OOC: This thread is for Mar/Avatar of Lag and myself. Anyone other than another WPL who posts here without my permission will be fed to my Simic Enhanced bunnies. Thank you, and have a nice day.
As Mar reads the sheet of paper, the first name stands out, possibly because of the large sum owed.
"Saem Lockhart. Owes 3500 gold. 5 months in arrears. Can usually be found around the Boros garrison."
With that Lucian produced a small crystal. "This may be handy. You'll know when to use it."
That's quite a sum. What did Saem need that much for? Not my business, though. Still, I wonder. Mar paused in his perusal when the crystal was offered. He just happens to have a prepared list and a useful crystal on hand? Nevertheless, Mar accepts the crystal and examines it closely. "Interesting." Tucking it into an inner pocket in his left sleeve, close at hand, Mar prepared to leave, then hesitated.
"I am faced with one final question. How much... discretion is desired here? For example, if a debtor are in a public location, is it acceptable if bystanders learn of the debts owed, or should confrontations be made in as private a location as possible? Or does it not matter all?" Mar asks just prior towards heading off towards the garrison.
Though I have some guesses about the purposes of the crystal, I don't suppose Mar can tell what, if anything, it does?
Mar senses...nothing about the crystal. Not that it's not unique, it's the complete absence of anything that he finds unique. "Try and keep the confrontations private, but collecting is paramount. Do as you must."
"I always do. I shall find you when I am done."
With that, Mar turns, and headed towards the Boros Garrison. Well, towards the highest concentration of Boros symbols, anyway, in the assumption that even if that was not the garrison it would be location where the location of the garrison could be discovered from.
As Mar walked through the city, his mind kept wandering back ot the strange crystal. The novelty of the lack of emanations was both interesting and slightly worrisome. Perhaps I should have inquired further into the purposes of this thing, though I have my suspicions. There are only so many things one can do with nothing, after all. But, I'm fairly certain my questions will be answered soon, he thinks as he turns a corner and finds himself at a destination.
Looking around, Mar notices the apparently off duty members of the legion. Best to avoid a scene. I don't want to attract too much attention. If I just hang around eavesdropping, that would be to suspicious. Best to be direct and polite. Mar approaches whichever one of the relaxed figures seems the least busy, and waits for an opportune moment to begin talking.
"Pardon me, but I have a message to deliver, and was wondering if you know where I might find a ... Sa-im Lockheart, I think was the name of the intended recipient."
Bah. This could easily turn ugly.
Observing the crowd for a few moments, Mar sighs. Saem couldn't be at home, with the funds in a bag by his feet, could he. No, there'd have to be a crowd. And worse, an excitable crowd of gamblers. Mar sighed again. Nothing for it, I suppose. The only question is whether Lockhart runs this or is run by it. Not that it matters one way or the other.. Walking to the edge of the crowd, Mar finds someone not actively participating in the game. "How roll the bones today? Oh, and you wouldn't happen to be able to point out Saem Lockhart, would you?"
Given that Mar is, while relatively new to Estark, not new to civilization, does he recognize the game being played/is it craps?
"Thank you." Given no particular urgency... he can't dice forever. Eventually he will run out of money or time and need to go eat or sleep. I'll just wait until then, when this crowd is less raucous. Hopefully.
Mar takes up a vigil near the edge of the crowd, waiting for the moment when Lockhart is not surrounded by the crowd, or at the very least, is not the center of attention, when he plans to move in and... initiate conversation.
Seeing this, Mar straightened from the slouch he had fallen into, and briskly moved to parallel Lockhart's path. Let's try not to appear confrontational. I doubt it will help, though. Seems like the die were against him. Better be prepared for attempts at flight or fight. Prepared to swing his walking staff to trip if Lockhart thought he could outrun his debts, Mar began to talk.
"Good day, Mr. Lockhart. I am here to talk about a debt you might have. Specifically, the paying off of said debt."
Mar sighed. "Does it really matter who I am? All that matters is that you have debts, debts that have been unpaid for too long." Mar paused, then continued on. "Perhaps if you recited your debts in a monotony of growing horror, as well as who you owe and the penalties for failure, you might realize who it is that I am here for. Oh, and limit yourself to monetary debts, if it makes you feel any better."
"Bother." Mar follows, trying to keep Saem in sight and close the distance in order to sweep his legs out from under him with a staff. All of my spells kill, and I'd rather not do that. This would be much easier if I only had some way to pacify him.
Mar continues the chase, vexed and annoyed at this futile attempt at escape. Not taking his eyes off of the fleeing figure, he relies on peripheral vision to warn him of others taking notice and alarm, but can't help but wonder what exactly he's going to do once he catches up. He ran , so I followed, but if he doesn't have the funds... what exactly do I collect?
