As the unpleasant sensation washed over him, Flame-Tongue pondered the auspicious timing of his arrival. Looking to the mages he had seen in house Hammerhiem, he noted they seemed to be similarly affected, and followed their example, drawing on additional mana. The burning of the mana was painful, but he was almost grateful for its warmth, so long had he been away from the desert's sun.
Zalara's head begins to pound, and she staggers backward, toward the edge of the ruin. Looking around at the other mages similarly affected, she realizes that they have been drawing on the red leyline as well. She reaches out to a less volatile source of magical energy.
The red and black mages around Soru seem heavily affected by the increase in the rumbling. Calm and collected Soru taps deeper in the blue mana flow and calls forth an elemental
Somehow, the rumbling is still growing stronger. It's turning into what feels like a minor earthquake. The ground rumbles and pieces of the ruin of Shimia are flung around at random. The epicenter of the quake, where the rubble is actively flying through the air, appears to be the area where the front door of Shimia might have once stood.
What's worse, the magical pressure grows even more intense for every mage present. It's as thought someone was putting pressure on the inside of their bones and their mana is going to burst right through the skin. The red and black mages are in a state of near physical agony. Their mana feels as though it is cooking them from the inside out, but without doing it quickly enough to end their suffering.
Kennar takes several steps backward, hoping to relieve the world-rending agony of his mana. It doesn't help, and the flamekin drops to one knee, very nearly losing consciousness under the stress of both red and black mana.
The flamekin glares hatefully forward at nothing in particular, and his mouth curls into a snarl of defiance.
He extends his right hand to the side, parallel to the rumbling ground, and a second blazing ruby flame bursts to life as he channels more red mana.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
The mime, usually so good at keeping her composure, almost has none at this point. She's almost dancing on the spot, trying to figure out where to be to stop the pain. Her mana seems to be taking care of itself, bouncing in her hand without her hands really moving. A third one adds itself to the show. Two then dim, and a protector finds himself next to Erin. She wishes it were a friend instead of a protector.
Both of Cyouni's hands tighten. His left looks as though he's trying to hold his head from splitting from the pain, while his right hand clenches the dagger like a lifeline, knuckles growing white as the grip grows tighter and tighter. His breathing's strained, just short of gasping for breath.
His stance falters, and the dagger comes down to rest on his right thigh. The one eye that can be seen from around his hand stares at the ground as Cyouni hunches over. A stone slams into the mage's leg, but he hardly notices, his thoughts turned inwards to deny the pain.
The symbol brightens, and Cyouni's legs almost buckle as additional pain sears through his body.
The undead mage reeled back as he felt the strange surge of magic. Feeling much like a nasty headache, he retreated away from the ruins. Growling as he channeled the magic and brought forth a small bat.
Settling into a crouch, Flame Tongue pulled his body inward, more concerned by the flying debris than the pain wracking his body. Letting out a hiss rendered inaudible by the rumbling of the earth, he drew upon further reserves of mana.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
As the rumbling strengthened, Vorin shut his eyes, fell down to one knee, and suddenly lost awareness of what was going on around him. His arms and legs were aching and no matter what he did, the pain would not stop. However, he had to be able to defend himself. Without moving, he gathered a connection to an encampment of soldiers he had come across just before arriving at Estark. Though summoning red mana hurt him, it was nothing compared to the pain that the rumbling was causing him.
David felt his blood boiling and he cried out in agony. How was this happening? Mana shouldn't be doing this, it was too raw and unfocused. If he was able to concentrate he would try to focus but the pain was too much. Regardless of what is happening to him, he needed to push through the pain and try to focus what was around.
Tai left House Benalia, and began his trek to Shimia's...former location. A pit formed in his stomach...who...what could do such a thing? He silently hoped that he was strong enough to face the trials ahead...
I'll let Tai, if he's going to be involved in the current events, draw on 1 land of his choice. Unfortunately, he'll be 2 lands behind everyone else involved in this mysterious happening. Then again, he's easily the most powerful character here, so I'm pretty sure he'll be fine.
As Tai approaches, he sees a group of mages gathered around the rubble of Shimia. They've all got expressions of severe pain on their assorted faces, some (red and black mages, it looks like) have even fallen to their knees, and they are all gathering mana for some reason. The ground is shaking with the intensity of a small earthquake, and the rubble of the ruined House is being tossed through the air.
As Tai gets closer, he suddenly understands their pained expressions. He's hit with a wave of agony. It feels like his mana is going to rip him apart from his core. It's as though his own magic is putting outward pressure on every inch of his insides and trying to force its way through his skin.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
Gritting his teeth, Tai's aura flared a verdant green. He calls forth an elf, whose aura links with his own. He then draws his sword, and charges in to help the fallen mages.
As the searing pain ripples through her body, Zalara closes her eyes and enters a meditative trance. Fire sends a test. This, too, shall be overcome. To succumb now would be to dishonor all the Shamans who came before her.
She draws on the pain itself to summon up a bond with one of the Elementals.
Mar snaps out of the trance he'd fallen into, woken by a strange pain, a pain that he should not be feeling. It... hurts. Never before has Mar been unable to vent excess mana, and this is shocking. So he attempts to ground himself, and the ground immediatly under his feet takes on the ornate tiles of an Orzhova holding.
It doesn't help.
Trying to see through the pain, and more specifically the water forming in his eyes, he does his best to try and see the flow of mana, and see why it it overloading.
But mostly he is reeling from the pain.
Whwlp, I've been distracted. But I'm back now, and Mar is not happy at the pain.
I'll take a land behind, since I think I can deal, and I'll lay down a godless shrine. Tapped.

