The guard nods, opening the gate at the guardpost. "Ah, you must be the hired security," the guard says to the three mages. "You're in luck. The first mate is here to personally escort you to the ship."
He nods slightly to the large man, who puts away his razor and strides forward. "C'mon," he says simply, gesturing to the city's main street. "Don't want to keep the captain waiting." With that, he begins walking down the street without looking back. "You got any questions, ask 'em now. Captain ain't much of a talker."

Soru tagged along the first mate.
Well, all i wanted to know is if there is a specific reason the captain needs our services. Should we be expecting anything in particular?
"Pirates," the first mate says as he picks up his pace a bit. "Standard procedure to hire on a few mages for protection. Sometimes the Cap'n talks to them great houses you got in Estark. They say it's good training for their younger members to work security on ships."

OOC: Shadow is dropping out due to real life business. Looks like it's just the two of you. Guess we'll wait a little longer for sillydeadweight to post then move on to the adventure.

OOC: It will. I'll drop a bump to sillydeadweight. If he doesn't respond in a timely manner, I might just have to drop him out. I saw him online checking the MTGRPG forum a few days back. Don't know why he didn't post.

OOC: Back from camping. sillydeadweight hasn't responded to my PM and hasn't posted, so unfortunately I'm going to have to drop him.
The first mate leads Soru through the city, and people seem to melt out of his way as he walks.
As the pair reach the dock, the first mate gestures to the ship on the far right of the docks. Its wood is painted pure white, and the sails are a similar color. The Forever Dawn is of average size and appears to be built for cargo space instead of speed.
The first mate appears to visibly relax upon spotting the ship. "There she is," he says with a small smile.

OOC: Don't worry, I'll scale the difficulty back a bit for you.
"'Couple of hours, maybe," the first mate says. "Less if the captain could be convinced not to wait for a couple of hungover deckhands. You should go talk to him anyway. Let him know you're on board and ready to cast off."

The first mate nods toward the cabin at the rear of the ship. "He's almost always in there before a ship sets sail. See if you can't convince him to sail sooner rather than later."
Many civilians appear to be piling onto the ship, along with some trade goods and crates full of who knows what. The white wood of the ship creaks softly, and deckhands go about preparing her to sail. By Soru's reckoning, they could set sail within two hours if the goods on the dock are all that need to be loaded.

Soru walks across the deck, heading for the cabin the first mate nodded at. He found it somewhat uncomfortable to be so close with so many civilians, no doubt of lesser birth.
"That doesn't matter. If staying away from the lowbloods was my goal, i would have stayed in Kamigawa." He thought to himself while pushing onward through the mass of deckhands and civilians.
He reached the cabin door, knocked slightly, and entered...
The man who is presumably the captain sits at a desk in the center of the room. The first thing that stands out about the man are the scars. His face is so scarred it could almost be deliberate. His right cheek is more heavily marked than his left.
He is a lean man, balding, with dark skin and simple clothing.
He looks up as Soru walks in, and says "Can I help you?"

Soru studied the man a bit. The scars were so many, he couldn't work out wether they were caused by swordfights, tortures, or some strange kind of ritual. Trying to pay less attention to that, he spoke.
Greetings captain. My name is Soru, and i was hired as a security measure for the ship. I was wondering what is keeping us from sailing.
The captain stands, and begins sorting the objects on his desk absentmindedly. "We haven't left yet because I still have three sailors who haven't arrived. I'm not sure where they are, but they are my three best men. We cannot set sail without them."

What could make three deckhands so important? From what i have observed, you have a quite large crew already. And from what i've heard people have begun mumbling about the delay already. I am sure we can manage with three less sailors.
"I'll not leave my sons behind," the captain says briskly. "They've earned the right to be on this crew through blood and sweat and tears, and they're the best men I've got."
The captain looks at Soru thoughtfully. "Perhaps if someone were to find them and convince them to get here early, we could set sail sooner."

The captain shakes his head. "The last I heard of them, they were staying at a local inn callled The Shimmering Seas. But I went there this morning at they were gone. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to ask the patrons about where they might have gone. Perhaps that's where you should start your search."

Searching for needles in hay then... I am off. With a slight nod, he exited the cabin.
To his disgust, even more people were gathered on the deck now. He suddenly felt more motivated to seek those three drunkards in places less crowded. He got off the Forever Dawn, and headed along the street, to the inn he had seen while following the first mate. Reaching it, he enters.

OOC: perhaps silly and shadow should be messaged.

IC: The first mate shrugs. "Three days there, three back, depending on wind and currents. And if we run into pirates."

OOC:is shadow coming?

When are we leaving then?
