Cyouni approaches the ruin of House Shimia, slightly miffed at the loss of both his room and what he'd stored in it. Then again, he's done without it for a while - it shouldn't be too much of a problem. It's more the principle of it. His hand reaches into his satchel, and he fingers the coin of House Shimia. Wondering if he can get some of it back.
He spots a flamekin kneeling at the front door - no, that's not right. Whatever that is, it bears only the faintest resemblance to a flamekin. The shape, yes. The fact that it's on fire, yes. But that's where the resemblance stops. The tainted flame, the pits and corrosion...still, whatever that is seems vaguely familiar.
Pushing it from his mind, Cyouni starts his own investigation, much like the one he'd made at the cursed house. Then, as now, he had no idea what was going on, and the tactic seems suitable. He looks around, his eyes tracing the flows of mana, looking for any particularly out of place. Well, more out of place than what's already there, given the fact that all five types of mana are simply floating around.
Vorin was shocked to see Tangarth (who he had met before). "I'm sorry to disturb you, but, I was wondering if you knew what became of the black mana aligned house...it's just gone. Many mages have gathered outside, but the guards aren't doing anything, so I figured I should ask one of the house leaders instead of simply sifting through the rubble hopelessly looking for clues"
Vorin suddenly felt really dumb. Obviously Tangarth knew about the house disappearing...he could practically see if out his window, so the last thing he probably needed was Vorin disturbing him. Still, he wanted to be able to help, especially if Hammerheim House needed defending.
OOC: I always imagined the houses right next to each other, correct me if I'm wrong
The spoiler tags are purely for WPL/non-WPL actions. Anything in spoilers will be my WPL actions. Anything involving my character Kennar will be from a player perspective.
It would certainly be less confusing for everyone if anyone who's currently visiting a House or other area and not near Shimia to post in spoilers.
@GM2: They are. They're aligned in color-pie order at the center of the city.
"I don't know what happened to Shimia," Tahngarth says, his tone concerned. "Nobody I've spoken to seems to either. That's where I've sent Fumiko. She's speaking with the other Houses and gathering information. I'd like to have someone on the scene of the destruction. Several someones, if possible. Go back to the rubble of Shimia. If you see any other of our House members, tell them that I want them to investigate the destruction as well. We need all the information we can get. If Shimia was attacked, I want to know who did it..." Tahngarth's face darkens. "So I can tear their spine out personally."
The woman nods to Flame-Tongue. "Alright. First, a simple test: Channel red mana and show me your fire."
Kennar stands from examining the rubble. Evidence of all types of mana, but nothing else. He feels another's eyes on him, and looks around. He spots a familiar figure, and blinks. Cyouni... He used black mana. I bet he is a member of Shimia. It would be wise to speak with him, even if he obviously doesn't know what happened here.
Kennar walks over to the black mage, stopping a few feet away. "Hello, Cyouni. It's been a while. Not since the cursed mansion, I think." Kennar's voice is different from the last time Cyouni heard it. Kennar speaks with less fire and passion as he once did. The old tone has been replaced with an icy edge and an undertone of what could be either arrogance or confidence, something that Kennar certainly didn't have before.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
Zalara lets out a sigh and leans against a wall of the ruin. Whoever - or whatever - caused this destruction apparently didn't leave any physical traces. The red mana signs might be worth investigating, however. Perhaps she can discover a pattern in their locations, or figure out when they were left. What kind of a powerful being could wipe out the black mana aura constantly surrounding House Shimia in so short a time?
Hearing voices, she notices that a lot of unfamiliar mages have shown up. Probably from the nearby Houses of Lat-Nam and Hammerheim. She considers going to the House herself, but Fumiko-san would eat her alive if she couldn't report anything of value.
A simple task, presumably, unless it is a test of arrogance... No matter.Flame-Tongue taps into his connection to the deserts of Jamuraa, and channels the resulting mana into a single casting of shock.
There's a guard I can ask about what happened Talnin thinks to himself, eyeing the only guard he can see in the vicinity, and a particularly disinterested-looking one at that.
"Actually," Talnin says out loud, "I'm just going to ask the circus over here - they look like they know what they're doing."
As Talnin approaches the group, a...'fellow' around his age walks past him. Talnin isn't sure what to make of the young man - he looked a bit like an Elf...but those hooves and horns?
Talnin shrugs and frowns a little. There's still soooo many peoples I don't know about.
Speaking of not knowing about different peoples - there's a guy who looks like he's on fire Talnin thinks to himself as he approaches the group of mages at the ruins of House Shimia. Although Talnin had never met them before, he could feel the amount of raw energy in the area. It makes him slightly uncomfortable since he has never been around so many other mages in one area, and quite a few looked a fair bit older than him, too.
As Talnin gets close to the other mages, he semi-consciously chooses to be closest to the only girl in the group that he can see - a dark-haired woman who carried a staff - before saying as loudly as he dared: "excuse me, but do any of you know what is going on here? I've just come from Greel's and it seems that no one knows what happened. How does a House as large as Shimia's just get...wrecked without anyone seeing?"
Vorin nodded to Tangarth. With no other options, he left the house. On his way out he say Fumiko and the lizard creature. We walked close enough to them that the mage he walked in with would see that Vorin was leaving
Vorin returned to the rubble of House Shimia. He once again saw the flamekin, but chose not to talk to him.
As Vorin stood, he noticed that there was some red mana among the rubble. He closed his eyes and concentrated, trying to find the source of this mana. Tangarth was obviously angry about this happening, so Vorin was shocked to see that a red mage may have been involved.