The rumbling intensifies and for a split-second, the pain is strong enough to kill. Then suddenly, it's gone. The shaking ground, the pain in the bonds of mana, everything. It's eerily quiet.
Then all hell breaks loose.
There's a blinding flare of red and dark violet light, and the ruin of House Shimia explodes outward, sending pieces of stone and gravel raining all over the area.
In the center of the ruin, an orb, surrounded alternatively with fire and shadow, hovers several feet off the ground. The orb is large, perhaps three or four feet in diameter, and the assembled mages get the disturbing feeling it's somehow aware.
The air shimmers around the orb, and suddenly a group of goblins appear in front of it.
They scream in rage, and charge the nearest mages.

After regaining his vision from the light show that exploded in front of him, David noticed the pain was gone. Before he could breathe a sigh of relief he saw a goblin attack him, thankfully, he was ready for this moment and snapped his fingers. One of the leylines became visible and shaped itself into a simple warrior in front of him.
"Show no mercy."

The Vashino glanced from the orb-portal long enough to notice the scarred elf who had guided him to Hammerheim, thrown off-balance, was left open to attack from a goblin. Not wanting to disrupt the balance of favor between them, Flame-Tongue quickly sent a burning pulse of mana towards the aggressor. (1*Shock in declare blockers step, targeting the goblin coming at Vorin)

Seeing the two goblins lunging for the dark mage, Tai lunges forward, thrusting his blade deep into one of his assailant's throat. "I don't think so." He intoned coldly as blood gurgled from the goblin's mouth.
Cyouni's eyes slam shut momentarily at the final blast of pain. Then the pain's suddenly, blissfully, gone. His eyes open again, almost hesitant, and fix on the orb. With the pain gone, the mage straightens, his dagger coming back up just as the goblins appear.
Seeing one of the attackers slain by the paladin, Cyouni's quick to take out the other, accepting the bite of its blade in return for a fatal strike at its heart. Pushing the corpse off his blade, he glances over at the paladin. It's a bit of a surprise to find that his face is familiar. "You...I met you at the Festival, didn't I?"
Blocking the other goblin with the dagger. Life: 19.
