"The portal appeared a few miles off the path between Ravnica and Estark," Saffi says to the pair. "I do not know how long it will last, so you had best hurry."
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
OOC: Assuming you'd like to get this moving, we'll skip ahead a bit.
Venge and Len leave the city, heading for the countryside between Estark and Ravnica.
After several hours of travel and leaving the paved street for the countryside, Len and Venge begin to feel strange. A low, almost nonexistant pulse, as though something were slowly banging a huge drum. In front of them, a large cluster of trees sits ominously. The closer they travel to the trees, the deeper the pulse becomes.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
"Yes, I-" Venge's eyes suddenly narrow at the sign poking out of the human's pocket, "Some sort of mechanism to emphasize your questions?" He grunts, continuing toward the glade.

I'll bet you wish you had a non-unglued/unhinged card that shared your first name.
Venge's eyes sharpen on Click, then turn to a gaze softer than he has used for a long time. Then he speaks in a suddenly speculative tone, "Click. You speak to it as something with artificial intelligence. Probably magical in nature judging by its size." The Rhox reaches an open hand toward the contraption, palm up, a few inches away, "Trusting?"
Is Len's artificial arm visible right now?

Venge stares at the tiny contraption, which seems utterly minuscule in his large palm. He draws it in close, pokes it carefully, and makes a dismissive noise, then mutters under his breath, "Fragile. But could it repair itself? Not my place to test. Pity."
He holds the metal creature out to Len. "It seems useless. Is it?"

Len takes Click back with his artificial hand, and says "No, he's not. He helps me out when I'm experimenting with artifice. He's like an extra hand. Plus, he's been quite useful."
"As useful as a third hand?" Venge snorts, "You already have two. And can make more, either more dexterous or more powerful. It is a sentimental attachment. The only function it is truly optimized for is giving you a feeling of... companionship, I'd guess. Though I suppose I mind its uselessness much less than the filthy animals most cling to."
The Rhox turns his gaze back to the trees. "We should continue on then."

Len shrugs. "Well, he was also the first piece of artifice that I had created that was... well, independent. Alive..." He looks at Click. The little construct's iris snaps shut and open quickly.
Len puts the construct back in his pocket, and continues on. "Everything's got a use," he mumbles.
OOC: Click cannot feel the pulsing. Squishy meatbag organics only.
As Venge and Len walk into the trees, the pulsing grows much more powerful. The further they walk, the more distracting it becomes, and the more they begin to physically feel it.
About a half-mile into the trees, the pulsing becomes almost overwhelmingly... not loud, precisely, but something felt deeper in their beings that just their hearing, and literally painful as it hits their bodies.
From just a few yards deeper in the trees, a green light begins to flash, in rhythm with the pulses.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
Breathing heavily, Len continues forward. He does note that his arm can't feel this strange pulsing, but every other part of him can feel it like a punch.
"Does that look familiar to you?" he asks the Rhox.
"Not at all." Venge grunts, lengthening his strides to push through the glade. "But it seems like green mana, the mana of nature. I would not expect it around the portal to an artificial plane. Perhaps this is the cultists' doing?"

The pulsing seems to grow quicker as Len and Venge approach the portal. It seems as though soon it is going to grow more powerful, harming them both even more.
A warding measure, perhaps? Few non-mages would be willing to withstand constant pain just to explore this strange energy.
The green pulsing appears to be centered in the center of an almost perfectly circular gathering of trees.
From what Venge and Len know of magic, this would be an ideal place to create a portal, as the energy running through the natural tree formation would create a stable and precise entrance to another plane.

Len looks around at the trees, admiring the craftsmanship.
"I'd heard of planar portals being created with artifice, but... well I suppose it's possible to create a portal with natural components, but the enchantments required must require a tremendous amount of mana..."
He trails off, aware that Venge might not be the type for technical discourse.
"Once we're through," Venge says through gritted teeth. His eyes seem to be glowing red, and similarly colored lines seem to appear on one of his clenched fists, though the pattern is indistinguishable as his arms move quickly opposite his stride.
OOC: Venge is trying to use mana to shove some of the foreign mana away from himself. Basically, 1 red mana.

Len holds his mechanical hand in front of him. Blue mana forms on his fingertips, and he starts to channel it into a type of shield in front of him, attempting to stave off the buffeting.
Len and Venge feel their mana buffer the tide of the green pulsing, and it dulls it down to a simple rumble rather than a painful roar.
The portal seems to react to their conjured mana by begining to beat faster and higher. Then they notice something: The green light appears to be going dimmer very slowly.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
As Len and Venge swiftly move toward the portal, they suddenly feel as though their entire bodies are being compressed, expanded, and torn all at once. The pain is blinding, but only lasts for a split second.
When they regain their minds, they discover they are surrounded by mountains. But these mountains are... strange. Some float above their bases, some are twisted at impossible angles, but all are made of metal and covered in rust.
Five suns hang high in the sky, one of each color of mana. The red is brightest, glowing with ruby wrath above.
A wide path of destruction lays before them, corpses of small humanoids and larger metallic creatures strewn about. The ground smoulders as though half molten, and waves of heat shimmer from the twenty-foot wide swath of devestation. Something very violent happened here, and not terribly long ago.

The red sun heralds my arrival. Venge thinks, then almost chuckles at the foolishness of the notion.
Instead he sniffs, a huge gust of air rushes up his nostrils carrying with it the smell of blood, oil, and rust shavings. The mana from the mountains seeps into the Rhox, warming him to core upon contact, yet still as impenetrable and immutable as iron. Venge grins wide.
He mentally shakes himself from the scenery-intake and gets back to business. He turns around to make sure there isn't an obvious return portal.

"You didn't feel anything?"

"This is Click," Len says, by way of explanation. "It's... well let's just say it's my familiar for now."
"He is, a bit," Len says, holding his mechanical hand closer to the Rhox's huge one. The little contraption walks off of Len's, and onto Venge's.
"He's usually a good judge of character."
He holds the metal creature out to Len. "It seems useless. Is it?"
