The southern arc of the great circular wall that encircles Epicus - a feat of construction twenty feet high, and ten feet thick - hosts the gate tower, which rises ten feet above the wall. Extended from the tower is thick barrier of stonework, behind which the city guards keep watch.
The doors of Epicus lay below, two massive, fifteen foot porticullus of heavy timbers and wrought iron. Within the left is a smaller door, large enough to accomidate a man on horseback. During the day, the great doors are open, with four guards at ground level and six above. During night, the doors are closed, although the smaller door remains open through the night, watched by a pair of soldiers. Great beams rest near the door; in emergency times, they can be used to bar the doors shut.

Hero (n.) <heer-oh> - someone who gets involved in a lot of insane events and that turn out well because or despite of them.
**Yethro A'vant came within sight of the front wall, heading towards the Barracks, a ring carrying the insignia of the constable on his good index finger.**
Guard- "The constable is enforcing the Lord's order to keep the city locked down tight. Unless he wants to go against his own orders, Mullory will remain on duty until nightfall."

Yethro - "I have been sent to call for Mullory by the constable!"
Guard- "On who's authority? Bourbon, or whiskey?"
Yethro - "Look, you don't have to be that way. It's displeasing. I have the signet of Constable Harek here."
**The man held out his hand again, putting the ring in clear sight.**
The guard rudely about-faced and marched into the barracks. A moment later, he returned with another guard, no doubt Mullory, at his side.
Mullory- "Cap'n here says you have a message from the Constable f' me. What is it?"
Guard- "What is it now?"
Yethro - "Mullory."
Yethro - "Very well, then!"
