Len gives one last glance at the strange attractive qualities of the portal, checks to see Click is alright ([Thumbs Up]), and then starts the trek towards the strange popping sounds.
As Len begins his journey across the barren crags, the strangeness of the place becomes more apparent. Several visible mountains are floating above their bases. Some are dripping lava into great fissures in the earth. Some are so oddly shaped that they shouldn't stand at all.
His metallic arm acts a little strangely too. Whenever he is near the base of a mountain, his arm seems to very slightly pull toward it, as though the mountains were giant magnets of some kind.
Every once in a while, Len can hear rocks toppling off the sides of the mountains in small rockslides. This happens most often when his back is turned to the mountain in question.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
As Len walks, he can't help but feel a pang of regret. He slightly wishes that he was a good sketch artist like his sister. He could probably mold these fascinating mountains out of metal, but he doesn't feel like stopping for a few days to get it right.
These mountains must be incredibly heavy, if they are solid iron, Len thinks. That might be how that one is floating. Heavily charged magnets causing it to float...
After the third one of the rockslides, Len can't help but become suspicious. He reaches into his pouch, and pulls out Click. He holds him up to his mouth while he walks.
"If you see anything following us, poke me."
He places Click on the back of his neck, facing behind him. Click fixes himself between Len's cloak and vest, watching the peaks behind him.
Len keeps an ear out for the pops in front, and anything behind.
As Len walks, the rockslides continue. Click does indeed see something moving behind Len. Something small, red, and very quick follows. Where it moves, rocks tumble down the sides of the mountains. Either it is a teleporter or there are more than one, because mountains on both sides are subject to the slides.
The pops slowly get louder and louder over the next twenty minutes or so of walking. As Len gets closer to the source, he realizes what the noises are: Explosions. Large ones. There are several versions of the explosive noises: Huge, deep, booming ones that only happen occasionally. Sharp and quick ones that happen in rapid-fire succession. Deep rumblings that are more earthquake than explosion. Roars of flame that don't make a concussive blast, but more a whooshing noise of air filling the empty space the fire consumed.
They are close. Over the next ridge or two, perhaps.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
After observing a few of these, Click pulls out its signs, and starts looking for something that can represent whatever these things are.
Len is justifiably worried at the feel of these explosions. Something big is happening. Probably a battle, for all he knows. Common sense tells him that he should probably avoid this at all costs.
On the other hand, the inhabitants may be attempting to fight off an invasion of zealous mages bent on destroying every part of this beautiful world. Len starts up the next ridge when he feels a tapping on the back of his skull. He looks behind him, and then pulls Click around to his front. "You saw something?"
Click holds up a sign: [Carton of Eggs]
Len perplexes about this for a second before it hits. "A lot of somethings?"
[Thumbs Up]
He looks at the mountains surrounding him, and thinks back to the charred skeletal midgets back at the portal. "Small things? Like Goblins?"
[Thumbs Up]
"Great... Thank you. Tap me if they start getting close."
He puts Click back where he had been, and continues up the slope of the next ridge, walking carefully, and crouching as he reaches the top, maintaining a semblance of stealth.
As Len reaches the top of the crest, he sees the source of the explosions. A huge tower, with spikes atop it and molten metal flowing from the sides.
Pouring from the interior of the furnace are goblins. Many, many goblins. Before the furnace, two robed figures stand against them. Creatures, probably summoned by the two beings, slaughter goblins left and right. Occasionally, the figure on the left unleashes a blast of fire into a crowd of goblins, charring them to nothing.
The one on the right occasionally sends a blast of magic directly at the furnace. The resulting noise must be what Len had been hearing. The spell strikes the furnace, and the very earth responds to the blast. The earth trembles, rocks fall from mountains nearby, lava bursts forth in waves and sprays. What sounded like explosions were actually the earth itself protesting the furnace's demise.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
Len takes Click, and points it at the chaos. He points to the goblins. "Those the things following me?"
Click turns around to face Len. [Thumbs up], then he flips it over, [Thumbs down], and over again [Thumbs up].
"You can't tell. Great. Okay... time for some diplomacy. I really hope those things are goblins... and that they can understand me..."
He lowers himself below the ridge so he's out of line of sight, and hopefully out of earshot, of the two attacking the furnace. He points in their direction, and facing back the way he came, calls to the walls: "They hurt your land. They enemy." Taking a calculated risk, he draws red mana to him, calling upon the furnaces back home, but it feels almost like the red sun above him is feeding it. "I help you. They die. Land safe."
I really hope they're smart enough to understand my intentions... or at least smart enough to not attack me... at least they could be smarter than some of the assistants and test subjects back at Nivix...
From the surrounding rocks, figures emerge from their hiding spots. They watch Len apprehensively at first, but when he draws in red mana, they begin jumping up and down excitedly.
More explosive reactions happen behind Len, in rapid-fire succession.
The goblins scream as though the noise causes them physical pain. The sun of the metallic plane shines brighter above Len's head as his mana amplifies its saturating effects. He feels stronger, faster, better than ever in fact.
The goblins run to the lip of the ridge, pointing and screeching at Len. They appear to be trying to communicate with Len, but he cannot understand their primitive language. Then one, larger than the rest and holding an axe, moves to the edge of the ridge where he can see the battle below. He points to Len, then the small group of goblins around Len, then at the two mages. He points his axe at the backs of the attacking mages, and brings it down in a vicious chop. The rest of the goblins look at Len expectantly.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
The red mana around Len's natural hand crackles with the potential of lightning.
"Let's get them."
Len hopes his tone gives away his intentions to the goblins. His mechanical hand gets a good grip on the ridge. He bounces a few times, readying himself to leap over it. He then looks at the goblin leader, ready to move on his command.
Click, meanwhile, seals itself in its pocket.
I revealed Lightning Bolt from my hand to the goblin leader. I also have actions on my second main, just before or the instant of the charge. I want to cast a sorcery and a creature spell. The plan is that I'll have a second turn to play a land before I reach the enemy. If I look like I'm too close for that, let me know.
OOC: You're far enough away to be able to draw in two lands. Basically, you get two turns to prepare for the fight.
The goblins bounce up and down again, ready to charge. They fall in behind Len, screeching and hooting and speaking their strange language. The goblin leader points to Len, then to all of the goblins, then nods.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
Len whips up his fiery hand, and channels a spell he had never cast before. He knows it is a bit weak now, but the more he practices, the stronger it will become. He traces a runic rite in the air in front of him, causing more red mana to flare up in his hand. He throws it to the ground, summoning a creature native to this plane. Once it materializes with a "wheet?" Len surges forward, his mechanical hand propelling himself over the ridge, grabbing the Myr with his flesh hand and flinging it onto his back.
As he runs, he draws more blue mana to him, which coalesces on his right hand's fingertips like a watery glove. The sound of the goblins charging alongside and behind him thunders in his ears, yet despite this he swears he can hear the Myr, gripping his hair and cloak, squeak out something that sounds like "weee-heee!"
The two mages hear Len and his goblins approaching from the rear, but too late to prepare some kind of attack before they arrive.
"A trap!" the mage on the right, the one who has been blasting the furnace with magic, shouts. "Deal with them. I'll destroy the tower."
The mage on the left whirls around, drawing a longsword and preparing to do battle with Len. The mage's creatures form up in front of him, ready to defend and attack. He positions himself so that he is defending the other mage's back, making it impossible to attack without going through a wall of creatures.
