Where the house once stood, there's... Nothing. A plot of rubble. A few walls, a bit of twisted support. Lots of scorched materials from fires that have since been put out. But otherwise... Nothing. The house has been destroyed. Inside, there's no sign of life. No sign of anything. Any belongings have already been looted.
There are plenty of looky-loos, of course. People passing who can't help but take a look, see what's going on. What passes for a guard in the city of Estark are standing, watching. But it's not as if anyone is investigating. There's nothing to investigate. It might as well been a fire. That is, if there were any survivors picking over their belongings.
"Excuse me? Do you know exactly what happened here?"
David approached the guard that was standing in the rubble. He had just got back into town and had heard the news from whispers of rumors that the people were passing along.
Returning from Saffi's, Vorin began retuning to House Hammerheim. As he walked towards his own house, he noticed the ruins of House Shimia. Worried that his own house would be attacked in the same way, he ran in quickly and grabbed everything he needed and left. He was in and out in a few quick minutes.
Retuning outside, he waited by the ruins of the house. He was curious to learn more about what had happened, but unlike the other mage, he didn't act on his curiosity. He found a shady spot to sit and rest, waiting to see how the guard reacts to the other mage.
"I see. Well then, why exactly are remains being guarded if the event already passed? Are there powerful artifacts in there or something worth stealing among the rubble?"
David smiled as he looked over the guard's shoulder. He wasn't expecting the guard to answer his question honestly but he was curious none the less.
"I wouldn't know until I got a look now wouldn't I? So how about just letting me through and I'll just start sifting through the rubble. You can watch me for all I care."
Vorin watched the conversation with guard and the mage. It was beginning to pique his interests, and it seemed like there was little else going on around Estark.
Vorin stood up and began walking around the house and away from the other mage. He was slowly getting closer to the house as he walked around its perimeter, waiting to see if any guards harassed him.
The flamekin Kennar, wandering by on his way to House Hammerheim from Frankie's shop, sees the rubble of the house. What happened here? he thinks with a frown. The House of black mana, destroyed. What could possibly do this to such a powerful House? Perhaps this can be used to some advantage. Any aid provided would surely be greatly appreciated by Shimia members.
He wanders up, and notices the other mages standing about. He glares at the elf. He reconizes it as one of the natives of his home plane. The kind that almost killed him. He suppresses his hatred as he watches the elf wander around the side of the demolished building, and walks over to the human. "Do you know what happened here?"
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
She's never held any love for House Shimia, but Zalara can't help but stop and stare as she passes by the crowd of onlookers. The smoking girders. The walls crumbled to rubble. The rest of the city, untouched...
Could this be the work of a red mage?
She's had quite enough of dealing with renegade red mages. She barely escaped the last one.
She sees a few guards standing by, while a human, a flamekin, and an elf investigate the ruined House. Through her connection to the red leyline, she senses that all of them are capable of channeling red mana.
It could be any of them.
Having nothing better to do at the moment, Zalara remains scouring the scene with her eyes, hoping to glean a clue of where exactly the walls crumbled, when the fires started, any traces the perpetrator may have left behind (red mages aren't exactly known for being methodical, after all). All of this would be valuable information to report back to House Hammerheim.
If she dares.
After all, it's no secret that the five Houses of Estark have a long-standing rivalry.
Fire... Isn't in a lot of evidence around here. While it's here and there, this wasn't a red mage that did it. Nor is there a lot of water. Or evidence of animals. It's more like it got smashed by a fist the size of houses.
It's a bunch of rubble of nondescript cause. There's simply a lot of it.
The zombie came back from his little wait in the bar. Hearing of strange rumors, looking around and wondering what had happened here. "Well this.... was a bit of a surprise." the undead mage mumbled, looking at the ruins and approaching the stairs...or what used to be the place that led to the basement. Wondering if it was still usable.
Observing the large and varied congregation of mages forming at the fresh rubble, the wind rider assumed it was until recently the site of a building of great import. Beyond that, there was little he could discern, so utterly thorough the destruction was that had taken place.
Using his attuned reptilian scent, Flame Tongue detected another manipulator of red mana in the vicinity (ooc: is this permissible? I'll change it if it's not.), and approached the flame-scarred elf poking about the perimeter of the rubble.
(to Vorin) What seems to have transpired here? And what is the great significance of this place?
Arriving back in Estark, slightly confused as to how he got there, Mar is... annoyed to find Shimia destroyed, for with it goes his room is Estark. A rather vexatious event, especially as the papers he used to first enter the city were left in his room - and they probably remain in the rubble.
