"So that you are prepared. And you know what is happening. I don't believe it will suddenly switch to permanent night; but flashes between the two where people or maybe even areas of land switch between each. And maybe we can go into that other land and rescue the ones who WERE switched. Wouldn't you be glad to know that somewhere your kin are still alive?"

"Yes, I would," Key says, looking strange. "But what makes you think—"
Deraxas:
The sun starts to dip below the horizon.
"I don't know," Tayal says. "I hope I'll see it again."
The gates to Kinsbaile come into view.
"Wait, you're taking us to Kinscaer?" Tayal says, a little bit of fright apparent. "Shouldn't we slow—"
Aramil and Wynn:
Aramil can sense Deraxas approaching, and he can barely sense Krensae at the edge of his senses.
Gaddock looks up at Aramil. "As ready as we will be..." he says. "I still don't know—"

The sun set.

Krensae:
Key's light winks out. He stops mid-sentence.
Krensae's plunged into darkness.
Deraxas:
"—down?" Tayal finishes.
As Deraxas and her steed leap out of the treeline, they transform into gnarled, dark, withered versions of their former beauty. The gate ahead of her looks much more fortified.
Aramil and Wynn:
It's as if they were standing in one world one instant, and in another in the next. Aramil nearly buckles as the elemental within him shudders, and he senses almost every single mind within his senses change in that instant.
The Kithkin soldiers around them are staring at them, their swords drawn.
"I will not tell you again!" Gaddock says, glaring at them with wide, bright, irisless eyes. "Get out of my doun!"

Tayal looks behind her. "Wait, I recognize those trees," she says.
As Deraxas thinks about it, it was like an instantaneous transformation. She caught a glimpse of Kinsbaile before getting out of the treeline, and it looked like the gate she left by originally. Now, it looks like it is closed, and definitely barred.
Everyone outside right now can tell the sky is definitely overcast, when it hadn't been before.
"My group may still be in there. And... this is what your home, Shadowmoor, looks like? The poor trees... but I have to see if I can talk to them..."
Deraxas thinks.
The thought that crosses her mind makes her want to curl up in a ball and hide, but she thinks she might be able to contact them, even from here.
"Tayel, can you watch for a moment? I want to try something."
She closes her eyes and thinks very hard of Aramil, knowing that the mindmage tended to look into the thoughts of others as a matter of course.
<Aramil. Can you hear me? It's Deraxas. No, don't even DARE answer. I am outside, with a friend. Something weird has happened. Try and leave, I'm not going in.>

Krensae draws his blade. "Key. Why did the light go out?" Krensae's muscles are tense, ready to swing at anything hostile. He reaches for where he remembers his ally being last to pull Surge closer. If he goes down, I won't last long down here.

Aramil's hands flew to his head, the shear mental trauma of having his mindnet torn to shreds, only to be replaced with a completely different collection nearly crippled him.
Instinctively, Aramil tried to draw mana to himself.
A second later, he let out a blood-curdling scream as he felt no response from his mana.
Though he sent nothing, Deraxas could hear his scream in her head. It sounded like an echo.
It's the tone of a predator who has found its prey.
It also illuminates Krensae's Surgespanner, shoved up against the wall. He looks the same, but has a terrified expression on his face. A dagger is against his throat.
"Well," he smiles. "What have we here?"
Aramil and Wynn:
The Kithkin immediately turn their swords at Aramil.
"What's wrong with him?" Daniel says, drawing a dagger as well.
Wynn becomes aware of someone hyperventilating next to her. It's Brigid, seemingly unchanged by whatever force that has changed the world around her.
"AW, DAMN it." Deraxas feels the mental backlash and her mind shuts down for an instant, just long enough that she loses utter control of her summon, causing it to vanish.
"Oh sweet mother Nature I will NEVER do that again!" she cries.
"Aramil's hurt. He's.... weird, but he's a friend. I can't leave him in there." Deraxas says to Tayel, jerking her thumb at the barred gate. "It's not right."
She stands up, rubbing her temples from a sudden sharp pain.

