As they entered the cavern, Uldran had been looking at the scenery above and around them, not down, missing something important. The akki horde. He bumped into Talnin, and looked down, just in time for Talnin's hand to be put on his shoulder. "Talnin, why ar-oh my!"
Strangely, that was all the motivation that Uldran needed. He took off up the tunnel, hoping his allies were right with him. Couldn't really afford to stop and look, survival instinct was kicking in.
Eavath saw the horde of akki coming towards them and the hand on his shoulder was all the motivation he needed. He quickly turned and ran back up the tunnel with his companions. As he was running, he was trying to carefully loosen some rocks, being careful not to overextend to reach some and not trip himself. He hoped that had helped slow them down at least a little a bit.
Eavath doesn't manage to loosen too many - it's difficult to both run and bring rocks down at the same time. What he does loosen barely even slows down the horde.
Seeing Eavath's failed attempts to slow the horde, Uldran quickly realized the gravity of the situation. It was going to take something bigger. Much bigger.
"Any other ideas?!" he yelled to the other two, quite hurriedly.
I'll let you instant-summon the griffins as long as they're not used in combat. They can still be killed, however, depriving you of a mount in mid-air. So you may want to be careful. I probably don't have to remind you of the consequences.
Talnin's look behind him reveals the akki horde, still hot on their tail. There is one good thing, however - the width of the tunnel means that the goblins can't all come at them at once.
The mages round a corner, and find themselves in the cavern from before. The akki captive still sits tied up at the side of the cavern. The gag and the ropes are partially chewed through. At the sound of their footsteps, he looks up, a guilty look on his face.
The griffins appear in the air above Talnin, take a look down the tunnel, and let out a squawk of terror.
OOC: As far as I can tell, we don't have much time to do things because we have goblins hot on our heels. Could you describe the situation in as much detail as possible - how close are the goblins to us (do we have time to stop for even a moment), how far down is this cavern from the surface, is there any path we can take to lose the goblins without straight-up leaving the cave? Is the leader at the forefront of the charge, or further back?
Okay, one at a time.
You have time to stop for a moment, but probably not much longer. If you stop, the akki will still have their momentum. They're just around the corner of the lower tunnel.
The cavern's not too far from the surface. It's the first one you were in. Call it about two minutes at a run.
You may be able to trick the goblins by heading down the left path, but that may not be a good idea. You don't know what's down there.
Leader's closer to the back end of the charge, last time you saw him.
Uldran snags the goblin pretty easily. Seems luck's on his side.
"Great catch, Uldran!" says a wide-eyed Talnin, somewhat surprised that Uldran actually pulled off what he was hoping.
Talnin tucks the Akki between himself and Uldran and gives it a reprimanding look, indicating the half-chewed-through rope.
Talnin doesn't figure goblins to be the caring- family sort, but as the griffins begin to head further to the entrance of the cave, Talnin looks over his shoulder just to see if there is any change in reaction among his pursuers.
OOC: I'm still here, just PMed Anaklusmos to make sure I'm not locking him out of something he might want to do with the course of action I have in mind, and seeing what he thinks about it.
Uldran caught and held onto the goblin. Doing a double take to make sure that this actually worked, he smiled from ear to ear. If the situation were a little more...composed...he would hide this satisfaction with himself. However, he wasn't afraid to gleam a little. Life is short.
Uldran nods towards Talnin, affirming that he heard his approval. Hearing the mob going from blood thirsty to downright bat**** insane, Uldran lunged towards the cave entrance.
"And so we are! I'll try to lose them outside the cave! Hang on, guys!"
Talnin urges the griffins towards the cave exit, planning to veer them off to one side and keep them low, so as to not draw attention anyone in the area.
Noticing Uldran's large grin whilst holding the captured Akki, Talnin can't help but add: "Um...and no eating!"
"Goblins taste roughly like what you humans would call 'horse piss'" Uldran yells back to him. He hangs on tighter as the griffins speed up to get to the exit.
Especially considering that they're flying, they easily make it to the exit ahead of the akki. The griffins are forced to go single file up the tunnel, but they still make it out ahead.
As the griffins pop out of the exit and go low to the ground, the akki keep on chasing. It almost seems like a tide of red surging after them. The akki mage stays on the outcropping, and a blast of flame surges from its fingers, directed at the griffin not holding the captured akki.
The griffin will eat a Hanabi Blast if it hits. Considering you're in the air at the moment, you might not want to let the griffin die.
OOC:
THE Akki mage? I wasn't aware they had one - is it the leader?
It's Eavath on the griffin without the captured Akki :P. The captured Akki is with Uldran and Talnin.
Could we get a description of our surroundings in as much detail as possible? Natural features in the immediate area and maybe stuff we can see further away?
Mage, leader, same thing. The one that was drawing mana earlier.
You're pretty much where you were earlier. To recap, you get a nice view of the outpost, a lot of mountains, one particular one covered in frost, and a large campsite close to the border. If you want to see stuff further away, roll a d20. There may or may not be stuff to see, however.
Yes, you can cast spells. Just assume that you can cast unless I tell you otherwise.

"Any other ideas?!" he yelled to the other two, quite hurriedly.
"It's a little cramped in here...but it looks like there might be enough room for flight."
Talnin begins to draw the necessary mana to summon two griffins, not entirely confident that a single griffin can support all three of his party.
I shouldn't look over my shoulder.
Talnin looks over his shoulder.
come on, come on, come on!
Talnin hops onto the nearest of the winged beasts and makes urgent motions to get Eavath and Uldraan to join him.
Uldran leaps onto the griffin nearest him, yelling, "FLY! GOGOGO!", pointing over it's head out of the tunnel.
Eavath hops onto the griffin without wasting any time.
As they swoop towards the captured Akki, Talnin says to Uldran: "you're a lot stronger than me - see if you can grab him when I make a pass!"
"Got it! Here we go...and..."
Uldran makes his best attempt at grabbing the akki.
OOC: I don't know if I can automatically pick up the akki, or if some kind or roll has to take place here, or what.