As Mat stands near some of the mages gathered nearby, listening in on nearby conversations, he realizes how little he actually knows about the house that he joined - and if not for the fact that he was granted a token of Shimia upon joining, there would be little to connect him to the house. Still, it is the social bonds that connect us that allow civilization to thrive, and if someone is launching an assault on one of the pillars of the City - and Mar is certain that any accident from within the house would not be so localized - is an attack on the city.
Mar reaches into his pack, rearranging it so that the token of Shimia is closer to hand, and steps closer to the destruction, to continue listening to others to see if he can better piece together what has happened.
Well, I'm going to assume that Mar made it back to Estark safely and without adventure from the quest he was on, and that I am allowed to post here. If not, just tell me.
Vorin turned to see who had approached him. He did a bit of a double take, surprised to see whatever this creature was talk. He had seen a few of them in the Hammerheim house before leaving, but wasn't really aware they were conscious. He shook of his confusion. After spending days with Kassim, he was used to unfamiliar species, so he just responded, feeling more and more every moment like he was dreaming.
"I...couldn't tell you. I just got here..."
Looking up from the rubble, he realized many more mages had arrived since when he first noticed the rubble of the black aligned house. Vorin became more interested in what had happened, as there must be some significant implication of it if so many people had gathered. He turned back to the lizard creature:
"I'm gonna head back to House Hammerheim. Maybe the house leader or some of the other high ranking mages there will know what happened here. I don't think anyone will find much by just sifting through charred rubble"
He began walking towards his own house once more, expecting the lizard-man to follow him. Knowing that many mages were investigating the area, he tried to make his exit subtle.
OOC: Would you like me to keep posting here in my return to the Hammerheim House or should I post in the actual thread?
The actual rubble is interesting. There's soot, as if it's burned. But there's no indication of any fire. Structural cracks imply an impact, but there's no sign of the actual impact. One could say the building fell down on its own. But that wouldn't leave the level of rubble that this one left.
There are signs of a lot of different mana. Each mage of each color would be able to find signs of their own.
OOC: I'm of the impression that my character has no knowledge of the house/guild system. Is that a fair assumption, given that he is a native of Dominara?
As Vorin left, he saw a flamekin out of the corner of his eye. It was the first familiar being he'd noticed since arriving at Estark, and he hoped the would still be around when he returned to the rubble. Though, by the time he had approached the Hammerheim House, Vorin had convinced himself he had imagined seeing a flamekin.
Vorin entered the house and returned to the stairwell where he had met with Fumiko the Lowblood the last time he was in the house. He knocked on her door, hoping she might have some answers.
Soru's plans when he returned to the city was to go to the house of the Lat-Nam, to seek answers about the urgent summonings, but overhearing a few conversations on the way, he knew where he had to head to.
He was rather astonished at the sight of the once mighty house Shimia. Lots of mages were already around, searching about in the ruins.
He even sensed the presence of blue mana along the ruins.
Let's see then... he said to himself in a low voice, as he tethered to the mana flow, seeking clues as to what might have happened.
The viashino followed the elf to the house of Hammerhiem. Perhaps seeking membership here will be the best course of action in furthering his study of magics.
Nobody answers Vorin's knocks. A moment later there's a noise behind Vorin, and the leader of House Hammerheim, Tahngarth himself, stands looking down at him.
"Fumiko is not here right now," the minotaur says to Vorin with a nod. "Whatever you had to say to her you can say to me in her place."
At the same time, a red-robed woman near the entrance notices the vishino standing in the hall, after he followed the elf in. "Hello. Can I help you," she asks politely.
Kennar kneels at what was once the front of the house of black mana. He spots the marks of both red and black mana, as well as the other three colors. Hm... This is interesting. All kinds of magic were involved in taking Shimia down. More than one mage? Or a mage of such power that he can wield all five colors of magic. Either way, this is bad. Hammerheim could be next. Or any of the others.
Kennar stands, and stands there thinking. He decides to stay here, in case someone from Shimia shows up.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
should all further activity taking place I'm other locations be placed in spoiler tags? Or was that to separate your WP from character actions?

The house looks... Nearly vaporized, really. A couple of trebuchets with flaming pitch projectiles wouldn't be as effective.

I am in your [PACK]. Watching you... do... something.

And thus do empires and settlements fall
