Empty Square looks over the map. "I don't think any transportation will be necessary. It looks like a fairly simple route. Besides, a little jaunt through the countryside could do us all some good, eh?" He pats Easud on his stomach for emphasis. "I'm ready to go when everybody else is."
Osark nods his head. "I'm sure that walking will not do us anything but good. Besides, on the ground, we may find evidence that we may have missed in the air. Any method of travel is satisfactory to me, except by boat." He shudders. "I tried it once. I didn't like it. So, do we start now, or do we wait for Easud to finish his tea? I can finish it for you if you want." He saunters over and glances into Easud's cup. "Eugh. Maybe not." Slinging his satchel on his back, he waits for the rest of the group to make a move.
OOC: That's inter-forest rivalry for you. Osark comes from Llanowar
Easud looks indignant at The Empty Square's comment, I am a fine weight, thank you very much! And yes, I will finish my tea and we can go.
Easud gulps down his tea and looks down at the map to see if there are any black mana producing landmarks near where he is going. Well, not off to the best of starts but whatever.
"Shall we get a move on, then?" Osark asks. "Square, you're the one with the map. Lead on." He turns to Frankie. "When this is over, remind me to speak to Quen about his takeaway service. What's the use of a cup of tea if you can't take it on an adventure?"
"Very well, let's head southwest in the direction of the Green Lands. There should be a river and perhaps one or two forests that we'll have to go through." Empty Square leads the group out the door.
Jogging after the Empty Square, Easud trys to get a better look at the map. Hey, Square, if you don't mind me calling you that, d'you see any places that look like they might be swamps or produce black mana?
But then Easud's eyes light up as though he were struck with sudden inspiration. He snatches the map from Empty Square's hands and darts off towards Saffi & Han's Emporium. Seeing that the other mages are not coming he yells back Come on you guys! I thought we could ask an expert about any landmarks near where we are going.
Empty Square lets out a sigh. "Dear me, he's going to be a handful." He shouts back to Easud, "For the record, I don't mind being called Square. In fact I encourage it. It's less of a mouthful that way!"
"No! Easud, come back!" Osark hollers. But it is too late. Easud has already disappeared into Saffi's enclosure. He turns back to look at the others, saying "Is it just me, or is Easud a red mage masquerading as a black one? Think about it- impulsive, reckless, fat- the whole set. Not that I mean any disrespect towards red mages, of course. I know some very good ones." He turns back and sprints into Saffi's.
EDIT:
OOC: RP continues- and ends- in Saffi's thread.
IC:
Osark returns from Saffi's shop. "Apparently, Saffi does not know of any mana-producing lands on our route. Unfortunate, but I'm sure that can be worked around. However, she did say that the surroundings would be more conducive for me and Tai, as well as Square when we get near the sea. Poor Easud." He smiles.
OOC: I'm presuming that there's a +1 modifier on dice for us.
After giving the mapa close examination, Osark says, "Hmmm, it does look very easy on the map itself. However, I'm sure that all of us know that maps can often be decieving, especially in the wilderness. It's quite possible that that's what happened to Sidar Jabari- lost in th wild because he trusted his map too much. Anyway, let's go." He starts striding off, trying to get to Sidar's last known location.
The four magi head out of the city and begin their long foot trek through the plains of Kush and the regions beyond. At about ten days outside the city . . .
OOC: I want all of you to roll me a d20. WUBRG, you have a -1 modifier to your roll; GigaGuess, you have a +1 modifier; Square and eddy, you have no modifier.

Someone once asked me why, when I talk about House Dimir, I don't put the word "the" in front of it.
At the time, I had no answer, but it just came to me.
Do we put the word "the" in front of God?

OOC: Sorry for the double-post, but I don't know how editing works w/ dice rolls.
IC: Easud has a sudden pensive look to him Well, here I go again, into unfamiliar and unfriendly lands. But for what? To further my power? For exploration's sake? just for kicks? Hey, Tai, why do you go out adventuring?
Tai looked at Easud passively, and speaks in hushed tones. "I...ah...seek something that was taken from me. I have searched for many long years, and have found nothing. Now please, speak no more of this. We needn't attract undue attention to ourselves in the wild"
Osark speaks up. "Tai speaks truth, Easud. There are plenty of things that can get the jump on us when we are in the wild. Or have you forgotten what I said to you is Saffi's emporium? Anyway, we can discuss more when we make camp."
OOC: To answer the RP-ing question: these rolls are perception rolls (or, for those of you who play D&D, spot checks). RP-ing them is kinda hard, but if you want to try, I won't stop you.
Also, only WUBRG and Square get to act before the creatures arrive.
IC: Four spined and finned beasts come loping towards the four magi, slavering with territorial anger and hunger.
OOC: Those who get to act get one turn and then the creatures are upon the group.

Osark, engaged in berating Easud in the follies of not paying attention in the wild, is caught off guard by the sudden assault, along with Tai. Momentarily disoriented, he can only vaguely discern the shapes of Square and Easud turning to combat the beasts.
The two people talking about alertness get caught off guard, he thinks. Oh, the irony.
Then looking at Frankie Actually, will we need any transportation, or will we be walking the whole way?