There's a yelp of pain as Tayal lands on the ground behind Deraxas. She pushes herself up.
"Okay, so we're back hom— er, on Shadowmoor. The Kithkin here are paranoid, and feel that anyone trying to get in is an enemy... I've never tried to get someone out, though."
Aramil, Wynn, Xen:
Brigid tugs Wynn, dragging her along. "Come on, do as Aramil says."
"Go on, all of you!" Daniel says. He looks very stressed at these strangers in the middle of his village. He's standing in front of Gaddock, protectively.
As they make their way to the gate, they run into another group of Kithkin, escorting Xen. They move him into the group making its way to the exit.
Krensae:
"Well, we're in a bit of a pickle here," Key says, looking at Krensae. "You and your schoolmate here have stumbled on our little hideaway, and we can't have that. And what do you mean two?" he says, glancing around. "You aren't the only ones here?"
Burning Ashes. Kithkin become paranoid and Merrow become...theives?"Well...it seems my luck has ran out. I'm guessing you don't know about the day-Lorwyn Key. Interesting. This makes my position even worse, because I don't know where the switched person actually goes." Krensae sighs. "I'm assuming I'll have to give you something...everything I have and hope that is enough so you don't kill me or leave me to drown?" IG: The water crashes onto him, forcing the air from his lungs with a horrible crunching sound from his ribs. An intense pain sears through him at this, as he feels other bones crack and crunch at the sudden, intense pressure. His vision starts to tunnel as his body and mind start to fail.

And this is all I have learned? There was so much more...
I never did get to see what this coral looked like before they harvested it. All I did was get my ally killed. He was just helping...me...
Xen was quite fascinated with everything that had happen. Within a split-second the whole plane had transformed before his eyes. When he had looked around for the Kithkin to talk to he noticed their physical changes as well as their defensive attitude. Seeing as he was alone at the time and he harbored no desire for harming the Kithkin he made a simple decision. He would smile softly and let them guide him to wherever they felt the safest with him.
Surely enough they were moving him outside where he was soon escorted with Wynn and Aramil. Noting the anguish painting Aramil's face, Xen frowned momentarily before offering him support on their way out...
Wynn is troubled. The night sky looked so different...so sinister, she couldn't explain it but it just didn't feel right. And now this, the kith that had invited them in were hellbent on keeping them out. Something didn't add up, but what?
"No."
A simple word, but the power it contained...her blue magic had overtaken the girl's mind, her eyes sharp and darting at everyone. Something was wrong. And Wynn felt that he might have a chance to fix it. And it was a chance the girl would not surrender.
"You invited us in, on your own free will, and I for one am not going to leave without a reason as to why you've suddenly changed your minds. You brought us here to help you be rid of a curse you fear may have befallen your land, and we cannot be of use if you don't let us do our jobs. And one of your own, why do you want her to leave you? She has served this clachan her whole life, and now you intend to discard her like yesterday's rubbish? Have you no sense of decency, Cenn Teeg?
We can help you, but only if you let us. I beg of you to grant us that chance."
Wynn had drawn her staff, holding it at arm's length in an effort to protect Brigid. If they had a valid reason for not wanting them there, she would leave. Better to be on the inside of a fortress than the outside.

The Kithkin, slightly taken aback at this outburst, glance among themselves. It seems as though a silent conversation is taking place. Aramil, in his addled state, is only dimly aware of the whisperings; he can't quite sense what they're saying.
"What's a 'clachan,'" Daniel asks in a whisper.
"Whatever curse has befallen this land," Gaddock says to Wynn, "the doun of Kinscaer will handle it. Alone. As we always have. I don't know what's happened to Brigid, but whatever it is, she's no longer one of us. Take her with you."
Brigid gasps at this.
"Now, get out!"
The swords, as one, shove forward until they are mere inches away.
Wynn backed up more, not totally yielding but making sure it was clear that she didn't want anyone to be harmed, while beating back the occasional sword that strayed dangerously close to either her or Brigid. Her other self was still in control and spoke again for her.
"You're paranoid. You're scared. I can see that; that's why you wanted US to help you. and we want to help you, but it requires trust."
Wynn blinked. Trust? Was that really all they needed? her mind was her own, and she was lost in it currently, having stopped her speech dead. Why would they trust her? How could they, given the rampant fear and paranoia that had so far gripped almost every kith here, and threatened to claim the hearts of others, herself included? There was no trust, there was not even kinship.
They were scared for their lives. And no amount of diplomacy could possibly eliminate unguided fear. In a sense, she had been scared as well, of the mind mage who had threatened her earlier and set her off not once but twice before they even entered this place. But she definitely knew how powerful fear could warp one's mind, so she conceded.
"Very well, Cenn Teeg. We shall exit, but we will not be far. If my words cannot convince you, perhaps my magic will fare better..." She thought back and remembered something that might help them.
"That reminds me, earlier you sent riders from here to Several other kith settlements. We will be nearby and willing to offer aid should any of them return...as a good-faith gesture. Will that be all?" The girl wanted to exit on her own terms, because maybe, just maybe...she could crack through the fear, by being herself.
