A guttural snarl echoes throughout the chamber as the mass rises only to be snapped down to it's knees by the chains binding him. This close Kennar sees large bat like wings flex and strain at the many chains covering what is obviously a demon. Turning it's head to Kennar, he sees that the demon has been blindfolded by a red cloth covered in black runes.
Kennar gets the feeling that even though this demon was blindfolded, it could still see him. At that point the demon affixed his stare upon Kennar saying nothing for a moment.
Then spreading his mouth in a wide grin, he revealed all of his razor sharp teeth bellowing, "Manners lesser one!"
Stretching his neck forward the demon commanded, "Tell me your name."
Kennar frowns. "Only in exchange for yours, and an explaination of who this Kraust person is," he says politely.
Figuring a little ego stroking couldn't hurt, he says "One deals with mighty beings such as yourself at great potential risk. You may consider me a lesser being, but I don't consider myself foolish enough to freely give my name to powerful demons such as yourself."
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
The demon lets out a roaring laugh that echos through the room into the hallway. As the echo dies down, the blindfolded demon faces Kennar saying, "You ask a great deal, little one. Ambitious in demanding two tid bits of information from one such as I."
The demon sniffs the air, as though he were trying to taste Kennar's scent. Grinning, he says, "I taste red magic and a tinge of..."
The demon's face twists in rage before returning to a grin. Bartering he says, "You want information. Already I have given you one name, Kraust. I ask for yours in exchange. Do that and I will answer your other question giving my name. At which point I am allowed one question that you must answer. If this arrangement is agreeable then we can carry on a conversation. Do you agree?"
The demon's grin began to look like a permanent mask attached to it's face as he awaited Kennar's response.
"Ah, but you did not give me the name Kraust," Kennar says, enjoying the bartering of information. "You let it slip from your tongue. And I can reasonably deduce Kraust is not your name by the way you were cursing it. Right now, the name Kraust is a worthless piece of information to me. Only by asking for an explaination of who this person is does it gain value."
Smiling a little to himself, Kennar decides to take a risk. The demon appears bound for the moment, and this is likely to be as safe a situation as he can hope for when dealing with a demon. "Kennar."
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
"Training," Kennar says, keeping his word to answer the demon's question. "A Yolin led me down here, to teach me how to use the power of black mana. There were four archways, and the one I chose led me here."
Deciding to try again for an answer, the flamekin says"Will you tell me who Kraust is, now that I have answered your question?"

"Is there a way to free you from... this?" Kennar gestures to the chains and the blindfold as he takes his turn, reminding himself to tread very carefully. This was a dangerous game he was involved in.

"Powerful enough that the Yolin agreed to teach me. I have many spells," Kennar says, pensively. He's never actually considered how powerful he would be in another's eyes. "More spells than many other mages I've met."
"And how much power do you command," Kennar asks in turn.

Kennar takes a similar moment to consider his next question. Seeming too eager to have the demon's power might give the demon the advantage that Kennar so far holds. "What plane are you originally from?"

Lesh'al-ka's face contorted into pure glee when Kennar answered yes. Speaking before Kennar could ask another question, Lesh'al-ka spoke saying, "Pact accepted!"
As soon as the last word was uttered by Lesh'al-ka, the chains binding him went slack as wisps of purple energy drifted about him and the chains like an aura. Then just as Kennar was probably beginning to realize the situation, the purple wisps of energy launched forward colliding into him.
Several events happened at that moment. One, Kennar felt an overwhelming surge of black mana rise within himself along with several visions of imps and demons. Two, the slack chain completely released Lesh'al-ka who immediately jumped clear of the room's center. Three, the chains that had been binding Lesh'al-ka seemed to sense a change in Kennar as they lashed out.
In the blink of an eye, Kennar found himself bound in much the same position that the demon had been in. Chains bound his arms and legs forcing him in a kneeling position as the enchantments drew away every spec of black mana residing within Kennar.
Lesh'al-ka stood stretching at the hallway laughing at Kennar in triumph saying, "Though I am grateful for your incompetence granting my freedom, I am infuriated that a lesser being like yourself thought he could outwit a demon of my caliber! For that, you must die! When I am through with you, I'll seek out that pact breaker Kraust and make him pay as well!"
Kennar realized the demon fully intended to kill him now that it was free. In that same moment of realization he noticed that the enchantments on the chains were completely draining all of his black mana. Perhaps Kennar would have a chance to put this demon down with his fire magic before being killed at it's hands.

Kennar's eyes go wide when the demon says "Pact accepted", understanding his mistake instantly.
As the chains drain his black mana, Kennar snarls at the demon. "You are far more foolish than I am," he growls.
Concentrating as hard as he can, even while the chains drain his mana, Kennar reaches deep into himself to draw on his red mana. With the black mana being drained, he hopes it will be easier to use red.

Kennar expects the fire to flow up from his legs, through his torso and into his hands. Instead, a piece of the blackened skin on his left palm bursts into blood-red flame as an arcane sigil of some kind appears in the flamekin's hands. From under the burned and blackened skin, the flame steadily smolders.
Kennar shouts a word, and with great effort points his palm at the demon. A bolt of electricity leaps from Kennar's outstretched hand, streaking toward the demon's hulking form.
The light burning under the sigil dims somewhat as Kennar taps into the power of his fire.

Lesh'al-ka snarled in pain as the electricity surged through him. Shaking his head like a bull he spread his legs in the starting position of a sprint before becoming a blur.
In the moment Kennar had blinked after seeing the blur, he felt his entire body scream out in pain pulsating from his right upper torso and arm. The demon had taken five massive chunks of stone out of Kennar. The gashes shone a dull lava like orange as the area blackened to a coal color exactly the same as what was spreading out from his palm.
"So the chains have not bound your fire magic!" growled the demon slightly behind Kennar's right shoulder. "At least you will give me a workout before I kill Kraust!"
Already the demon was returning to that sprinting position...

Modify the land play roll to be 3. 1 is still failure, 2 and 3 allow for a success while bound to the chains.
Kennar notices the skin turn black like in his palm as the demon slashes his stone flesh, but it is of little importance to him. Survival came first.
Again, Kennar reached inside himself to find the fire that had been absent.

As Kennar again finds the fire waiting to respond to his will, a second arcane symbol is seared into Kennar's palm, though of a different shape than the first. The two symbols dim as Kennar draws in the mana necessary to cast his next volley.
Electricity sparks in Kennar's palm, moving to surround his entire body in an instant. With a scream, twin blasts of devestating electrical discharge explode from Kennar's form in all directions. As chaotic as it seemed, Kennar was in total control of his emotions for the first time in combat. The power to throw around such blasts came not from rage or anger, but from a sense of focus Kennar had never felt.

He sheathes his sword as he gets closer, a show that he was no threat to the large creature chained to the ground.
"Who is Kraust?" Kennar asks the shape calmly, about twenty feet before he actually enters the room.

Apparently satisfied with his answer the demon went on to ask, "What plane of existence do you hail from?"
"Lorwyn," Kennar answers the demon with disgust in his voice. "And I am glad to be rid of it."
Kennar, thinking about what question he wants to ask next, suddenly hits upon inspiration. "Do you always keep to the terms of pacts you make?"

Just to make sure about this but Kennar clearly answered yes to the question, "Do you want my power?"
So no complaining when I make my next post!
Uh oh. Probably should have thought that one through a little more.
