Scouts have reported that the city of Estark is under attack by a horde of very powerful machines and an unknown enemy. According to the Pacts under which our city is run, one representative of each house shall be called upon for this mission. Messengers have already been sent out to gather together representatives of each house to combat this monstrosity. Those who have been summoned are to sign this sheet to secure their arrival. Successfully defending this city will result in 1000 gold to be divided among the survivors.

The place isn't necessarily in chaos, but the gate is opened for the defenders of the city to walk through. They see off in the distance 6 Dragon Engines barreling from the northern mountains. They are headed at this point directly towards the city gates.
All of the mages have time to assume their positions and get in a full round of preparation. After each player posts their first turn and their starting positions, the battle will begin.
For 4 turns, your group will be joined by 2 1/1 Soldier creature tokens with Defender. Each tower has 1 Crossbow Infantry equivalent for now. Therefore, 4 creatures assigned to defend the gate are now on your side. You may also call these soldiers to you if you deem it necessary.
The Gate has 20 life points. Each point of damage beyond that removes 50 gold from the quest reward. In other words, protect the gate!
Good luck! Take your initial turns and get into position now.
Wynn is the first of the mages out of the gates, and quickly gets to work preparing herself for the task ahead. Quickly making hand signs, she slammed her hand onto the ground outside.
"Forbidding Watchtower!" As she said it, the gleaming white citadel appeared, stoic in the face of the ensuing chaos. She quickly turned to the red and green mages.
"you guys have any way to blow these up?"

*OOC: My next turn is devoted to prayers, I will not summon or call on lands, the out come of my prayer is up to GM's*
(see I give you Gm's a world of fun)
OOC: LOL!
OK, people, it seems that your fifth partner isn't showing up yet. Just for the sake of keeping things fair and on the plan, I will control him for this post.
Kashani barrels through the gates. "I heard the call --... oh crap. Already..."
He moves into the field a bit closer as he grasps his mana packet from his satchel, turning the land before him, and the gate, close to the river, into a swampy bog. If only he could make it muddy enough to halt the Engines...
The engines get closer, and very quickly. The five now notice that there is some mana connection on the backs of these guys... something from an outside force may have the ability to power them. Likely that "puppeteer" who is leading this whole thing... but how much power does he have? You can't be sure at this point...
They are getting close, pretty much over the hills, and will very soon be within striking distance of the gate.
On an unrelated note, the group sees the red mage start to go off and pray for a bit. He seems to look highly unusually as he does so
This sounds like something that I would LOVE to have some fun with... but Brother Tyler's prayers for the moment go unanswered. That says nothing for the future though... thanks for the inspiration
The Unforgiven - Final Fantasy 6
The Dragon Engines are now attacking. 4 more Dragon Engines are on the horizon, and will arrive at the same rate as the first engines (basically attacking next turn). All of the current Dragon Engines are going after the gate. (6 of them in total)
You may take one more turn cycle and assign blocks at the end of the turn cycle.
Until Kashani shows back up, I will control him as an NPC.
OOC: I'm personally fine with what you have done here, it would just be your partners who may question your action. (Kashani is ok with it :p) I would now like to let you know that you may still take your turn to do stuff yourself, don't need to bind yourself to the prayer (Although, you do get +2 coolness points for the good role play! ^_^)
Devlyne calls forth an island and summons a strange fountain of sickly, white appendages in the path of the dragon engines. He mentally directs it to tie one down with its sticky tentacles.
The elf Erol summoned begins to close its eyes and chant near a convenient tree, which begins to grow larger, while Erol continues to meld mana, taking the form of three more Rangers, all of which look a bit surprised to be summoned, then head off to trees of their own.
Dropped a forest, Ranger drops a Forest, then summoned three more Rangers.
Wynn hastily formed another plains and summoned a pair of wolves, ready to defend the castle.

OOC: <_< >_> Where's Kashani? D'Oh. I'll play for him.
Also, sorry everyone, weekend was pretty busy, and just now I'm starting to get to things... resolving this combat right now.
