She smiles. "From what I've seen of Lorwyn's people, Deraxas, I can understand your suspicion."
There's some rustling off to their left. Tayal's gaze snaps in that direction, and fear fills her face. "We'd better go," she says, and starts to get up. With a stifled yelp, she falls onto her knees.

Five elves come out of the brush to the left. Deraxas finds she is between them and Tayal. All five elves look proud, standing tall. One, a huntmaster, has two wolves flanking her.
They look at Deraxas with a look of disgust on their faces.
The man leading them draws his sword with a flourish, and holds it ready.
"Who are you, who know the elven tongue, and protect an eyeblight?" he says, with all the contempt she has known and grown up with.
"I am who I am, and I don't need to explain myself to some jumped-up egotist with a pointy stick and an attitude! I suggest you take your hunt elsewhere, lest you find your prey a little too well protected. This one is with me." Deraxas indicates Tayel.
With plenty of arrogance of her own, she looks the five up and down with a look that could wither stone.
"You can't even keep track of your own forest, what with the boggarts trying to raid! The trees have been put to the knife, and you care about a woman alone? How can you call yourself a master of the hunt? You hunt nothing of consequence!"

He glances at the huntmaster. She looks at her wolves. They sniffle around, and they only growl in Deraxas' direction.
"Well, this... changeling... somehow infiltrated our city, and replaced the Tayal we know. So, my hunt is for our Tayal. If we have to cut through you and the eyeblight, then so be it."
"You have no idea what you're dealing with, here. To rush in without full knowledge could be your downfall. I am not here to take life, but if I have to..."

Deraxas eyes the quintet and instantly knows that she can't trust them with the truth.
Even if she did change, I hope this Tayel's people survive the contact with her counterpart.
"There's strange mana in the area. Perhaps the fae have been buzzing about, I don't know...and I can't be sure until I finish testing. I do know that I have tested the truth of this woman's words, and I know she is not lying."
Deraxas shrugs, standing with her head cocked. She allows her natural aura to flow over her, hoping that her skill would become apparent to them in such a way as to attest to the veracity of her words.
"I know about the phenomenon because I have been tracing it and studying it. Your intrusion upon this matter could cost me a lot of time and effort. I need this one to continue my studies, for she's experienced it."

Whether it's the words, her aura, or both is uncertain, but something does cause some hesitation.
"Experienced what?" he scoffs, but there's a hint of confusion in his voice. "I haven't seen any fae around recently."
At these words, another looks confused. "Actually, I haven't seen any fae in the past day or so... there's usually a few of those pests who try to make their way into Lys Alana, but today, nothing."
"Look harder. Those pests are everywhere, and I'm betting they have something to do with this.
Look, we are travelling outside your territory as of now. Leave us and tend to your homes and your forest. It's safer that way."
And less messy when I don't have to unleash Hell upon you.
"They've mastered illusion- they could be cloaking their presence with an uimage of what's behind them, which would make you not see them.... and if this is a fae trick, memories could be altered."
Deraxas looks angry at this thought.
"If we part, not as friends, but in truce, it is better for all of us in the end."
Even though I despise what they stand for, this would be a fight I can't win, likely.

Trying to play along, Tayal nods. "This woman has helped me understand this phenomena. If she has been moved as I have, then in a few hours, she will reappear in your village."
They hold their gaze for a few moments beyond the comfort point.
The lead elf then looks at the other elves, and they start to run back to Lys Alana.
He comes over to Deraxas, and leans down towards her.
"If you are lying," he says, "then there will be nowhere you can run. We will hunt both of you down and slaughter you both like the eyeblights you are."
He then turns and makes for the elven village.
Tayal slumps down on the tree again, breathing heavily.
"And you too." Krensae takes a few deep breaths before loping off towards the Wanderwine. If a reverse kithkin is paranoid...what would a reverse merrow be? Hmm...

After a while of moving, Krensae realizes that he's still almost a half-hour away from the Wanderwine. Looking up in the sky, he realizes that this is the point of no return: he won't be able to make it back to Kinsbaile before sundown if he keeps going.
Deraxas:
Tayal grabs her sword, and using it almost as a crutch, stands up. "Lead the way."
The four of them can handle whatever happens at the kithkin village. And this time, I don't need to wait for a merrow to guide me there... Krensae touches a couple of his gems.
