Saffi looked distraught while maintaining the portal. As the three arrived she spoke while looking at three tiles on a nearby counter saying, "Takes those with you. This plane feels familiar, yet something inside me shudders at what can only be described as an alien presence. I'm worried about what's on the other side and what may come through if the portal is left open."
Taking her gaze from the tiles she looked back at the three pleading, "Be safe, stick together, and see if you can track down the ones responsible for House Shimia's destruction! Now hurry through!"
Before the three lay the portal, a swirling mass of white light flickering with the colors of the rainbow. Saffi was right, something about this portal felt wrong.
Cyouni takes a second tile, dropping it sin his satchel. Vaguely surprised at Gully being there, he offers her a brief nod of acknowledgement. He had only expected himself and Mar to be on this venture. Not that he had anything against her presence, of course.
"Not much. I'm told there are mages who are attacking the Houses, and that one of them's fled to the plane we're heading to. At least one of them is powerful enough to make some kind of spellcasting orb that can function on its own." Cyouni frowns slightly. "I can't say I like the looks of this. We're heading straight into their stronghold with no knowledge of what resources they have."
The two find themselves blinded for a split second by the portal's light as they step through. Then within moments their bodies tell them of the temperature change as their momentum carries them sliding across a cold hard surface slicked over by a black liquid.
Looking around revealed they were in what appeared to be a metallic landscape covered in a brown and black sludge of water. Sight was limited unfortunately by the twilight, at least that's how their brains interpreted the purple light radiating from above.
Beyond the metallic sights were the subtle sounds of what might be small critters scurrying about.
There did not appear to be any immediate signs of the ones they were pursuing.
As Cyouni brought his hands out of the muck the sludge slowly dripped off leaving behind a darker substance sticking to his left hand. A light prickling could be felt where the substance made contact with his tattoo.
"I'd suggest you avoid it as much as possible," Cyouni remarks, glancing at his left hand. "This," he continues, raising his left hand to the purple light to get a better look, "might not be too good for me."
He pulls a small bit of mana to himself, knowing the tattoo will glow a soft purple, even if he can't see it. A quick look at this mystery, then back to the hunt.
As Gully asked Cyouni for a direction, the mana he had been drawing to himself began to interact through the tattoo with the sludge. The prickling suddenly became daggers of pain as the sludge formed into raised spikes tracing the form of the tattoo. His mana was being siphoned off by whatever the sludge was. Though panic may have been rising within him another emotion took hold of him through the pain.
A whisper of hope, for through the pain he could sense cracks in the binding which had been applied to him so long ago...
Cyouni suffers a life loss each turn he continues to draw on black mana. Currently the substance is interfering with Cyouni's filter. React however you see fit.
Pieces of the sludge fall off his hand as he releases the mana, each bit glowing a soft purple. A glance down at his tattoo revealed pieces missing from where the sludge had fallen.
Forward was a good question considering they could head in any direction. Of those directions there was the immediate slag of metal rising out of the ground to what was probably their north if the purple sun was of any indication. Something about that mound screamed of architecture. To the east and west the water sludge continued on for as far as their eyes could see. To the south the water continued towards what looked like more protrusions of slag from the ground with a reddish glow on that horizon.
Cyouni scans the horizon, glancing back and forth between the north and the south. "That way's probably the best, I think," he says, pointing north, at what he supposes might be a building. "If the mage we're hunting escaped here, it's likely they headed for cover."
The damaged filter spurs his thoughts - the faster they get this done, the faster he can get to work on fully destroying it.
Saffi handed Mar a tile and almost through him through the portal screaming, "You're late! Hurry after the two!"
With that she did shove him through sending the cleric sprawling through a blinding white light only to arrive under a purple sun that shone dimly.
The journey between planes was disorienting enough that even Mar's feline sense of balance escaped him as he found himself skidding through a blackish brown sludge on his back. After a few feet and perhaps a tinge of embarrassment, he found himself at the feet of a little girl with Cyouni standing not too far away from him.
Pulling mana to himself, Cyouni grits his teeth to stave off the pain he knows will come. "Let's go. No time to lose." Without another word, he begins heading through the sludge towards the metal mound.