Cyouni looks up at Kennar, carefully controlling his surprise. It takes him a moment to place the voice. The mention of the cursed mansion seals it. "Kennar. You look...different."
The tattoo that had adorned Cyouni's hand the last time they met is gone, wiped away as though it had never existed.
The flamekin smiles a little. After a moment, he remembers the tattoo that Cyouni had back then, and notes the lack of it. "I could say the same thing of you. Though, mine's a little more obvious than yours. But for some reason I think your change is more important to you than mine is to me."
Kennar glances over at the rubble. "You use black mana. I assume you were a member of Shimia?"
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
The kitsune who had been so harshly removed from her new home looks around at the rubble with widened eyes. She can understand that there's something big going on. Something big enough to warrant removing her from Kamigawa. But this... She hadn't expected this. What the hell had happened?
The guards are still picking over the grounds. Trying to figure out what to do. What happened.
They're not going to have much time to look. A rumbling gives an indication that SOMETHING is coming.
Cyouni offers a nod at Kennar's first statement. Not necessarily agreeing, simply accepting it. "I still remain a member of Shimia. A House is not just the building it occupies."
As the ground rumbles, Cyouni straightens from his crouch, brushing the dirt off his pants. "Looks like it might be a good time to see what you've learned."
The mark on his left hand flares purple as Cyouni draws his dagger.
The woman nods. "Maybe a little rough around the edges, but you've proven you can use red mana enough for my tastes."
She hands Flame-Tongue a small coin. "This is a symbol of your membership of House Hammerheim. Keep it with you to show your allegiance. You can also head to the back of the House and claim a room. I'm not sure how many we've got left, but if you find one simply put a personal mark on the door and it'll be yours."
Kennar turns to face the rubble, standing next to Cyouni. "Yes, I suppose it is..."
The light around Kennar seems to darken for a moment, then the newborn shadows flow into his left hand. Small flickers of black fire dance around his clenched fist.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
Zalara quickly gets to her feet when she feels the rumbling, and scrambles to a more open area of the ruins, where the walls have largely fallen away. Some of the other mages have started drawing upon the land. It wouldn't be a bad idea, in case she needs to defend herself from a suddenly emerging wurm or elemental.
It's then that she notices the two at the side of the road, staring intently at each other as manifestations of mana flow from their hands. I will never understand black mages. Their house has crumbled to the ground, and all those two can think about is a contest of who is stronger?
Erin could scarcely believe that one of the great houses had been destroyed. She had been hearing about them for a long time and was actually a member of one of them. And this one was... Destroyed? Mind, the kitsune is rather distracted at the moment.
So she doesn't notice the rumbling until a few seconds after the others. Noticing others staring to channel mana, she swiftly does the same. Starting to toss a single ball of glowing blue up and down.
As he tried to locate the source of the red mana, Vorin became distracted by the sudden rumbling. He noticed the other mages gathering mana, but he had no idea what was coming, and it seemed like there were enough people to take care of the situation. He didn't want to strain his body too much by gathering red mana, so instead he called upon his ties to the Oasis he had visited in the desert.
Flame Tongue accepted the coin, but as he turned to search for a room, the rumbling from outside caught his attention. Moving outside, he saw the collection of mages at the rubble begin gathering their mana. Unsure of what exactly was occurring, he took advantage of the time for preparation to draw upon his connection to the campground of desert nomads who once pledged their aid to the bey.
"What was that?" the zombie asked as he turned up from his excavation, wondering if the old lab was in tact was a thing to worry about later. Drawing up his weapon to get ready
David was unsuccessful in finding anything of value during his own search and noticed others had gathered to investigate the remains. He was going to ask if anyone else had found something when the shaking began.
"What was that?"
He reached his hand into his satchel as he began to connect to the red leyline.
The rumbling continues, growing even deeper and more powerful. The rubble of the destroyed House begins to vibrate, jumping around and bouncing all over the place. The sound not only rattles in the skulls of the assembled mages, but in their mana. The latent mana around the rubble seems to grate painfully against their magical senses. Those who wield black mana and red mana are particularly affected.
Kennar turns his head and leans forward a bit, as though standing against a strong wind. Using both red and black mana, the vibration hits him particularly hard.
He attempts to ignore the rumbling, and extends his right hand. In it, a single flame, bright cherry red, ignites as he draws forth red mana.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
Erin stares at the bouncing rocks and swiftly moves away from it. Trying not to get a bouncing rock to the temple or the eye. There's a sudden wince as she feels the mana starting to rub against her, causing an instant headache. Almost by instinct she pulls another blue ball out of the air to juggle with the first. This... Is not good.
The undead mage's knees nearly bucks as the magical backlash hit. There was something here, and something big coming. Drawing more mana for strength and whatever was coming. This might not end well.
Vorin's body quickly began to ache. Gathering red mana already causes him a great deal of pain, so this added discomfort that all the red mages seemed to be feeling only made things worse. He shook his arms as if to break ties with his red mana, only to realize that he hadn't actually conjured any. His blood still felt like it was burning, so Vorin began to step back away from the house rather quickly.
Vorin called upon the mana he had recently acquired from being in the desert and continued to back away from the rumbling house.
David wasnt' enjoying the feel of the rumble. It felt wrong, and it made him lose some concentration. After gathering his bearings, he knelt down and placed his hand on the ground, whispering something simple as he willed a new connection.
