in the time that was spent walking away from the portal, and then walking back. "How should we continue from here?" Turning to Erin, he asks "Do you happen to know anything about our location?"

Time flys like an arrow. Fruit flys like a banana.
There's not really a hint of where to find her kitsune friends. There's a whole forest to search through, and not much of a hint in the trees. Speaking of the trees, they almost seem to be moving. But no, that can't be right.
The sound of swishing branches is new, however. A sharp contrast to the silence before. That might just make it a more pressing concern than the rogue mage they're hunting.
OOC:Was it cast? and if it was, could we actually detect it?
When deth hears the sound, he is put even further on edge. He draws more power, and his aura darkens a small amount, to where it is now visible in the sunlight. In a dark forest however, hes not sure. He then moves his hand towards his blade, but stops. If whatever is out there is sentient, he doesn't want to provoke it. For the same reason, he refrains from pointing it out to his fellow mages, trusting them to realize the potential danger themselves.
As soon as his ears picked up the sound from above, Hróðvitnir's focus became gathering more strength into himself. As a new rune collar linked with the first appeared on his right forearm, hidden by the edge his cloak, his connection with the forest in his memory strengthened. He began to tense his muscle in feigned stretching, preparing for a possible incoming attack.
Erin tenses as she hears the moving trees. Her ears perk, eyes going wide as she looks around. Almost unbidden does a ball of blue mana roll out of her sleeve and into her hand, to be held and squeezed like a stress ball. Oh dear.
"Defend, but let us not be the first to attack. Unless costumes on this plane dictate otherwise?" Deth directs the last part towards Erin.
He then draws more power to his aura, darkening it to the almost past the point where it cold be mistaken for deep shadows. He then draws his sai, and holds it in a defensive position, across his body.
"Agreed." Hróðvitnir once again began to focus on his old home, adding a new collar to his right arm. Then the Wolfir dropped down into a more feral stance, and were it not for his lack of a tale and monstrous size, he could have easily been mistaken for a normal wolf.
Erin shifts a second ball into her hand, juggled like Chinese Relaxation Balls. Watching the creatures around her. Not sure what she wants to do. She knows they're willing to fight, creatures always are. But...
Those who have not sent an updated satchel to the WPLs should probably do so.
The pulse of mana grows rapidly stronger, and more snakelike forms drop to the grass. If the unknown figure's hostile, this might start to become dangerous. None of them advance, however, seeming content to simply wait.
The snakelike forms are familiar to Erin - she'd seen them when she'd been on the plane before. Just before she'd reached the kitsune village, if she recalls correctly. Weren't those the ones that had been fighting against the pale-skinned humanoids?
"This could get really bad really quickly if we cant stop swarms... I'm bad with swarms, do you guys have anything? We might have to attack, because if we just leave it this could get to big to handle..."
With that, Deth brings forth even more power, darkening his aura further. His aura then pulled in on itself, and then came outward, though it was obvious Deth was trying to lessen his auras reaction, so as not to aggravate their potential foes. As his Aura settles, two bats flop out. He grimaces, not anticipating that attempting to lessen the amplitude would have such affects...
"I must work on my stealth in the future..." he thinks to himself.
"Yeah, if they build up much more of an army, we might be in trouble." As he finished his words, Hróðvitnir drew once again on his memories. His connection with his mana became even more solid, as a fourth rune appeared on his right arm. "I guess it's time to build up some defenses of our own." When he finished his words the runes on his arm lost their light, and three barbaric looking elves jumped out of the trees behind him.
Erin lets a third ball drop from her sleeve, juggling them on one hand. She still doesn't cast anything. Instead, she slowly walks towards the snake-people, arms outstretched. The mana balls are juggled on her tail. Her hands are empty, held up in a sign of peace.

Or it might just be the rogue.
