The illusions leap forward to stop the whip-wielding zombies, tying them down. (Vertigo Spawn blocking the Slavedrivers.)
The gun glows blue.
Two bolts are launched from the gun, one a bolt of lightning, the other one glowing a brilliant blue. The lightning bolt strikes the regal-looking zombie, while the blue bolt sends the zombie beast back to the plane it came from. The weirds add their efforts, and significantly reduce the size of the zombie horde. The mage also copies the blue bolt, sending the other zombie beast away.
Alright. Gelectrodes tap to deal 2 damage to a Death Baron. Lightning Bolt the other Death Baron, and they both die. Weirds untap, deal 2 damage to the Dreadwings. Unsummon the Dreg Reaver. Izzet Guildmage copies the Unsummon, targeting the other Dreg Reaver. Weirds untap, deal 1 damage to each of the Dregscape Zombies.

"Hope there's not going to be much ahead, then. We've been here quite a while already."
The Izzet levels the gun at the necromancer. "Can't afford to save spells now." He focuses his mana into an explosion of mana, gathering as much mana as he can for one strike at the necromancer.
A thin ray of ice lances towards one of the zombies, containing no small number of rituals to increase the mana flowing through the gun. An attempt to stop the spell is made by the necromancer (Cancel), but the attempt is thwarted in turn by a ray from the Izzet's gun (Negate). A ball of lava's hurled at the necromancer, this one containing even more of the mana-increasing rituals.
All the mana coalesces into a massive fireball, which is hurled at the necromancer. The doomed necromancer has no chance to dodge, and is hurled to the ground a smoking wreck, the raised zombies and his summons dissipating.

The weirds make short work of some of the zombies, but a few remain. Because of all the spells, 12 damage from the Gelectrodes is flying around, with 2 damage from the Glacial Ray. That takes out both Slavedrivers and both Shambling Remains.
Tai turned and followed, he looked to his troops. "Help clean up, then come as quickly as you can!" He looked to his Izzet companion. "Let's go! No time to waste."
Tai did the same, pushing every bit of energy he could into the orb. At first, he felt nothing, but soon, the orb responded, drawing more and more from him, hungrily feeding on his power.
The others do the same, and there is an immediate reaction. Part of the orbs separate, stretching towards each other to create a pyramid of silvery wire encasing the portal. As soon as the pyramid's complete, all sense of mana within simply stops. As though the area within the pyramid is completely cut off from the outside world.
The orb's call for mana has stopped by now, leaving all three mages drained.
The portal stands alone within the pyramid, and through the mesh, the mages watch it surge, almost as if it's attempting to break through the wire. That doesn't last long. Without finding any purchase, the portal shrivels, collapsing in on itself in record time. The silvered metal of the pyramid grows blacker and blacker, almost as though it's taking on the taint of the portal.
No trace of the portal remains. Only then does the mesh pyramid collapse, drawing itself back into the spheres it started from.
The area goes quiet, the only sound that of far-off battles.
Tai smiled in spite of the din of combat that surrounds him. "We...we did it..." He gasped, still drained from the exertion. He staggerd to his feet looking for his comrades in arms. "Are you okay?" He calls out.
The forces that they'd left behind to clear out the last of that zombie force have returned, none the worse for wear.
"Yeah."
"I'm fine."
It takes time, but eventually other mages gather at the spot where the portal used to be. The closing of the portal makes it a lot faster. Commander Varl is among them, his armour slightly more battle-worn than before. He offers a nod of appreciation. "Good work, you three."
He raises his voice so that he can be heard by all the mages. "We'll let the main forces clean up here, and get back to Ravnica. The zeppelids are waiting for us on the west side."
There is a weak cheer, made weak only by the exhaustion of the mages. It's clear none wish to stick around.
The trip to the the zeppelids is uneventful, as is the trip back. That is, unless you count the constant retching of that one Selesnyan an event.
When they get there, they find the Sunhome in an uproar. Each of the nine guilds has sent a representative, and they all stand in the lobby. And none of them look any too happy with the Order of the Sphinx representative standing across from them. So much so, in fact, that all of them are yelling at her at once.
"Why didn't you tell us about the second portal?"
"Why was it only the one away from Ravnica?"
The metallic-winged angel looks around, her eyes frantic. "Please, wait! Neither I nor my master knew there was a second portal! We only knew about the one in Urborg!"
"Oh? And how are we supposed to believe that?"
Before they can see much more, Commander Varl snaps, "Dismissed!" His eyes roam over the mages. "You'll get your pay as we get to you."
There is a bit of a grumble, but the group of mages slowly begins to break up.
Varl's eyes meet Tai's, and he walks over to him. "Like I said earlier, good work. Your troop's intact, and you're looking fine.
So, once we get some of this mess straightened out," he waves a hand at the argument going on behind him, "I'd be happy to talk about your recruitment."