The soldiers and the archers went as instructed towards the rolling dragon-shaped artifice, the soldiers ready to give their lives to protect the city. The grizzled soldier steps up, and while he is rolled over by the monstrosity, his spear joined by two other arrows stop the engine, and it breaks apart.
Another one barrels toward the gate, blocked by the Vertigo Spawn of Tyier. As it does so, energy seems to channel from beyond the hills, and a little spout of flame ignites the spawn from the mouth of the machine. However, as it barrels through the spawn, it stops in its tracks, paralyzed by the tendrils. There is the sound of buzzing and whirring as the Engine tries to escape the spawn, but fails and is entangled. The tendrils start to shrink, so this cage will not last forever.
Kashani, noticing that all of the other dragon engines were moving unhindered, acted quickly, pulling a spool of mana from his satchel and summoning a swamp before him. With this and the previous swamp in front of him, he gathered mana and caused two Festering Goblins to rise from the bogs. "Go, and stand together to stop one of the engines from harming the citizens!"
Both of the goblins skulked towards an oncoming Engine. It also unleashed a little spout of flame, and rolled over the goblins. The rear wheels suddenly got stuck in the ground, and disintegrating clouds rose from the Goblins, and the Engine sank into the ground. Another Engine nearby was caught in this cloud, impeding its momentum.
At this point, 3 engines broke through the line, hindered a bit by the small river, causing large splashes as they rolled over the ground, charging at the gates, with the one caught in the cloud of the Zombies breathing fire as it rammed into the gate. It hit the gate, followed by the second and third, each of them backing away a bit to take another shot at this gate. As this happens, the 4 Engines in the distance come into visible range, bearing down on the city.
Off in the distance, the group notices 4 insect-like machines flying through the air at a rapid rate. The group can't discern anything else about them, except that there is a lot of weight on the fronts of them... it is surprisingly that they can even fly with such headpieces on them. They are closing fast behind the Dragon Engines.
Around this time, 4 more soldiers appear at the gate, descending from the tower. "We are here to help reinforce you!"
Effects before damage:
Dragon Engine blocked by Vertigo Spawn: Activated ability twice, +2/+0. It is a 3/3.
Dragon Engine blocked by Festering Goblins: Activate ability once, +1/+0. It is a 2/3, before one of the goblins sap it for -1/-1.
Dragon Engine sapped by Festering Goblin: Activate ability once, +1/+0, is a 2/3 when damage is dealt.
Results:
Dragon Engine 1 dies.
Dragon Engine 2 kills Vertigo Spawn, but is tapped down.
Dragon Engine 3 kills 2 Festering Goblins, is killed in the process.
Dragon Engine 4 is targetted by Festering Goblin, deals 2 damage to gate, but is now a 1/2 until end of turn.
Dragon Engine 5 is unharmed, and deals 1 point of damage to the gate.
Dragon Engine 6 is unharmed, and deals 1 point of damage to the gate.
End result: 4 damage to the gate.
You guys also have 2 Archers and 4 5 1/1 Soldiers with Defender this round. OOC: I can count Gate's Health: 16
Status of your opponent:
1 Dragon Engine tapped for next turn, in front of the river, was blocked by Tyier.
At end of turn, a Dragon Engine is a 1/2.
The other two Engines are unharmed, and are 1/3's.
4 new Dragon Engines join the fight, and are closing on the river, will be a part of the next attack.
All Dragon Engines are attacking the gate.
4 Ornithopters are on the approach... but there is something unusual about them that you can't discern from this distance. (yes, even those of you with elven eyes :p)
"I might still be awhile. Longer if you continue to pester me."
Erol and his elves continue to concentrate, and another five elves appear. Two are armed with bows, and the other three all kneel down and begin to pray.
Erol's masive summoning had Wynn a bit nervous. She had an ace up her sleeve, but with the mass of creatures the green mage had summoned, her using that spell would leave him defenseless. As much as it would help, she'd have to make sure it was a killing blow in order to protect the other mage. She laid another plains and summoned 2 spears of light that she launched at a pair of dragon engines, skewering them. she then called on a 3rd wolf, prowling with the other 2 and ready to take down anything that came. She was interuppted however, by the thoptors approaching.
