Mass Effect 3 got into a wrestling match with my free time. Mass Effect 3 won.
Kennar, annoyed at the loss of his vampire, draws in more black shadow into his palm. He mimics the gesture he just completed with both of his hands, extending them forward. Two swirls of fire and shadow form in front of the flamekin, and two more of the crouching female vampires appear.
Kennar watches the orb for a reaction from the other mages' attacks.
In play- 2x Mountain (2x :symtap:)
3x Swamp (1x :symq:)
As the two jets of flame and the bolt of electricity hit the orb, nothing obvious happens. However, after a moment, a small portion of the red and purple light shining from the thing seems to go out. It quickly vanishes as the other light fills in the small gap.
The orb flashes again, and two more goblins appear in front of it.
David was curious, a little annoyed but curious that the attacks on the orbs didn't seem to do much aside from make it flicker a few flights here and there. The new goblins concerned him but he wasn't really feeling threatened at the moment. They seemed minor problems in comparison to the object that was basically summoning them in the first place. Connecting himself to another red leyline, David decided it was time to try something else. Something with a little more kick to it, or at least he hopped it would be a little more kick.
Taking his knife out he decided it was time to do something a little more painful in the spell casting levels. Nothing drastic but since he touched the orb and nothing incinerated him, he figured he'd place something a little bigger on the thing. Cutting his hand a bit he used the blood to draw a series of symbols on the floor under the orb in a circle. When he had finished he turned and looked at each goblin and smiled.
"I wish this would blast you suckers too but sadly I'm not that good yet."
He turned and ran while he counted down in his head from five. Behind him the symbols glowed red, then brighter and brighter until the light resembled a piece of metal glowing white from the intense heat of a forge. Finally the symbols exploded into a beacon of blinding fiery light. After the explosion David looked back to see if the orb was affected in any way.
The relatively innocuous move from the orb caught the viashino off-guard, as did the apparent lack of effect the mages' assault. Perhaps the best chose of action is to simply gather resources, he thought, drawing deeper on the red mana. there must be,some way to funds this orb's weakness.
Tai draw more pure energy to himself, and then took a deep breath. Everyone around him could feel another power building...ancient and relentless. Suddenly, Tai's aura flared brightly, surging with power, rippling to the life giving elf at Tai's side. "There we are..." He said with a slight chuckle.
Zalara feels a little disconcerted as the orb seems to easily shrug off the mages' blasts. Perhaps a good old-fashioned attack will do, then? she thinks as she channels animating force into one of her constructs, sending it in for a charge.
4x Mountain (2 untapped, 2 tapped)
2x Living Obelisk (1 tapped, 1 tapped and attacking)
Deciding that it'd be a bad idea to reveal all his abilities too early, Cyouni thinks back to the last time he and Kennar had fought together. As he brings his hand across in a sweeping gesture, the symbol's light trails behind it, separating to form into a shade.
The fireblade Cyouni holds turns black as it attunes itself to the shade's power.
Mar continues to observe the orb, content for now to wait until his particular strengths are needed. The circle of altered terrain at his feet creeps out a fraction more, And while he keeps a wary wye on the gOblins the orb just summoned, he is not particularly concerned. Not surprising, given the
Many mages present.
Play My fourth godless shrine. I now have 4, 1 tapped.
Erin blinks a little as she sees the attack simply do... nothing. Nothing at all. What is this orb... And how do they defeat it? The kitsune's slightly worried about this, given that... Hrm.
Another orb appears in her hand, but it's not a conscious thing. She glances at her allies. Especially Tai. There's a feeling of power from him that she reaches out to copy... But can't. Her magic can't touch it. Odd...
Kennar joins in the attack. First Kennar extends his hand behind him, and the shadows behind him swirl into the image of a castle, in miniature. He closes his eyes and two of the fires and a portion of the black shadow in his palms fade. In front of the flamekin, fire and shadow swirls into the shape of yet another vampire, this one dressed in fine attire and wielding a sword. Kennar then sends forward one of his female vampires, leaving one back to protect himself if necessary.
