OOC: I double block one, meaning I am still hit by one, and I assume it is now our turn.
Vorin gestured to the two goblins calling them to defend him from one of the attacks, yet the other bandit connects again. He clenched his jaw in pain, but only one bandit was much easier to cope with than three. Nevertheless the damage was really piling on. He then gathered more mana into his body. His eyes began glowing red and the shining scars on his legs could be seen through his pants. He screamed out as the mana flowed through his body causing him pain and giving him power. Ready to reach into his satchel, he glared at his foes, ready to let all of him raw power out.
As the bandits approached him, Vorin grasped his gems firmly in his hands. Channeling his mana through his arms, his scars began to glow red. The mana was converted into two blasts, which shot down two of the nomad leaving Vorin unscathed.
OOC: I cast Incinerate and Shock on two nomads. I will hit the one attacking me and one that is attacking Kassim, UNLESS he can block the one attacking me, in which case I will blast the two attacking him.
With a sigh of relief as the mana left him, he took a breath to recover as the nomads charging him were eliminated. This momentary respire allowed him to focus inward and gather mana correctly. His arms were shaking, but his focus allowed him to gather mana while feeling minimal pain. With sufficient mana, he grabbed a gem and placed it on the ground focusing all his mana on it. He stepped back as the gem glowed and a medium sized dragon emerged from the gem and began flying overhead.
Seeing that there were no more bandits coming, Vorin held up the final gem and withdrew the summon. Taking a step back, he felt the mana flow out of his body. As it left him, he began to fell empowered again. As the mana was squeezed out of him, his body was released from great tension and agony, leaving him feeling euphoric. The nod of approval from Kassim only again reassured himself of his mastery over his new abilities.
As Kassim walked over to the bandits, Vorin decided to follow him. However, after taking two steps towards the bandits, he collapsed.
Vorin woke up quickly. The water entered his body and cooled down the mana lingering inside of him. Although Kassim had bandaged his physical injuries, it was the exhaustion that made him faint. This was his first time in a serious battle using red mana, and on top of the stressful flight and the exhausting environment, the painful energy coursing through his veins caused him to faint. By this time, the mana he had gathered was completely gone, so he quickly jumped up as Kassim was checking the horizon.
Looking around, Vorin noticed all the bandages on his cuts, which were in fact not very deep (as they were not the cause of his collapse). Moreover, all of his supplies, except his gems had disappeared from under him. Vorin came to the quick conclusion that they had been attacked again by bandits, who had stolen his supplies and then ran off, probably without injuring Kassim. He brushed himself off and stood up slowly.
As Kassim turned back to him, he looked down. "....Thanks" was all he could muster at first, looking down at the bandages.
"Glad to know this mana can be of use." In truth, it was the first time Vorin had used his red mana for something useful, so Kassim's praise gave Vorin a lot of confidence.
Vorin was relieved to see his supplies in Kassim's hand and felt a little stupid for jumping to assumptions.
"No, it's fine. Let me carry it. It's a little more complicated than that." He began taking off the bandages while talking, as he was in a pretty decent physical condition. He then began walking next to Kassim "My body has not yet become accustomed to this type of magic. Like most elves, green mana used to flow through my body. Yet, after an unfortunate run-in with some flamekin, the green mana was singed and inaccessible, as if there had been a forest fire inside my body." (The fact that Kassim hadn't reacted to an elf using fire magic is something Vorin had actually taken note off and found comfort in. It made him think that there might be others like him. Then again, Estark seemed to be filled with weird types of everything, so maybe a fire elf isn't out of the question) "I've been training to use the red mana which I have been able to gather ever since that incident, but my body is still reject it, causing me pain whenever I summon that mana. That fight was a lot more intense than the little bit of training I've had, so the mana overtook me, but now that the mana I gathered has left me, I'll be as good as new."
The heat didn't really bother Vorin. The sun on Lorwyn beat down hard, and the heat felt somewhat comfortable given his new power.
"Well, I am elf and..." Vorin trailed off and got lost in his thought. This was the first time since his accident that he had acknowledged the fact that he was in fact an elf. Although when he lost his beauty he lost any power in an elven society, and no sane elf would acknowledge his existance (most would try to kill him), biologically, he was in fact an elf. Nevertheless, elvish code had been forgotten by him. Back when he was an elf, traveling with this....Estarkian would have been heresy. Yet, after being given such a daunting task, Vorin needed to prove his strength to this total stranger. Oh how everything had changed! A mere few days ago he would be killing such a random stranger, and now he was relying on one. If felt so wrong to be trying to prove himself in such a way. The perfects should be the only ones who have to prove himself to...
After a minute of thought, and completely forgetting he was in the middle of telling a story, Vorin turned to Kassim and simply asked, trying his best to be polite, "What are you?"
"No but....I'm an elf. And you, well you're much too tall to be a kthkin, but the spells you use make you seem like a merrow, but that can't be right either....never mind. Let's keep moving"
He knew elves would treat anything less beautiful than them as a foe, but he hoped there was an exception with this new species, though they certainly wouldn't meet his tribes standards. He decided to play on his ignorance. As far as he was concerned, traveling with this man was fine in the eyes of another elf. He had never heard of such an exception, but he was too far from the forest to care, and given Kassim's strength and wisdom, if seemed barely plausible.
Vorin had renounced his elvish lifestyle a few days ago, so he shouldn't care at all. But, this code was an integral part of him, so ignoring the will of the perfects would not come easily.
Human, human, human. Vorin was sure to keep that word in his head.
"Yes, I have, and hopefully they will teach me to channel the mana. But, you're right, no use dwelling in the past. Come on, I think we're almost there" Vorin said optimistically.
He's right. After all, there must be some reason I was sent here...
Vorin, who had been trying to conserve water throughout the trip quickly took out his own canteen and downed the entire thing upon seeing the oasis. This was a relief, but he was still exhausted, and drinking all the water so quickly made him a little sluggish. Drinking water still was an awkward sensation in his current state.
Listening to Kassim, he kept vigilant. He was reluctant to let down his guard in this small paradise, as anything could happen. Moreover, he didn't want to show any signs of weakness to his companion - he was trying to prove himself to be a worthwhile fighter, and collapsing and resting as he so wanted to do wouldn't accomplish anything. Kassim was still looking sharp, so Vorin would do the same.
However, Vorin was not doing as good of a job of feigning vigilance as Kassim was. With a few glances at Vorin, it would be obvious that he was exhausted.
He sat down and felt instant relief. His bruises had already been attended to, but he was exhausted from everything, so he just needed some time to relax.
After a few minutes of recovering, he turned to Kassim, "So where exactly are we headed?"
"Yeah sounds good. But don't you think this oasis would probably be the most concentrated area of mana in the desert. It's so lush and beautiful, there must be an abundance of mana here, right?"
Remembering how well it had worked in the city, Vorin stuck out his arm and concentrated his mana, producing a very small spark. He focused hard to see if he could find any sources of mana nearby. It was much easier to detect red mana (and users of it) this way, but he focused very hard to broaden his ability. He was particularly interested in the land below him.
OOC: I was sorting through a big pile of cards yesterday. I smiled a little bit when I found an Oasis (I never knew it existed). *GM2 crosses his fingers* (then again, there is more than one oasis)
Feeling confident and excited about finding a localized source of mana, Vorin channeled a small amount of red mana into his hand. His scars glowed as he shot a small concentrated ball of fire on the ground. The heavy concentration of mana in that ball of fire began to mix with the mana around them on the ground...
OOC: Vorin is attempting to connect to the mana around here.