"Those are the things that attacked me during the recon mission! be careful, everyone!" Wynn shouted hastily to the other mages.
plains, sunlance the 2 dragons that hit last turn, summon a third wolf (the 3 wolves can come together and triple block any engine and all live, thx to 1st strike )

I'll bet you wish you had a non-unglued/unhinged card that shared your first name.
Kashani gazes at the field, and the destruction that is eclipsing it. "I need to do as much as I can now..." He thinks to himself. He clasps his satchel's black mana thread and produces another thick and oily bog before him, and channels the mana of his two lands to make two more Festering Goblins. "Go, also, and defend the gate!"
The same putrid smell engulfs the engine of Kashani's choice, one of the new Dragon engines that barreled down the hills and racing towards the gate. The mages each responded to them in different ways.
The Festering Goblins held down one of the engines, consuming it with it's foul stench, even as they both are burned away as the engine emitted fire to burn whole the goblins.
The fiery wall acted as if it was a stopping wall... the Dragon Engine attempted to pass right through it, but it was held up, unable to progress, by the searing and stopping flames.
Three angry wolves pounced upon an advancing Engine just as it passed through the river. As if the wolves themselves were riding the splash of the water, but in reverse, they pounced on and used their sharp claws and fangs to tear apart the engine and all of its pieces, and were completely unharmed by the engine's momentum, causing it to crash onto the ground harmlessly.
The soldiers in the city, lead by the boy Samuel, screaming "FOR THE GENERAL'S SACRIFICE!!!" To which the other soldiers cheered and charged, swarmed an engine, with only one of the soldiers (not Samuel) getting in the way and crunched to the ground, as a small hail of arrows rang true to stop the Dragon Engine, leveling and stopping it. Two more soldiers rush out from the turrets, and join their comrades.
One of the original Dragon Engines finally began to emerge from the tendrils of the dead Vertigo Spawn, but was inactive for so long that it still didn't have any momentum.
Another one of the original engines, igniting its flame, was stopped by yet another Vertigo Spawn, which it engulfed in flame, and met the same fate as it's companion.
This left only two more Engines, which, after backing up, prepared to turn around and charge the gate again. Spears of light pierced them from their sides, and they fell over on the ground, and the loud sounds of crickling, hissing, and grinding brought them to a halt as they stopped moving, destroyed by the lances of the sun.
The mechanical insects off in the distance glide through the air, buzzing like giant bees. Their large headpieces seem to glow and charge, and the insects begin releasing small needle-like blades from their tips. After doing so, they circle in the air, and all convene onto one target: the giant Elf that they spotted in the trees, gathering large numbers of friend, with some kind of scanning device that was implemented into the headpiece (no other creatures have noticed Erol so far but these guys). They are careening from the sky, on the level, about to hurl their blades in the direction of the elf.
Then... the gargantuan figure approaches from the horizon.
Final Fantasy 6: The Decisive Battle
It is a massive construct, having 4 large metal legs, 2 in front, two in back, completely covered in some type of plating or armor. Connected to it is a torso almost rounded with armor. Near the tops of this construct are two massive arms, one of which has attached a gigantic metal plate the size of its front, to the other is attached a large... block, with a hole at the end of it, as it seems to careen inwards.
At the top of this thing is an orb-like dome, likely to be clear, but from this distance the contents are completely undecipherable. The construct is big. Very big. You can't imagine how unbelievably large this construct is. [/Hitchhiker's Guide] As it gets closer, you will likely glean more information... but it is coming in FAST.
Effects before damage:
The new dragon engine activates its ability once, giving it +1/+0, and making it a 2/3. This is the one blocked by two Festering Goblins.
The old dragon engine that is blocked by the vertigo spawn activates its ability 2 times, giving it +2/+0, and making it a 3/3.
Results:
Dragon Engine from the last fight is still held down by Vertigo Spawn's tendrils, is ready next combat. Dragon Engine 2 is skewered by Sunlance. Dies. Dragon Engine 3 is skewered by Sunlance. Dies. Dragon Engine 4 is held down by another Vertigo Spawn, and kills the spawn. It is now tapped down for another turn.
