The guards at the northern gate were monitoring traffic while keeping track of the comings and goings of the city's inhabitants...
Faust moves towards the gate and looks for a guard to let him out of Estark. I'm on a commision headed to Dars.
He didn't feel the need to explain further.
The guard nodded as he stamped Faust's papers and handed them back saying, "Careful on your travels north, there has been increased bandit activity and rumors of a killer along the road."
So now not only do I have to worry about a rampaging beast, but bandits and a murderer as well.
Faust sighs to himself, then thanks the guard for the warning. He heads out, increasing his guard determined to not let anyone sneak up on him.
The travel is easy going and without incident as he heads out from Estark. However as twilight began to fall upon the road, Faust noticed five lumpy shadows laying in the middle of the road. Though he could not tell what the shadowy lumps were from here, he was suddenly reminded that he had not seen one soul heading towards Estark...
The guard's warning instantly flashes into his mind. Victims of the bandits? Or bait for unwary travellers?
Keeping a close eye on the figures, he moves off the main road, trying to keep out of sight of onlookers by crouching low to the ground and moving behind any covers he can use, creeping steadily towards the shadows to try and get a better view.
Moving steadily, Faust finds himself in position a position to observe five human corpses, each with clear markings around the neck indicative of strangulation. Around the corpses are some dark markings, potentially blood that was spilled from the fight...
Faust felt a twinge of grief for the fallen.
However he was only able to spare a moment. He quickly scans the area for whoever did this, not wanting to fall to the same fate. Bandits who strangle? Would've thought they'd rather use weapons to kill their victims.
He moves forward along the side of the path, all the while crouching low and watching his surroundings. He didn't bother to check the corpses. Even if he was heartless enough to rob their belongings, he figured all their goods would have already been stolen.
Faust's scanning of the scene yields him the view of a barren road accompanied by the soft breeze of wind through the tree branches as twilight falls upon him...
His travel towards Dar continued uneventfully as nightfall continued to creep across the sky. Then as he came to the split in the road where one path went off towards Dars and the other towards Ravnica, he found two men walking from Ravnica. Both looked worried and slightly afraid.
As one of the men spotted Faust he called out saying, "Ho! If you were planning to head to Ravnica then you best think twice! We were on our way there until we saw a bandit attacking a man. Travel will be safer tomorrow when the sun is up!"
Thanks for the warning. But I'm headed the other way, towards Dars.
He wants to do something about these bandits plaguing the road, but he is unsure if his skills were up to the match. Perhaps if he had brought along another mage with him. He blames his greed.
As he starts to wave goodbye to the two men, a thought occurs to him. Just one bandit? Maybe if you two help me we can stop him from continuing his thefts.
The two look exasperated at the suggestion of taking on the bandit. To emphasize their feelings they show their palms empty of weapons to Faust and say, "We have no weapons nor experience in fighting. What could you possibly think us capable of doing in such a situation besides getting ourselves killed for a stranger?! No, I think it better for us to head to the safety of Dars. If you want to go hunting bandits than that is your business, not ours!"
With that they moved on intent on ignoring any further pleas to help attack bandits...
Faust shakes his head as the two left for Dars. I guess I should just follow them then.
It took awhile for him to realise he's travelling on the road towards Ravnica. Looks like my subconscience has other plans.
He palms his Cross, secretly glad that he's hunting bandits. Leaving this matter alone probably would've led to thoughts of regret later. He walks faster, trying to get to the bandits before it became to dark too see clearly, moving a few steps off the path to try and not let the bandits get the advantage of surprise.
The two left behind by Faust shrugged their shoulders and continued on to Dars leaving him in the sinking twilight.
Faust's pace is severely slowed down as he picks his way through the ditch laying at the side of the road. He quickly realizes that this stealth is going to cost him time, time the bandit's victim may not have...
This is too slow. I'm gona have to sacrifice stealth for speed.
Faust climbs up to the main road, and sets off at a light jog, trying to make up the time he had lost. Hopefully I won't be too late...
As he edges along the bend, Faust is able to see two figures fighting at the end of another bend. From his current position they look like simple shadows. One does seem to be giving off a glint of moonlight around the face area whenever he turns quickly. The other man is clearly channeling a mana of some sorts...
He inches closer, trying to determine which is the bandit and which is the victim. It appears the victim is putting up a good fight, hopefully things don't take a turn for the worse.
It's hard to from physical appearance which is the bandit as both combatants look eager to kill the other. The man in black with the silver mask looked to be a fairly skilled swordman and incapable of channeling mana. The other man was clearly channeling mana but did not appeared to have cast a single spell yet.
You can recall however that the bodies you saw earlier were choked to death and lacking any wounds that a sword would inflict. In fact you remember that there were a few dagger wounds on those dead and can now see from this distance that the mana user is wielding a dagger of his own...
There! It must be him! Those wounds I saw earlier were too small to be made with a sword.
Having pinpointed the bandit Faust starts gathering mana to himself. Hold on. It doesn't look as if he's done anything yet...
He watches the two carefully. The swordsman looks capable of defending himself. He inches closer to try and get a good grasp of the situation, ready to help the victim if he needs it.

Time seemed to slow down for the two combatants as they circled each other, slowly eying the other waiting for the other to make a move...
I'm having to wait for a response in another thread. If i don't get that response by Friday then I will continue the story with my actions taking lead.
OOC: May i continue to channel mana?
Tension in the air was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Faust starts to grow uncomfortably hot beneath his cloak even though the sun was setting. What are they doing?
Yes, you can continue channeling mana... in one more day!
I hate to make you wait but it would not be fair to the other player involved if I allowed you to continue drawing mana out of the turn order. Things will be moving by this Friday, one way or another.
Update: proceed here to this thread until the end of this conflict. It's Faust's turn, drawing on more mana will make Falin aware of Faust.

With one last quick look around, he starts walking again to Dars, at a faster pace as he notices the light changing.
