Gully follows closely behind Aggron. As she decends she has her gloves light up, bathing a small area in a eerie green light. Once she can see enough to get her footing she walks towards Aggron. Seeing him sniffing around she asks in a hushed tone:
He manages to catch the scent through the murky sewer smell. It doesn't seem to be human blood. However, it does stir old memories from Jund; it was amazing how much goblin blood smelled similar, even plane-to-plane.
Aggron sniffs again, just o be sure--but it doesn't change; that's goblin musk. <Goblins. Or rather, their blood. I'd be willing to bet they're involved in this conflict somehow. And it's the only lead I got.>
Carefully, Aggron lowers himself down onto his hands, his body shifting slightly to accommodate the new posture. He sniffs around, trying to find where the blood smell is strongest. <It's coming from...over here, I think. Want to investigate?>
As Aggron travels along the sewer, he can smell... something. Something that feels very familiar, but he can't place it.
The scent of blood increases as he travels down a passage, until he comes to a T junction. The liquid on the ground is lower here; just as well, because it reveals two plant-creatures Aggron remembers seeing in one of the Rot-Farms. It also reveals the bodies of four goblins, with a skull symbol on their shoulders.
Two questions, before a real post:
1). Is the skull-symbol the Rakdos guild crest? Aggron knows it from wandering around Ravnica.
2). Is the unfamiliar smell coming from the plant-creatures?
1: Yes it is, but the flames look to be directly attached to the skull symbol instead of just above it.
2: The smell wasn't unfamiliar. It was very familiar. The plant creatures were part of it, but not the whole of it.
<Well, here we go--> Aggron pauses as he reaches the bodies. He sniffs a little, confirming the smell, but then he looks hard at them.
<Something is very wrong here, Gully. See those markings? That looks a lot like the Rakdos guild symbol--but it's not quite the same.> He straightens slightly and begins weaving mana with his hands, creating a glowing green symbol. <This is what all the ones I saw in town looked like. I think someone might be trying to frame the Rakdos. Or maybe there's a separate group in the cult with an altered symbol. But I'm not sure the Rakdos did this.>
He gestures with his tail. <Those are definitely Golgari corpses, though. I think we're getting closer.>
Gully shines her gloves' gems' light over the bodies to examine them briefly as she listens to Aggron. After looking at the symbol at he makes she re-examines the one on the Goblins.
Agreed, but which way? Is there still a sent to follow?
She asks as she shines her light down one way and then the other looking for more clues.

The visual trail descends into the muck. The scent trails off to the left at the next junction. Gully's light doesn't appear to reveal anything. To Aggron, he can now make out that the familiar scent is human. Mostly.
<This way.> Aggron gestures off to the left. <It's a person I know from somewhere--a human, I mean. I don't know all that many humans on this plane, so I should be able to figure it out...just need to keep thinking.>
Aggron keeps following the smell, but his brain is distracted, thinking through all the humans he knows so well in Dominaria...
I'm pretty sure I know who this is, but I'm not sure when Aggron's supposed to figure it out...
I'll let you know when you figure it out, unless you want to try a d20 wisdom check. Each roll will get a cumulative +1 mod due to exposure to the scents.
I'm assuming I don't just get to shout names and have you tell me they're wrong...
't think so, unless you have some memory-boosting powers. The problem is, I wasn't really thinking about people's smells when I was with them. It's something people forget to disguise, so I should have been doing that all along. Stupid civilization, clouding my predator instincts.>
Aggron keeps walking through the muck. <We can still keep following them, though, and the longer I'm on this trail, the more likely I am to recall it.>
Gully says as they continue to trudge through the muck.
Civilization. City life. It is stifling. It cuts us off from Gaea and dulls all of our instincts.
<It's more true than I had ever realized. I only recently reconnected with my green side, so before that I didn't even realize what I was losing.> Aggron pauses for a moment and looks at Gully for a long moment. <Now is probably not a good time, but when this is over, I'd really like to hear your story. I still can't figure out why someone who at least looks like a human youngling is so wise.>
Also I have your scent memorized now. I hope I don't ever need to track you, but now I can.
Thank you. I have a feeling that we will be spending some time together after this is done since I intend to join the Golgari, potentially with your help; I agree that a story trade can and should wait until then.
Aggron can now tell: There are definitely two scents there. One of them is a fellow warlock... Cyouni, he thinks the name is. The other scent is wrong. Very wrong. He can't tell exactly what it is, but it feels wrong.
They reach a junction, and here is the strong evidence of a battle. One of the tunnels off this area is blocked; they can't tell by what from this distance. There is a strange plant-zombie creature, with bits of other plants attached to it, and a Golgari Guildmage.

What do you smell?

Gully says quietly as she follows.

They see two pairs of footprints in the mud around the bodies, heading down one way. The familiar smell seems to follow these footprints.
He pauses, then begins following the footsteps, sniffing carefully to confirm that the scent is following. 't place it right now.>
Aggron keeps following the smell, but his brain is distracted, thinking through all the humans he knows so well in Dominaria...
Is there anything that I can do to help you figure it out?