OOC: Kennar plays Kher Keep, then summons Vampire Aristocrat, then attacks with one Child of Night
Without any discernable cue from the orb, the two goblins hurl themselves into the path of Kennar's vampire and Zalara's living obelisk. The vampire tears apart the goblin but is killed. The obelisk simply destroys the goblin in the way.
David's powerful blast of flame smashes into the orb, and once more a portion of the light dims, somewhat larger than the ones the smaller spells created. The dim area fades and is replaced by more light after a moment.
The other creatures slash, chop, and assault the orb. Again, nothing happens for a few moments, then the process of fading light again occurs. The light coming from the orb seems to grow slightly less radiant, if only by a small amount.
The orb again flashes, and in front of it, two more goblins suddenly appear. This time, however, something else has appeared. A red haze of magic floats over the orb and its creatures. It seems to be vaguely shaped as a banner or flag of some type. The summoned goblins cheer and slash angrily at the air, then charge.
They hurl themselves at Marr and Soru.
OOC: Orb summons two 1/1 red goblins, casts Orcish Oriflamme, then sends one goblin at each Soru and Marr.
Cyouni raises the fireblade and points it at the orb. The shade leaps forward, its shape distorting in growth as it charges at the orb. Its attack is followed up by a strike from the fireblade, drawing on the shade's power.
Cyouni flicks the cloak towards the shade, and it settles around the shade's shoulders, shrouding it from view. Pointing the fireblade at the orb, the mage sends the shade on its way, his mana boosting its strength.
David watches the goblin's and the orb's reactions. His attacked seemed to have done something, but not enough to make the orb docile. He was really tired of nothing actually affecting the orb in a more possible manner. He was grateful that this new wave of goblins haven't targeted him just yet but it seemed like the others were having just as tough a time dealing with them.
"Everyone who isn't fighting a goblin, if you can hear me and your able to attack, a combined strike from all of us might be able to take this thing down. Individual attacks don't really do much against it, however maybe something with a little more kick from all of us at once might be able to do something more productive. If you all have a way to exert a large amount of mana and be able to deal something that's devastating enough, point it at that orb. If it's enough we might be able to at least make it docile."
David connected himself to one more leyline but kept himself on the defensive.
"One more time!" Zalara calls as she wills life into the stone again. Performing a quick ritual to draw on the red leyline, she then summons a humanoid formed of the essence of lightning, sending it alongside on the attack.
5x Mountain (all tapped)
2x Living Obelisk (1 tapped, 1 tapped and attacking)
His aura crackling with power, Tai surged with more verdant power. First, a dim glow appeared from the lantern, beckoning a lost soul back to this world. Then with a flash of Aether, a regal soldier appeared, flanked by two Elves, and three plain looking soldiers. "A little time, and I will be able to join the offensive in earnest." He replied. Once more, Tai prepared for the attack...
Was hoping a few more of our characters would show up.
Erin glances around at the few around her. It looks like she may not actually have anything to work off o-- wait a second. She looks over at Tai for a moment. Then at his Captain of the Watch. THAT will work just fine, thank you. The mime follows his movements step by step with the summoning. Whatever it is he does. And as soon as his Captain comes out... She has one too. Complete with the complement of soldiers.
Mar, seeing one goblin obliterated by an obelisk and the other fall to the undead, took his eyes off the orb to instead evaluate once more what his role in this combat should be. As such, he wasn't paying too much attention to the new goblins' cheers, and was blindsided by the attack. Rather annoyed at letting himself fall vulnerable, he still managed to crack his assailant's head with his staff, but in the moments he took to recover from his shock he decided he should perhaps take a more active role.
Deciding this, he reached into his pack momentarily, and called upon a thread leading from one of the rocks inside, a thread that pierced the Blind Eternities and opened a conduit. Mar allowed himself a small smile at the hole that appeared before him. A fraction of a second later, an insistent wail burst forth from the representation of the well. Another fraction of a second, and an angel clad for battle sprung up and out of the well, coming to a hover just above and to the right of Mar.
And then, never one to shy away from potentially beneficial situations, Mar tosses a quick request out to the clearly experienced man with the soldiers. "I don't suppose you'd mind helping me out with that lantern of yours if that thing hexes my angel?"
Take the hit, then counterattack with melee for 1 to kill my attacker.