The first new Dragon Engine is impeded by the Wall of Flame.
The second new Dragon Engine is blocked by three angry and quick wolves. Dies.
The third new Dragon Engine is blocked by two Festering Goblins, and the results kill it.
The fourth new Dragon Engine is swarmed by soldiers, and kills one of them, with the support of the two archers in the towers. The engine dies though.
End result: 0 damage to the gate.
Remaining Dragon Engines: 3
You guys also have 2 Archers and 6 1/1 Soldiers with Defender this round. Gate's Health: 16
New Arrivals:
4 Ornithopters each equipped with Cranial Plating. All attacking Erol. The cranial plating, after the results of last match, gives 4 (ornits) + 4(plating) + 3(Dragon Engines) = Each Ornithopter is an 11/2.
Off in the distance... is the BIG machine. Not a card.
Erol motions, and the two archers he just summoned fire off a swarm of arrows at the Ornithopters targeting him. Each of the two Soldier Archers also loose arrows at them.
I block the two ornithopters with my pair of Archers. The other two Thopters get blocked by the two Soldier archers. If anyone sees a better use for said archers than me not dying, feel free to jump in and use them
"Nice work, Tyler!" Wynn said from behind. The red mage said he had a shatterstorm available to him and he didn't disappoint her. The spell seemed to destroy most of the machines, including the dragons and wasps. Still, there was that giant machine coming toward them, and she couldn't really get a good view of it. She formed another plains and stood ready, not yet committing to any spells yet...

Kashani stares at Brother Tyler, who clearly established himself as the leader of the group. The gigantic figure approached the river, and then stopped upon hearing this words.
A voice boomed from above. This voice seemed, not raspy, but filled with power, and almost mechanical.
"Courageous words, Brother of the Forge. I am here upon the will of my Lord, much as you are here defending your Forge. If it is death that you do not wish to accept, embrace my Lord Yawgmoth, and your lives will be spared, as you will be compleated, and brought closer to perfection. Resist, and die... isn't that what you wish to avoid? If you recognize my might, you will bow. I do not fear the strength of 5 puny mages, however, and will not hesitate to destroy you. Choose now: Join Yawgmoth, or die."
The soldier that the brother sent away did indeed do so, returning to House Hammerheim with the coin. As he does so, he shouts over his shoulder, "I will return as soon as I can, Brother of the Forge!" He is scared out of his mind.
OOC: I would say that is fine with the exception of the fact that none of your compatriots, with the exception of Wynn, have taken anything resembling a turn. Therefore, don't make the land play yet, you'll get it before things start to get nasty, don't worry
The menacing behemoth plants its tendrils further into the ground, taking another step forward.
"Don't be so foolish as to think you all will have a chance to gather mana while we idly talk. The time is not yours to spare.
My master will improve upon your body. Your natural limbs, mere fleshy appendages, will be replaced with superior mechanical ones. You will be compleated, filled with new power, superior to other beings of your kind. In exchange for this power, you will serve the master, and bring others to compleation. All other knowledge you would gain in time, should you choose to live for him."
Across the gigantic beast's right mechanical arm, a very large hammer emerged, wielded by a mechanical fist. "What do you say, brother of the forge? Mistress of light? Elf of vigor? Seeker of Knowledge? Deacon of Death? Quickly, I TIRE of this."
His tone was almost mocking in nature. It is now visible that 4 orbs have rotated their heads and fixated their eyes on each of the other mages other than Tyler. Perhaps that is how he knows the strengths of each?
Erol continues to completely ignore the behemoth, and focuses on summoning more creatures. All seven of his elven comrades aid him. Four large elephants and a rather annoyed looking lizard appear.
"It won't be long now, comrades. Just stall him a little bit longer." he whispers to the other mages.
Wynn was hesitant to do much of anything. The situation seemed too familiar to her, and she wasn't sure what options she had.
"Good grief, it's deja vu all over again..." she thought. Unlike last time, however, This was on her turf; she was defending, not attacking through lines of goblins. Mustering up all her courage, she spoke.
