Checking for any signs to indicate the allegiance of those inside, Mar approached the door. He rapped twice, then stepped back to wait for an answer from within.
The walls seemed devoid of any sign of his allegiance. It's as though the mas has eschewed the guilds altogether. "Enter." A curt voice called out from the other side.
Interesting. If I didn't know about the debt this man has acquired, I'd be impressed by the ability to get this spire without guild alliance.
Hearing the voice, Mar opens the door and walks inside.
The man smiled. He stood, and walked towards Mar, non threateningly, but confidently. "Hmmm...I guess the time's here. You look like a sporting man, though."
The man paced slightly. "I have a proposition. I challenge you to an arena duel. If I win, I get off scot free. If you win, I pay double what I owe. What do you say?"
Mar looks curiously at Argem. "Why would I do that? If you can pay double, then you are capable of paying that which you owe. It would be far simpler to do that and be on with your life."
"I have never been a gambler. Besides, part of gambling is to never stake something unless it doesn't matter, and I'm sorry to say that I did give my word that I would collect upon it. And I don't break my word."
Surprised by this act of aggression, Mar attempts to call upon his connection to the quicksand fields he found himself in upon arriving in this plane, and bring a small piece of them to his location. This is getting bothersome. Let's see if I can delay these guards with this.
"Its not very sporting to threaten, even implicitly. And your offer included no word of the conditions for victory or loss. But, if you desire a fight this badly..."
The man smiled. "Oh, I do, I do. You seem strong...strong enough to give me a challenge. The criteria is quite simple. I win, I pay nothing. I lose, I pay double. I fail to see the issue."
Silently, Mar makes his way to the door, but he pauses right before taking it.
"Seeing as how you've obviously been waiting for a chance to fight, and since you seem to like to be sporting, I don't suppose you could afford me time to set up before you begin?"
With that said, Mar steps through the door, though the ready agreement to his request causes a certain amount of suspicion. Unlike the others, this debtor had a plan ready to enact, and that makes him a threat.
