Gold is the central currency of the Eastern World, in which the city-states of Epicus and Elexia are located. As it is the basis of the economy, there are many grand ways in which heroes and villains may acquire such wealth.
Bounties
Bounties occur when a criminal eludes capture. While how a bounty is taken varies widely, there are three main types; Questform, Investigation, and Incidental. It is common practice to return bounties alive; usually, you will not recieve pay if they are dead.
Bounties are categories by level (out-of-character), from 1 to 5. Criminals who are level 1 through 3 can be safely pursued by only one person. Level 4 bounties should be pursued by at least two persons, and level 5 bounties by at least three.
Questform - Questform bounties are ones in which the criminal's location is known or suspected. The moderator who runs the bounty will create a new thread, or use a pre-existing thread, in which the bounty will occur. Investigation - Investigation bounties are ones in which the whereabouts of the criminal are unknown. All that remains a few key clues that a character must use to backtrack the criminal, eventually cornering them. Since investigation bounties are more difficult, they usually pay more. Incidental - Incidental bounties are not actually listed in the bounty notices; they are spur of the moment events in which a character happens to witness a crime being comitted and may intervene how they choose.
Multiple persons or groups may pursue Investigation bounties simultaneously.
Jobs
Another way to earn gold in the Epic World is to be employed. There are five basic types of jobs;
1. Constablery - Deputies, constables, or spies. These jobs are in-city law enforcement.
2. Soldiers - Mercenaries, basically. These are those hired by any group to any end, as long as it involves fighting.
3. Guards - A more select form of hired muscle, guards are hire to protect an individual, a group, or an establishment.
4. Assistants - Gophers or confidents hired by those who need them or want them. What is done by an assistant can vary greatly.
5. Skill-Specific - These jobs are special jobs that can only be filled by individuals with specific skills. Usually, they are the profitable, rare, and temporary.
A list of what jobs are avaliable can usually be found in papers for the cities. Some jobs, however, may be incidental opportunities.
Most jobs are non-stop action, requiring you to constantly be at the site of your job if you want to get pay. You may request time off, but you will probably not be paid during this.
Please do not go asking for jobs if they are none listed avaliable.
Quests
Quests are great adventures undertaken by a group of individuals, to various ends. Anyone may run a quest in Epic World, be they a mod or not, with their own character or not. If you are not a mod, you must PM one of the two mods a brief summary of your quest to get it approved. The same holds for any loot or payment that will be recieved for the quest.
Non-mod quests should avoid conflicting with pre-established facts or enacting world changing events (like wars, plagues, awakening super demons). If your quest does include events that do make a splash, we can work something out.
Quests are generall advertised in same way, either notices on bar doors or in the local papers. Other quests may have more unusual entries, such as being in the right place at the right time.
Tasks
Tasks are like small-scale quests. They have objectives, rewards, and stories behind them, but at a lesser scale. Where quests may range in the hundreds of posts, tasks are usually less than 100. Like quests, anyone can run a task through their own character, they just need to get it approved, as well as any rewards.
Theft and other crimes
Although both the cities of Epicus and Elexia have harsh laws against theft, it is still an option for characters. A theft is handled by the moderator of the city in which the theft occurs. Simply post your attempt at the theft, and the moderator will post the outcome. Depending on the type of theft in which you are engaging, there will be some back and forth posting.
The outcome of theft is determined by a bit of luck, how you approach the theft, and how skilled your character is. Members of the Theives guild have a higher chance of success at theft.
Other crimes, such as murder, are approached in the same way.
If your character is caught or witnessed in a crime, you will have to follow through with the reprecussions of the actions. Being caught red-handed for murder, for example, will result in your character being put to death. Being caught red-handed for theft will result in range of punishment, depending on the severity of the theft. If you escape, there may be a bounty placed on your head.