"Personally, I'm flattered, but there is much more that must be discussed. Perhaps we could talk a bit more civilly, see eye-to-eye on things? If we agree to manage a cease-fire, I'm sure the rest of us would be much more...open, to your proposition. Can we at least go into further detail before continuing to blow each other up?"
She would have then kept quiet, had a flood of memories not swarmed into her brain. The four blazing suns, the scalding metallic earth, the legendary struggles...she knew of this mage.
"Forgive me if I dont accept your proposal right yet, but I kind of like not being a machine. Then again, that's the life you've lived for so long, I'm not sure you remember before you became one. Am I right, Memnarch?"
I'm guessing it's him, mainly because of the card art matches the machine and the "make everything metal" ideology fits. I'm pretty sure it's him.
Top 16 - 2012 Indiana State Championships Currently Playing: GBStandard - Golgari Safari MidrangeBG RBWModern - Mardu PyromancerWBR RLegacy - Good Old Fashioned BurnR
"Do you think we're as weak minded as you are? Maybe you could recruit from common rabble as you once were, but we are mages. We have our own power and don't need to worship some insane surgeon for a taste of it." Tyier says loudly. He spreads the water further out behind him.
OOC: Good guess, Wynn, and although the machine here is similar in structure to Memnarch, it isn't quite the same. The body isn't quite insect-like. The four legs are a bit wider, but still relatively similar. The head piece, while shaped like a dome, is attached more to the armored body. Also, the arms are much bigger than those of Memnarch, as the right armpiece is the size of a cannon, and is currently holding a rather large hammer at the end of it. I missed some of this stuff in the description. However, it's AMAZING how much this in-my-head behemoth is strikingly similar to Memnarch. Good catch It makes perfect sense for your character to think this too, as it may as well have been Memnarch with modifications Also doesn't QUITE fit the man that you saw earlier, before battle, does it? That's not to say that your opponent is not a Master of artifice.
This behemoth actually rears back for a second. The orb spinning around its head that is looking at each mage intensifies, and then stops. Wynn, Erol, Tyier, and Kashani feel their minds being probed for a second, and then stop. He gazes at one random spell for each with it from each of the named mage's satchels.
The voice continues. "Cease fire is only possible when all hostilities from your end are removed. Two of you notably defy me. The minions of those two shall be purified with fire."
The construct raises its right arm. It glows red momentarily, and two bursts erupt from its mechanical tips. The mana is channeled from an internal part of this beast. The mages know that, when these bursts hit the ground, they will erupt in Pyroclasms, as the flames are already beginning to spread in the air, billowing towards the ground. Both bursts seemed aimed at the woods towards Erol (This is giving you all the opportunity to respond to the flames, and this is not the end of this beast's turn regardless)
With these bursts fired, the giant looks at Wynn. Up in the dome, it seems that there is a man at the controls in its clear headpiece.
"I am not Memnarch, Wynn Aeros. I also suggest to your companions that they stand down if you truly wish for a cease fire. They have one chance to do so before I begin to crush their miserable existances into oblivion."
Wynn frowned. She was so close...but if it wasn't him, she had no reason to pick a fight with the mage.
"Very well, I'll also stand down. I also wish to apoligize for the mistaken identity. Our comrades should follow us shortly, but I want it clear; hostilities must end on BOTH sides. I'm sure that if you try anything, all five of us will be swift to retaliate. Fair enough?" She released her creatures back into the aether, but kept her connections to the land. Not adding anything, just keeping at ready should it come to violence, hopefully it wouldn't...

Erol and his elves continue to concentrate, and another five elves appear. Two are armed with bows, and the other three all kneel down and begin to pray.
"Those are the things that attacked me during the recon mission! be careful, everyone!" Wynn shouted hastily to the other mages.

Tyier added more mana to his arsenal and summoned a new Vertigo Spawn. "My specialty is the spacial removal of creatures from existence." He said to the red mage. "Are we going to track down the leader now?"
Not a card.

"It won't be long now, comrades. Just stall him a little bit longer." he whispers to the other mages.
